WoW Forever Paladin Mount Guide

Updated 06 Nov 2026 | Author: Dmitro | ~19 min

Paladins in WoW Forever never buy a horse. The Summon Warhorse spell at level 40 comes from a one-step class quest with no gold fee, and the epic Summon Charger at level 60 is the reward for one of the longest class chains in the game: an exorcism in Eastern Plaguelands, a barding forged in Stormwind, a spirit horse in Dire Maul and a death knight in Scholomance. Human and Dwarf Paladins run the Classic chain unchanged, while the new Forsaken Paladins get their own Warhorse and a Summon Forsaken Charger whose quest steps are not confirmed yet. Below you will find how riding works for Paladins in Forever, every quest of the Charger chain in order with its NPCs and materials, the shopping list that saves you a second trip, tips for the Dire Maul and Scholomance steps, and what is still unconfirmed now that the game is live.

WoW Forever Paladin Mounts at a Glance

WoW Forever Paladin Charger epic mount model

Paladins have two class mounts, one per riding tier, and each faction gets its own look. The table sums up where each one comes from as of the launch build, Patch 1.60.1.

Mount Level Races How to Get It Cost
Summon Warhorse 40 Human, Dwarf The Tome of Nobility from Duthorian Rall in Stormwind City No quest fee
Summon Warhorse (Forsaken) 40 Undead Forsaken Paladin class quest, giver not confirmed yet Not announced yet
Summon Charger 60 Human, Dwarf 12-quest chain from Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker, ending in Scholomance 350 gold in fees plus materials
Summon Forsaken Charger 60 Undead Separate Forsaken Paladin chain, steps not confirmed yet Not announced yet

Both Warhorses are 60% ground mounts and both Chargers are 100% epic mounts. The Forsaken versions are skeletal horses in gold barding, and the Forsaken Charger adds spiked plate and a horned skull helm, so a Forsaken Paladin on a mount is easy to spot from across a field.

How Riding Works for Paladins in WoW Forever

Forever reworked riding into a single Riding skill. For every other class, Apprentice Riding at level 40 costs 100 gold and already includes the first mount, extra colors cost 20 gold each, and Journeyman Riding at level 60 costs 1,000 gold before you pay 200 gold for an epic mount. Being Honored with your home faction takes 10% off both the skill and the mount, and the Bartering Legacy talent can take up to another 10% off mounts, but not off the skill.

Paladins and Warlocks skip that shop for the mount itself, because their class quests teach a mount spell. In Classic, those spells also taught the matching riding skill. Forever has not confirmed that: the game data shows no riding effect on Summon Warhorse, and the beta stopped at level 30, so nobody could test it before launch. Keep 100 gold ready at level 40 in case the trainer still asks for Apprentice Riding.

The answer matters even more at 60. If the Charger chain still teaches riding, it costs 350 gold in quest fees plus materials, against 1,200 gold for Journeyman Riding and an epic mount. If you still need Journeyman Riding, add 1,000 gold, and the chain costs more than the vendor route. Most of the materials drop from dungeons you run anyway at level 60, and the real trade-off is time: expect several evenings and at least two dungeon groups. Our WoW Forever mount cost and riding skill guide tracks the trainer prices and discounts.

For every mount you can buy or earn in Forever, including the vendor horses and the rare drops, check our WoW Forever mounts guide.

Level 40 Warhorse: The Tome of Nobility

The level 40 mount is the shortest class quest a Paladin will ever see. As soon as you hit 40, go to Duthorian Rall in the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind City (around 50.6, 47.5). In Ironforge, Tiza Battleforge and Brandur Ironhammer give a version of the same quest that only sends you to him. Accept The Tome of Nobility, speak to him again, and you learn Summon Warhorse on the spot.

The quest text hints at what comes next: "for now I give you this freely, but later, when time permits, this will be a much greater challenge to all paladins who choose to undertake my quest." That later challenge is the Charger at 60. The Warhorse costs 100 mana, has a 3-second cast and works outdoors only, out of combat.

Forsaken Paladins: the Level 40 Warhorse at Bandarion Keep

Forsaken Paladins have their own Summon Warhorse, a separate spell with the same name and the undead horse model. Most Forsaken Paladin class quests run from Bandarion Keep in the Whispering Wood, the new area on the western edge of Tirisfal Glades, where Danitha Morr (22.0, 44.6) hands out the earlier class quests. Bandarion Keep is the likely start for the level 40 mount quest too. Datamined quest lists call it A Trusty Steed, but it has no public database page yet, so its giver, steps and any cost are not confirmed.

The Forsaken Paladin story at Bandarion Keep starts much earlier, with the level 20 weapon. Our WoW Forever Paladin weapon quest guide walks through that chain for both factions.

The Level 60 Charger Quest Chain at a Glance

The Charger chain is 12 quests long, but it is not one straight line. After the first talk with Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker, it splits into two branches that you can run in any order: an exorcism branch that sends you to Ironforge and Eastern Plaguelands, and a barding branch that needs a pile of materials and a smith in Stormwind. Grayson only moves you on once both branches are done. The finale then takes you to Southshore, Dire Maul and Scholomance.

All Alliance quests below are level 60, Human and Dwarf only, and marked unchanged from Classic in the Forever game data.

Step Quest Where What You Do
1 Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker Stormwind City Talk to Duthorian Rall, then Lord Grayson
2a Emphasis on Sacrifice Ironforge Pay High Priest Rohan 150 gold for the censer
2b To Show Due Judgment Ironforge to Stormwind City Bring the censer back to Grayson
2c Exorcising Terrordale Eastern Plaguelands Kill 25 Terrordale Spirits
3a The Work of Grimand Elmore Stormwind City Speak with Grimand Elmore in the Dwarven District
3b Collection of Goods Stormwind City Hand in the barding materials and 150 gold
3c Grimand's Finest Work Stormwind City Take the Arcanite Barding to Grayson
4a Ancient Equine Spirit Stormwind City to Dire Maul Free the spirit horse from Tendris Warpwood
4b Manna-Enriched Horse Feed Hillsbrad Foothills Buy the feed in Southshore for 50 gold and 20 biscuits
4c Blessed Arcanite Barding Dire Maul to Stormwind City Bring the blessed barding back to Grayson
5 The Divination Scryer Stormwind City Hand in two diamonds for the scryer
6 Judgment and Redemption Scholomance Judge four spirit waves, kill Death Knight Darkreaver, redeem the Charger

What to Prepare Before You Start the Charger Quest

Most of the chain is travel and talking, so the slow part is collecting materials. Buying or farming everything before you talk to Grayson turns the chain into two or three evenings instead of a week of back-and-forth. Check your bank first: Stratholme Holy Water and Runecloth pile up during normal level 60 play.

Material Amount Quest Where to Get It
Runecloth 40 Collection of Goods Humanoids level 50-60, Auction House
Arcanite Bar 6 Collection of Goods Alchemists transmute Arcane Crystal and Thorium Bar on a cooldown, Auction House
Arthas' Tears 10 Collection of Goods Herbalism in the Plaguelands and Felwood, Auction House
Stratholme Holy Water 5 Collection of Goods Supply crates on both sides of Stratholme
Enriched Manna Biscuit 20 Manna-Enriched Horse Feed Argent Dawn quartermasters, about 63 silver per purchase
Azerothian Diamond 1 The Divination Scryer Rich Thorium Veins, Auction House
Pristine Black Diamond 1 The Divination Scryer World drop from level 55-60 mobs, Auction House
Gold 350 Three quests 150 for the censer, 150 for Grimand Elmore's fee, 50 for the horse feed

The biscuits come from three Argent Dawn quartermasters: Quartermaster Miranda Breechlock at Light's Hope Chapel in Eastern Plaguelands, Argent Quartermaster Lightspark at Chillwind Camp in Western Plaguelands and Argent Quartermaster Hasana at the Bulwark in Tirisfal Glades. They sell them only from Friendly with the Argent Dawn, which most players reach naturally while questing and running Stratholme and Scholomance. Buy them during the Terrordale step, since you are in the Plaguelands anyway.

Stratholme Holy Water binds when picked up, so it cannot be bought. Loot every supply crate on your Stratholme runs and you will have five long before you need them. The dungeon route and the crates are covered in our WoW Forever Stratholme guide.

Prices for Arcanite and diamonds will take a while to settle on live servers, so plan on the 350 gold of fees and treat everything else as farmable. Our WoW Forever gold making guide lists the fastest ways to raise it.

Step 1: Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker in Stormwind

At level 60, Duthorian Rall gives you Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker. Walk across the Cathedral of Light to Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker (around 48.5, 50.0). He explains what a Charger takes and offers both branches at once: Emphasis on Sacrifice and The Work of Grimand Elmore. Take both.

Forever uses a new map of Stormwind, so older Classic guides give different coordinates for the same spots. The numbers in this guide are for the Forever map. Both Grayson and Duthorian Rall stand inside the Cathedral of Light in the Cathedral District.

Step 2: Exorcising Terrordale in Eastern Plaguelands

The exorcism branch is three quests and one outdoor kill task. It is the only part of the chain you can do fully solo.

  1. Travel to the Mystic Ward in Ironforge and pay High Priest Rohan 150 gold for Emphasis on Sacrifice. You receive Rohan's Exorcism Censer.
  2. Rohan starts To Show Due Judgment: bring the censer back to Lord Grayson in Stormwind.
  3. Grayson gives you Exorcising Terrordale: go to Terrordale in the northwest of Eastern Plaguelands and kill 25 Terrordale Spirits.

The spirits do not wander around. Terrordale has four or five glowing green circles on the ground, the largest group southeast of the ruined town near the exit of the Terrorweb Tunnel (around 21.6, 34.8). Clear the undead and plaguehounds around a circle, stand in it and use the censer: one to three spirits spawn each time. Rotate between circles while they reset. A solo Paladin finishes this in about 30 minutes, and a second Paladin on the same step halves it.

The area is also a good herb route. Plaguebloom and Dreamfoil grow around Terrordale, and Arthas' Tears grow across the Plaguelands, so a Herbalist can cover part of the barding list while exorcising.

Step 3: Arcanite Barding From Grimand Elmore

The barding branch is short once you have the materials from the table above.

  1. The Work of Grimand Elmore: find Grimand Elmore in the Dwarven District of Stormwind (around 59.6, 34.0). He sometimes walks to the forge in the middle of the district and back, so give him a moment if the spot is empty.
  2. Collection of Goods: hand in 40 Runecloth, 6 Arcanite Bars, 10 Arthas' Tears, 5 Stratholme Holy Water and 150 gold. In his words: "runecloth for the lining, arcanite bars for the plating, Arthas' Tears for the spiritual attunement, and Stratholme holy water for the spiritual imbuement. Actually, you need five things... gold for my fee."
  3. Grimand's Finest Work: Grimand forges the barding in front of you. Take the Arcanite Barding back to Lord Grayson.

Grayson keeps the barding when you turn this in. It has not vanished: he hands it back with the next quest, but only after Exorcising Terrordale is also complete. If you finish the barding first, the chain looks stuck until the 25 spirits are done.

Lost the barding or the quest? Abandon the step and pick it up again from Lord Grayson. He gives you a fresh copy, so you never pay for a second barding.

Step 4: Ancient Equine Spirit in Dire Maul

With both branches done, Grayson returns the barding and sends you after Ancient Equine Spirit: a horse spirit trapped by a corrupt treant in Dire Maul. Freeing it is not enough, the quest says, you also have to soothe it, so the horse feed comes first.

Manna-Enriched Horse Feed in Southshore

Fly to Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills and talk to Merideth Carlson, the stable master (around 52.0, 55.6). Manna-Enriched Horse Feed costs 20 Enriched Manna Biscuits and 50 gold and gives you the Manna-Enriched Horse Feed. If you lose the feed later, she gives you more for free.

Freeing the Spirit From Tendris Warpwood

The spirit is held by Tendris Warpwood, the treant boss at the far end of the big courtyard in Dire Maul West in Feralas. You need a group for him: his Trample knocks down everyone in melee range, and he calls in the big treants from the courtyard. Once he dies, the Ancient Equine Spirit appears as a ghost horse and starts walking. Catch it, feed it, and it blesses your barding: the quest completes and Blessed Arcanite Barding starts automatically, with the Blessed Arcanite Barding back in your bags.

Feralas map with the Dire Maul entrance for the Ancient Equine Spirit quest

Three things make this step smoother:

  • Clear the Ironbark Protectors in the courtyard first. In Classic, Tendris calls every living Protector to him when the fight starts, so sneaking past them can wipe the group. The smaller treants can stay.
  • The door to Dire Maul West needs a Crescent Key. Without one, ask a Rogue to pick it, or bring a player who has the key.
  • Several Paladins on the same step can share one kill: the spirit appears for everyone in the group.

Hand the blessed barding to Lord Grayson. The full Dire Maul layout, including the key and the route through the west wing, is in our WoW Forever Dire Maul guide.

Step 5: The Divination Scryer

Grayson's next quest, The Divination Scryer, needs one Azerothian Diamond and one Pristine Black Diamond. The censer from Terrordale is the catalyst, and the diamonds finish it into the Divination Scryer, the item that starts the final fight. Accept Judgment and Redemption right away: it hands you Lord Grayson's Satchel, which holds the finished scryer and your Blessed Arcanite Barding. Right-click the satchel to open it.

Step 6: Judgment and Redemption in Scholomance

The finale takes place in the Great Ossuary of Scholomance, on Caer Darrow in Western Plaguelands. This is the room of Rattlegore. Bring a full group and clear the whole room first, including Rattlegore himself. Pull the casters out of line of sight into a side room instead of fighting them in the open.

Western Plaguelands map with Scholomance on Caer Darrow for the Judgment and Redemption quest

Once the room is clear, use the Divination Scryer in the middle of the room, then step back to your group. Four waves of spirits spawn one after another, and the quest text warns: "Use your judgments wisely during this trial - they will prove more potent than you realize." Each spirit type is weak to one specific Judgement. The right seal stuns the spirit and deals heavy damage, the wrong one does next to nothing.

In Classic, the spirits and seals pair up like this, and each wave ends with a stronger boss of the same type:

Forever reworked Paladin seals and talents, so treat this order as a starting point rather than a confirmed Forever strategy. Watch the combat text: when the right Judgement lands, a message says it "washes over" the spirit. With two or more Paladins in the group, split the seals so a correct Judgement is always off cooldown. The third wave, the Corrupted Spirits, applies a disease that cuts maximum health, so keep Cleanse or Purify ready.

Classic runs add a few lessons worth planning around, though none of them is tested on live Forever servers yet:

  • Train the top rank of every seal before you go. Only the highest rank of a Judgement stuns the spirits.
  • Do not spam Judgement. Frequent judgements bring out each wave's boss sooner and fill the room with extra spirits, so save them until few spirits are left.
  • Drink whenever you can. The third wave can arrive right after the second wave's boss dies.
  • Fight near the pile of bones closest to the door. You can break line of sight on the Shadowed Spirits there and clump them up.
  • The door to the whelp room locks during the event, so you cannot bring in extra players once it starts.

After the fourth wave, Death Knight Darkreaver appears. Dispel his mind control from any player right away, then kill him and loot Charger's Lost Soul, and use it to judge the soul redeemed: it turns into Charger's Redeemed Soul. Give the redeemed soul and the Blessed Arcanite Barding to Darkreaver's Fallen Charger, and you learn Summon Charger.

You get one attempt per scryer. The scryer is used up, so dying mid-event means a trip back to Stormwind to restart the quest, and a full wipe can lock you out of the Ossuary until the next run. Abandoning Judgment and Redemption is safe: Grayson hands you a satchel with a new barding and a new scryer. For the rest of the dungeon, use our WoW Forever Scholomance guide.

Forsaken Paladins: the Level 60 Forsaken Charger

The Forsaken Charger exists in the game data as its own spell, Summon Forsaken Charger, with a level 60 requirement and the skeletal barded horse model. Blizzard showed both Forsaken mounts at BlizzCon and described the Forsaken Paladin quests as a story of retribution rather than redemption, which fits a class the Forsaken themselves do not trust. Datamined records reference a final quest for it, but its name, giver and steps are not confirmed yet.

WoW Forever Forsaken Charger mount model for Undead Paladins

Do not run the Alliance route on an Undead Paladin: Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker is in Stormwind and his quests are Alliance only. Until the chain is confirmed, the safest preparation is the same shopping list as above. Both Charger chains are expected to be long level 60 quests, and Runecloth, Arcanite and dungeon drops will be useful either way.

If you would rather skip the Dire Maul and Scholomance groups, our WoW Forever Charger service covers both the Alliance and the Forsaken chain.

Tips for the Paladin Mount Quests

These tips save the most time and gold over the whole chain.

  • Accept both of Grayson's branches on the first visit. Do Terrordale and the Ironforge trip while the barding materials pile up, then turn everything in at once.
  • Finish Exorcising Terrordale before you expect the barding back. Grayson keeps the Arcanite Barding until both branches are done.
  • Buy the 20 Enriched Manna Biscuits while you are in Eastern Plaguelands for Terrordale. Coming back for them later is the most common wasted flight.
  • Loot every supply crate in Stratholme from the moment you reach 58. Stratholme Holy Water cannot be traded.
  • Group up with other Paladins on the same step. Terrordale spirits, the Tendris kill and the Scholomance event all go faster with more Paladins, and every extra Paladin brings another Judgement.
  • For Scholomance, bring Paladins or Priests who can dispel disease, and pull the Ossuary casters around a corner.
  • Keep Divine Shield and Lay on Hands for the spirit waves. You only get one attempt per scryer.
  • Never pay twice. If an item from the chain disappears, abandon the step and take it again from Lord Grayson.

What We Don't Know Yet About Paladin Mounts in Forever

A few details still need confirmation on live servers. We will update this guide as soon as they are confirmed.

  • Whether the class mount quests also teach Apprentice and Journeyman Riding, or you still pay the trainer 100 and 1,000 gold.
  • The Forsaken Paladin level 40 and level 60 mount quests: givers, steps and materials.
  • Whether the reworked Paladin seals change which Judgement works on each spirit in Scholomance.
  • Live prices for Arcanite Bars and diamonds once the economy settles.

WoW Forever Paladin Mount FAQ

These are the questions players ask most about Paladin mounts in WoW Forever.

Do Paladins get a free mount in WoW Forever?

The Warhorse has no quest fee. At level 40, The Tome of Nobility from Duthorian Rall in Stormwind teaches Summon Warhorse. Whether it also replaces the 100 gold Apprentice Riding purchase is not confirmed in Forever yet, so keep the gold ready. Forsaken Paladins get their own Warhorse from a class quest, but its giver and any cost are not confirmed.

How much does the Paladin Charger cost in WoW Forever?

The quests charge 350 gold in total: 150 for the exorcism censer, 150 for Grimand Elmore's fee and 50 for the horse feed. On top of that you need 40 Runecloth, 6 Arcanite Bars, 10 Arthas' Tears, 5 Stratholme Holy Water, 20 Enriched Manna Biscuits, an Azerothian Diamond and a Pristine Black Diamond. Whether you also need the 1,000 gold Journeyman Riding is not confirmed in Forever yet.

Is the Charger quest the same as in Classic?

For Human and Dwarf Paladins, yes. All 12 quests from Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker are marked unchanged in the Forever data. Only the Judgement order in Scholomance may play differently because Forever reworked Paladin seals.

Can Undead Paladins get the Charger?

Undead Paladins get their own Forsaken Charger with a skeletal horse model. Its quest chain is separate, and its steps are not confirmed yet, and the Alliance chain in Stormwind is not available to them.

Can you solo the Paladin Charger quest?

Only part of it. The Ironforge and Stormwind steps and the 25 Terrordale Spirits are soloable. Tendris Warpwood in Dire Maul West and the Great Ossuary event in Scholomance need a group.

What happens if I fail the Scholomance event?

The Divination Scryer is used up. Abandon Judgment and Redemption and take it again from Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker: he gives you a satchel with a new scryer and a new Blessed Arcanite Barding, so you do not pay for the materials again.

Why did my Arcanite Barding disappear?

Lord Grayson keeps it when you turn in Grimand's Finest Work. He returns it with Ancient Equine Spirit once Exorcising Terrordale is also done.
