The Warrior in WoW Forever is still the master of melee, but Blizzard fixed its oldest frustration: Rage. Armor and shields no longer reduce the Rage you gain from taking damage, Rage from dealing damage is normalized to weapon speed, and every Warrior learns Tactical Mastery at level 14 to keep 10 Rage when swapping Stances. Victory Rush at level 20 adds a free heal after every kill, which makes solo leveling far less punishing.
The specs got their own new tools as well. Arms combines every weapon specialization into Weaponmaster and adds Spearing Strike, Fury gets Raging Blows for a two-weapon Whirlwind, and Protection can Charge in Defensive Stance with Vanguard. What has not changed is that Warriors still have few ways to recover from heavy damage on their own.
This guide sums up every Warrior change, lists the abilities you learn at each level, explains Stances and Shouts, compares Arms, Fury and Protection and helps you pick a race before the November 4 launch.
Blizzard's Warrior work focused on making Rage reliable, moving key utility into the baseline kit and giving each spec a sharper role. The changes fall into three groups: Rage, new baseline abilities, and retuned spells.
In original Classic, better armor meant less Rage from taking hits, and a Power Word: Shield on a tank could starve it of Rage. Forever fixes both:
The result is steadier Rage for tanks in good gear and fewer dry spells for damage dealers. Players in the beta reported some Rage generation bugs, and Blizzard said it is working on them.
Several abilities that used to cost talent points, or did not exist, now come with the class:
| Ability | Level | What Changed |
|---|---|---|
| Tactical Mastery | 14 | New baseline: keep 10 Rage when changing Stances; Improved Tactical Mastery raises it to 25 |
| Victory Rush | 20 | New: after a kill, an instant attack that heals you for 10% of your maximum health |
| Battle Shout | 1 | Includes the old Improved Battle Shout bonus and longer duration, and now reaches the whole raid |
| Demoralizing Shout | 14 | Includes the old Improved Demoralizing Shout bonus |
| Shield Block and Taunt | 16 and 10 | Include the old Improved Shield Block and Improved Taunt talents |
Many familiar abilities were retuned:
The October 15 beta build made Battle Shout raid-wide, so one Warrior now buffs the whole raid, and removed spell pushback from Slam. Overpower can again be used against much lower level enemies, Improved Berserker Rage now correctly removes snares, and the racials of several Warrior races were reworked.
We compare every talent in all three trees with its Classic version in our WoW Forever Warrior talents guide.
A Warrior learns new abilities from the class trainer every two levels, while two Stances come from class quests: Defensive Stance at 10 and Berserker Stance at 30. Warriors start in mail and can wear plate from level 40, and talent points start at level 10, one per level, for 51 points at 60. Dual Specialization opens at level 40.
The table lists the level at which you learn the first rank of each ability. Heroic Strike, Rend, Execute and most other attacks get new ranks every few levels, so check the trainer often.
| Level | New Abilities |
|---|---|
| 1 | Battle Stance, Heroic Strike, Battle Shout |
| 4 | Charge, Rend |
| 6 | Thunder Clap |
| 8 | Hamstring |
| 10 | Defensive Stance (class quest), Taunt, Sunder Armor, Bloodrage |
| 12 | Overpower, Shield Bash |
| 14 | Tactical Mastery, Demoralizing Shout, Revenge |
| 16 | Shield Block, Mocking Blow |
| 18 | Disarm |
| 20 | Victory Rush, Slam, Cleave, Retaliation |
| 22 | Intimidating Shout |
| 24 | Execute |
| 26 | Challenging Shout |
| 28 | Shield Wall |
| 30 | Berserker Stance (class quest), Berserker Rage, Intercept |
| 36 | Whirlwind |
| 38 | Pummel |
| 50 | Recklessness |
Talents add the rest of the toolkit. The key talented abilities are Sweeping Strikes, Spearing Strike and Mortal Strike for Arms, Death Wish, Raging Blows and Bloodthirst for Fury, and Last Stand, Concussion Blow and Shield Slam for Protection.
Our WoW Forever Warrior leveling guide shows which of these abilities to use at each stage from 1 to 60.
Stances decide which abilities a Warrior can use, and Shouts are the buffs and debuffs only a Warrior brings to a group. Knowing when to swap Stances is the biggest skill gap in the class, and Forever makes swapping cheaper.
You can be in one Stance at a time. Changing Stance used to wipe out almost all your Rage; with baseline Tactical Mastery you keep 10 Rage, and Improved Tactical Mastery in the Arms tree raises that to 25.
| Stance | Level | How You Get It | Effect | Key Abilities |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Battle Stance | 1 | Starting ability | Balanced offense | Charge, Overpower, Thunder Clap, Retaliation |
| Defensive Stance | 10 | Class quest | Less damage taken, more threat, less damage dealt | Taunt, Revenge, Shield Block, Shield Wall, now also Thunder Clap |
| Berserker Stance | 30 | Class quest | More crit, more damage taken | Whirlwind, Intercept, Pummel, Berserker Rage, Recklessness |
Thunder Clap in Defensive Stance is a big change for tanks: you no longer leave Defensive Stance to slow and hold a pack. Protection Warriors with the Vanguard talent can also Charge without leaving it.
Shouts cost Rage and affect your group or nearby enemies. Their longer duration from the old Booming Voice talent is now baseline.
On top of Shouts, Warriors bring Sunder Armor and Thunder Clap to every raid boss, and Arms adds the healing reduction of Mortal Strike.
Warriors keep three talent trees, each with a new 16-point gold medal talent. Arms and Fury both deal melee damage, Arms with a big two-handed weapon and Fury usually dual wielding, while Protection is the most traditional tank in the game.
| Spec | Role | Key New Talents | Strengths | Weaknesses |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arms | Melee DPS, PvP | Weaponmaster, Spearing Strike, Bloodthrill | Burst, Mortal Strike healing reduction, strong leveling | Needs a strong two-handed weapon |
| Fury | Melee DPS | Raging Blows, Precision, Death Wish | Sustained damage on multiple targets | Gear-hungry, fragile without a healer |
| Protection | Tank | Master of Defense, Vanguard, Bastion | Rage from blocks, dodges and parries, strong cooldowns | Slow solo leveling |
Arms is built around Rend and Overpower: Bloodthrill gives your swings on a bleeding target a chance to enable Overpower. Weaponmaster replaces the four weapon specializations with one talent that adapts to what you hold: crit for axes and polearms, armor penetration for maces and staves, extra attacks for swords. The new Spearing Strike dismounts players and deals double damage to mounted targets, Dragonkin and Giants, and Improved Slam moved to Arms so that Slam no longer resets your swing timer. Mortal Strike still caps the tree.
Fury is about keeping Rage flowing. Unbridled Wrath procs more often and gives 2 Rage with a two-handed weapon, Dual Wield Specialization now also raises off-hand hit chance, and Enrage can trigger from any damage you take. The 16-point Raging Blows makes Whirlwind hit with both weapons and makes Cleave cheaper, so Fury shines on packs of enemies. Bloodthirst no longer heals; it now gives 10% run speed for 10 seconds.
Protection gains Rage from defense: Shield Specialization now gives 5 Rage on a block instead of 1, and Master of Defense gives 5 Rage on a dodge or parry while you hold a shield. Defiance needs a shield equipped, Improved Shield Wall cuts the Shield Wall cooldown by a lot, and Bastion adds damage while a shield is equipped, which also helps solo. Shield Slam scales more with Block Value.
Our WoW Forever Warrior tier set guide lists the raid set bonuses along with the crafted pieces.
Every race in Forever can be a Warrior: Orc, Undead, Tauren, Troll and Windshaper Skyborne for the Horde, and Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome and High Order Skyborne for the Alliance. The reworked racials leave no single must-pick race, so choose by role.
| Race | Faction | Key Racials for a Warrior | Best Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orc | Horde | Blood Fury: +10% Attack Power; Hardiness: 20% shorter stuns; Savage: +1% crit | Fury, Arms and PvP |
| Troll | Horde | Berserking: +10% attack speed; Rapid Regeneration: heals 50% health over 6 sec out of combat | Leveling and Fury |
| Tauren | Horde | Endurance: +5% health; War Stomp: AoE stun | Protection |
| Undead | Horde | Will of the Forsaken: removes Fear and Charm; Touch of the Grave: health drain on hit | PvP |
| Windshaper Skyborne | Horde | Wind Blessed: +3% Haste; Walk on Air: 10-sec glide | Fury and open world |
| Human | Alliance | Will to Survive: removes stuns; Ruthless: +2% crit with any weapon | Fury, Arms and PvP |
| Dwarf | Alliance | Stoneform: removes bleeds and poisons, 10% less Physical damage | Protection |
| Night Elf | Alliance | Elune's Light: +10% crit for 15 sec; Shadowmeld in combat | Arms and PvP |
| Gnome | Alliance | Escape Artist: removes snares; Eureka!: cheaper and stronger attacks for 8 sec; Expansive Mind: +5% maximum Rage | PvP and Fury |
| High Order Skyborne | Alliance | Wind Blessed: +3% Haste; Read Leyline: faster regeneration | Leveling and Fury |
For damage, Orc and Human remain the safest picks, while Night Elf, Gnome and Troll got noticeable buffs to their racials and are real alternatives now. For tanking, Tauren and Dwarf bring the most survival.
Our WoW Forever race tier list ranks every race for every class, and our WoW Forever Skyborne race guide covers the new race in full.
These are the questions players ask most about the Warrior before launch.
Yes. Warriors remain top melee damage dealers and tanks, and Forever makes them easier to play: Rage no longer drops when your armor improves, and Victory Rush and Tactical Mastery are baseline. They still rely on healers more than hybrid classes.
Yes. Victory Rush at level 20 heals you for 10% of your maximum health after each kill, Rage from taking damage no longer shrinks as you upgrade armor, and Rend and Thunder Clap scale with Attack Power.
Rage from taking damage ignores armor and absorbs, Rage from dealing damage is normalized to weapon speed, and critical strikes give 75% more Rage. You also keep 10 Rage when changing Stances thanks to baseline Tactical Mastery.
Yes. Thunder Clap now works in Defensive Stance with a 6-second cooldown, and the Protection talent Vanguard lets you Charge without leaving it.
Axe, Mace, Sword and Polearm Specialization were merged into one Arms talent, Weaponmaster, which gives a different bonus depending on the weapon you equip.
No. Bloodthirst now gives 10% movement speed for 10 seconds instead of healing. Fury sustain comes from Blood Craze and Victory Rush.
All ten: Orc, Undead, Tauren, Troll and Windshaper Skyborne for the Horde, and Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome and High Order Skyborne for the Alliance.
