Library Books in WoW Forever are small quest items hidden all over Azeroth. Pick one up, carry it to your faction librarian, and it counts toward the Friend of the Library rewards: a neck at 10 books, a ring at 20 and a choice of a ranged slot, shield or off-hand at 25. Every class can collect them. Mages get a bonus on top: the first book they turn in teaches Study.
About 40 different books are known so far, spread across both continents and every level range. Many sit in towns and open camps you pass while leveling, while others hide in caves, ogre towers and high-level zones. Below you will find the rewards and how the count works, both librarians, a full location table sorted by level, and step-by-step directions with screenshots for every book, including the ones that moved in WoW Forever.
Each book you return is its own small quest that gives some experience and silver. The real payoff comes from three milestone quests: Friend of the Library and two quests called Greater Friend of the Library. The count is cumulative, so 25 different books in total unlock all three. You do not need 10 + 20 + 25.
The second and third quests also have a level requirement. The table shows what each milestone needs and the rewards you pick from.
| Books | Required Level | Quest | Choose One Reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | 1 | Friend of the Library | Scholarly Pendant or Erudite's Amulet |
| 20 | 20 | Greater Friend of the Library | Field Researcher's Loop or Philanthropist's Ring |
| 25 | 30 | Greater Friend of the Library | Truthseeker's Bow, Crest of Elucidation or Researcher's Night Light |
The reward stats have been changed several times during the beta. Truthseeker's Bow now needs level 40 to equip, even though the quest itself opens at 30.
When a Mage turns in the first book, they learn Study as part of the new Research skill. It works together with Decipher Scrolls, which Mages learn from their trainer at level 6. Use Study while standing in a library: it consumes a Light Feather and gives a Bundle of Scrolls with Mage scrolls inside.
Beta reports disagree on the cooldown: some players see one hour, others one day. Research can also disappear from the spellbook after a relog on the current beta build.
Mage library books are a separate thing from the Battle Mage weapon. Our WoW Forever Coldflame Saber guide explains how that quest works.
Books go to the librarian of your faction. Both stand next to their capital's Mage services, so Mages can combine the trip with a portal.
| Faction | Location | Coordinates | Librarian |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Stormwind City, Mage Tower | /way 49.0 86.4 | Garion Wendell |
| Horde | Undercity, The Magic Quarter | /way 74.0 32.4 | Owen Thadd |
The turn-in quest only appears while the book is in your bags, so you can collect several and hand them in on one visit. Each book counts once: if the same title has two spawn points, looting both does not give two books.
Do not delete a book from your bags. On the current beta you cannot loot it again.
Most books can be returned by either faction. Six are locked: three Alliance Only books in Alliance towns and three Horde Only books in Horde areas. That still leaves 34 books for each side, well above the 25 you need.
The table is sorted by the level of the zone, so you can grab the low-level books while leveling and come back for the rest later. Coordinates are for the book itself; detailed directions follow in the continent sections.
A few databases also list Nar'thalas Almanac, Vol. 74 in The Barrens, Loch Modan and Stonetalon Mountains, and Stonewrought Design in Burning Steppes. Those coordinates match other scroll spots or the Blackrock Mountain entrance exactly, so they are not separate books. Bewitchments and Glamours has one more spawn on Zephras Isle, covered in the Westfall entry below.
The Eastern Kingdoms hold 26 of the books. They are listed by zone in alphabetical order. Faction-locked books are marked in the location line; everything else can be returned to either librarian.

These tips come from players who have already finished the collection on the beta. Most of them save a death run or a long trip back.
Most of the 40+ books need a character that can survive in high-level zones. If you would rather skip that part of the climb, WoW Forever leveling help gets your character there faster.
The same zones hide other collectibles. Our WoW Forever Cozy Sleeping Bag guide walks through another cross-continent quest chain you can do on the same route.
The questions below cover what players ask most about the collection: how many books you need, where to return them, faction limits and the Mage bonus.
You need 25 different books. The count is cumulative: 10 unlock Friend of the Library, 20 unlock the first Greater Friend of the Library and 25 unlock the second one.
The 10-book quest has no level requirement. The 20-book quest needs level 20 and the 25-book quest needs level 30. Truthseeker's Bow from the last quest now needs level 40 to equip.
Alliance players return books to Garion Wendell inside the Stormwind Mage Tower at /way 49.0 86.4.
Horde players return books to Owen Thadd in the Undercity Magic Quarter at /way 74.0 32.4.
No. Three books are Alliance Only and three are Horde Only. Each faction still has 34 books available, so both can reach 25.
No. Rumi of Gnomeregan in Loch Modan and Westfall, or Bewitchments and Glamours in Westfall and on Zephras Isle, count as one book each.
The first book a Mage turns in teaches Study. In a library, Study uses a Light Feather and gives a Bundle of Scrolls with Mage scrolls inside.
On the current beta you cannot loot the same book again, so keep every book in your bags until you hand it in.
