WoW Forever Alcaz Prison Guide
Alcaz Prison is the new level 48–53 dungeon of WoW Forever, and for years it was only a rumor. The Defias Brotherhood held nobles for ransom in a prison under the tower on Alcaz Island, off the north-east coast of Dustwallow Marsh, and the story said King Varian Wrynn was one of them. Now the prison is open, the Defias jailers are at war with the Strashaz naga inside, and a squad of Kor'kron has gone in to find out what happened to the king.
Most players get stuck on the quests, not the bosses. The Horde chain starts with Sergeant Ulka outside the prison, goes on with Commander Folkar in the cells and ends at Thrall in Orgrimmar with a choice of three blue items. The Alliance quest comes from the Kirin Tor in Dalaran. Below you will find the entrance with coordinates, every quest found so far with its giver, experience and rewards, the five bosses with their levels and tactics from the first runs, the loot seen dropping next to the probable drops, and the tips that save a wipe.
Alcaz Prison at a Glance
These are the numbers to check before you look for a group. The dungeon has been open since the November 4 launch, but its quest IDs are not public yet, so quest experience comes from what players saw in the game.

How to Get to Alcaz Prison
Alcaz Island lies in the sea north-east of Theramore, off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh. Alliance players fly to Theramore (67.5, 51.2), Horde players to Brackenwall Village (35.6, 31.8), and then ride to the north-east shore and swim across to the island. The prison is under the old tower on the island. Go inside, take the stairs down to the basement, and the portal waits at the end of the corridor at about 75.3, 14.1.
The Alcaz Prison portal on Alcaz Island and the nearest flight paths for both factions
Horde players should stop before the tower. Sergeant Ulka, a level 55 Kor'kron Elite, stands outside the prison at 70.4, 19.0, and his quest starts the whole Horde chain. You cannot pick it up anywhere else, so grab it before you zone in.

There is no attunement or key listed for Alcaz Prison. The dungeons that do need a key are covered in our WoW Forever attunements and dungeon keys guide. Alcaz Prison also counts toward Master Spelunker, the account-wide achievement for 17 dungeons from Razorfen Downs to Blackmaw Hold that earns 1 Legacy Point.
Alcaz Prison Quests
The quest list is short so far, and that is the problem: players are still finding the givers four days after launch. The Horde has a full chain about the Kor'kron and King Varian plus two quests about the prisoners' captors. The Alliance has one Kirin Tor quest from Dalaran. Quest experience is not split in a group, so everyone who carries a quest gets the full amount. The table lists the quests you complete inside the dungeon, and the chains are explained under it.
Alcaz Prison Quests by Faction
Horde Quests
6 quests found so far, 39,570 XP known
Four quests form one chain from Sergeant Ulka to Thrall. The other two are separate, and nobody has confirmed who gives them yet. None of these quests has a Wowhead page yet, so most levels are not confirmed, but all of them are built for the dungeon's 48–53 range.
| Quest | Level | Starts | XP | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No Orc Left Behind | Not confirmed yet | Sergeant Ulka outside the prison, 70.4, 19.0 | 12,463 | No item known, leads to The Honor of the Kor'kron |
| The Honor of the Kor'kron | Not confirmed yet | Commander Folkar inside the prison | 12,463 | No item known, ends at the Perfumed Note after Blazeroar |
| Bad News for Folkar | Not confirmed yet | The Perfumed Note after Blazeroar | 2,472 | No item known, leads to Thrall Needs to Know |
| Thrall Needs to Know | Not confirmed yet | Commander Folkar inside the prison | 2,472 | Choice of Fatebound Buckler (blue), Courier's Clasp (blue) or Dustwallow Dirk (blue) |
| Blood Red Bandanas | Not confirmed yet | Not known yet, most likely a Kor'kron at the prison | 9,700 | Choice of Bloodsplattered Bandana (green) or Makeshift Belt (green) |

Alliance Quests
1 quest found so far, 14,400 XP
The only Alliance quest found so far is a Kirin Tor errand, and it is sharable. No Alliance version of the Kor'kron chain has been seen.
| Quest | Level | Starts | XP | Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Dragon's Journal | Level 53, from 46 | Most likely Archmage Lan'dalock in Dalaran, not confirmed yet | 14,400 | 80 silver, 300 reputation with Kirin Tor and 150 with Stormwind, no item |
Horde Quest Chain: The Kor'kron and King Varian
The chain starts outside. Sergeant Ulka sends you into the prison with No Orc Left Behind to find his commander, and you hand it in to Commander Folkar in the cells. Folkar then gives The Honor of the Kor'kron: look for King Varian Wrynn in the prison. The trail ends at a Perfumed Note lying on the ground in the hidden room after Blazeroar, the last boss. The note completes the quest and starts Bad News for Folkar, which takes you back to the commander. Folkar then gives Thrall Needs to Know: bring word of Varian Wrynn's fate to Thrall in the Valley of Wisdom in Orgrimmar (32.0, 37.8) for a choice of three blue items.
Thrall and Eitrigg in Grommash Hold, Valley of Wisdom
The chain is worth about 30,000 experience in one run. Do not leave before you read the note: the last two quests come from the commander inside the prison.
There are probably two lead-up quests in Dustwallow Marsh as well. The Missing Kor'kron (level 53, from 48, sharable) sends you to Nazeer Bloodpike in Brackenwall Village (35.2, 30.7), and its follow-up The Elite of the Elite asks you to find the missing Kor'kron Elites. Each pays 1,300 experience and Orgrimmar reputation. Wowhead does not list their givers yet, and no player has confirmed that they lead to Sergeant Ulka, but they are the only Kor'kron quests at the same level. If you see them on your way through Brackenwall, take them.
| Quest | Level | Starts | Ends | XP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Missing Kor'kron (probable lead-up) | Level 53, from 48 | Giver not listed yet | Nazeer Bloodpike, Brackenwall Village | 1,300 |
| The Elite of the Elite (probable lead-up) | Level 53, from 48 | Giver not listed yet | Not listed yet | 1,300 |
Blood Red Bandanas and A Little Payback
Blood Red Bandanas asks for 8 Blood Red Bandanas from the human guards of the prison, the Defias jailers you meet from the first hall on. You hand it in to Eitrigg in Grommash Hold, Orgrimmar (34.4, 38.6), for a choice of the Bloodsplattered Bandana or the Makeshift Belt. The giver is most likely one of the Kor'kron at the prison, but nobody has confirmed it yet.
A Little Payback is the naga quest: kill 15 Strashaz Soldiers and 8 Strashaz Enchantresses, and bring back Ca'zass's Head from Tidemistress Ca'zass. A Horde player had it in the quest log at level 53, but who gives it, where you hand it in and whether the Alliance gets it too are still unknown.
Alliance Quest: The Dragon's Journal
The Dragon's Journal is a Kirin Tor request. A mage of Dalaran and Archmage Timear have been scrying Alcaz Island and found a powerful magic user who dispelled their probes, but not before they saw a journal written in ancient draconic script. Your task is to bring back Zarla's Journal, and it drops from Blazeroar. The quest is sharable, so one copy is enough to spread it around the group.
Wowhead does not name the giver yet. The text speaks of Timear as a partner, and the other Kirin Tor dungeon quests of WoW Forever come from Archmage Lan'dalock in Dalaran (Alterac Mountains 15.5, 73.7), so start with him. The Horde gets similar dungeon quests from Mazu'kon in Mulgore, but no Horde quest for the journal has been found yet.
Archmage Lan'dalock and Archmage Timear stand side by side in Dalaran
The Alcaz Prison quests are also in our tool below, which updates as the game data fills in. The full list of dungeon quests from level 10 to 60 is in our WoW Forever dungeon quests guide.
Quest Items Inside Alcaz Prison
Most of the quests ask for items rather than kills. These are the ones to watch for.
- Blood Red Bandanas: 8 from the Defias guards for Blood Red Bandanas (Horde).
- Ca'zass's Head: from Tidemistress Ca'zass for A Little Payback.
- Zarla's Journal: from Blazeroar for The Dragon's Journal (Alliance).
- The Perfumed Note: on the floor of the hidden room after Blazeroar, for The Honor of the Kor'kron (Horde).
- Overseer's Keyring: not a quest item, but it drops from Overseer Wrex and opens the door to the lower floor.
Alcaz Prison Bosses
The game data lists five boss encounters in Alcaz Prison. Players report The Questioner as the second boss, which is the order below, while the game's own encounter list puts him fourth. The prison is open, though, and the first groups did not follow it: one went from Tidemistress Ca'zass to Overseer Wrex, then down to Katerina the Cleaner and Blazeroar, and found The Questioner last. Two things are fixed. Overseer Wrex carries the key to the lower floor, and Blazeroar is the final boss, the one the game keeps a kill statistic for. The levels come from players who saw the bosses in the game. The layout reminds players of a much bigger Stockade, with Defias jailers in the first halls and side rooms full of cells.
Alcaz Prison map with the entrance at the top of the stairs (map: Atlas de Azeroth: Forever by Santiago Reyes)
| Order | Boss | Level | What we know |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Overseer Wrex | 50 | Calls his whole room when pulled, drops the Overseer's Keyring |
| 2 | The Questioner | 51 | Humanoid elite with a large health pool |
| 3 | Tidemistress Ca'zass | 50 | Naga caster, her adds cast Polymorph, drops Ca'zass's Head |
| 4 | Katerina the Cleaner | 52 | Heavy fire damage to the whole group |
| 5 | Blazeroar | 53 | Final boss, a red dragon disguised as the prisoner Zarla Ober |
Our dungeon tool shows the bosses and their loot table and will fill in as drops are recorded.
Overseer Wrex
Overseer Wrex runs the jail and has no Wowhead page yet. In the first runs he sat in a jail room off to the side of the upper floor, and when he was pulled he called the whole room: six to eight Alcaz Jailers and bounty hunters at once. Pull him back out into the corridor, never into the next room, and use crowd control on the extra jailers. He drops the Overseer's Keyring, which opens the locked door to the lower floor, so kill him early. Groups have seen him drop Grips of Control and Wrex's Pinky Ring.
Overseer Wrex waits in a side room with his jailers: pull him out into the corridor
The Questioner
The Questioner is the prison's torturer. The first group to reach him felt he had far more health than the other bosses and joked that he was the real last boss, so expect a long fight and save cooldowns for it. He has been seen dropping Girdle of Extracted Answers, Fingerbreaker Stamp and Defias Enforcer's Shoulderpads.
The Questioner: "Pain will loosen your lips!"
Tidemistress Ca'zass
Tidemistress Ca'zass leads the Strashaz naga, and the first group found her near the cells soon after the entrance. She fights with naga adds that cast Polymorph over and over, so kill the adds first or interrupt them with Kick or Counterspell. A shaman's Grounding Totem soaks the spells, and the Tidemistress herself drops Blizzard on the group, so move out of it. Groups have seen her drop Tidesong Wand and Seascale Bracers, and the Cloak of the Tidemistress carries her name.
Tidemistress Ca'zass comes with Strashaz Enchantresses that spam Polymorph
Katerina the Cleaner
In the first run the group reached Katerina the Cleaner after opening the locked door with Wrex's key. Her fire hits the whole group hard, and the room fills with fire effects, so it is hard to see what she is doing. Let the healer drink to full before the pull and burn her fast. Prisoners are chained around her room: leave them alone during the fight. In one of the first runs a player freed a prisoner in the middle of the fight, and the pull fell apart soon after. She has been seen dropping Cutthroat Chestguard, and Katerina's Shanker carries her name.
Katerina the Cleaner and her chaplains: "Are you quicker than my blades?"
Blazeroar
Near the end of the prison the first group met Zarla Ober, one of the prisoners. She offered a quest to recover a shackle, and moments later she turned into Blazeroar, a red dragon and the final boss of the dungeon. Fire spells did nothing to her in that fight, so fire mages should switch to Frostbolt and fire-heavy groups should expect a slower kill. She drops Zarla's Journal for the Alliance quest. Behind her is a hidden room with the Perfumed Note for the Horde chain, so check the floor before you leave.
Zarla Ober drops her disguise and becomes Blazeroar, a red dragon
No boss loot from Blazeroar has been recorded yet. The shackle quest is not on Wowhead either: in the same run the shackle dropped from The Questioner and the turn-in seemed to pay about 3,000 experience, but the quest's name and reward are not confirmed.
Commander Folkar and the Prisoners
Commander Folkar is not a boss but the Horde quest giver, held in the cells. Alliance groups find him chained and hostile. He parries a lot, gave no experience and had no loot in the first run, so the Alliance can walk past him.
Alcaz Prison Loot
The boss loot of Alcaz Prison is only partly known. Nine blue items have been seen dropping in the first runs. Seven more are probable: they carry a boss's name, belong to the Defias Enforcer's Garb set or sit among the dungeon's item numbers on Wowhead, so treat them as a guess until someone loots them. All of them require level 47 to 50.
| Item | Type | Stats | Drops from | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grips of Control | Hands, plate | +12 Stamina, +12 Intellect, 5 mana per 5 sec | Overseer Wrex | Seen dropping |
| Wrex's Pinky Ring | Finger | +11 Agility, +9 Stamina, 9 health per 5 sec | Overseer Wrex | Seen dropping |
| Girdle of Extracted Answers | Waist, plate | +12 Strength, +15 Stamina, 20 to 30 damage every time you block | The Questioner | Seen dropping |
| Fingerbreaker Stamp | Trinket | +6 Defense, +38 Strength while you are affected by a Bleed | The Questioner | Seen dropping |
| Defias Enforcer's Shoulderpads | Shoulder, leather | +13 Stamina, 0.5% critical strike, +28 attack power | The Questioner | Seen dropping |

| Seascale Bracers | Wrist, mail | +8 Stamina, +3 spell penetration, up to +10 spell damage | Tidemistress Ca'zass | Seen dropping |
| Cutthroat Chestguard | Chest, mail | +20 Stamina, 1% hit, +32 attack power | Katerina the Cleaner | Seen dropping |
| Defias Enforcer's Prowlers | Feet, leather, binds when equipped | +16 Stamina, +28 attack power | Trash | Seen dropping |
| Cloak of the Tidemistress | Back | +13 Stamina, +60 armor, 0.5% hit | Most likely Tidemistress Ca'zass | Probable |
| Katerina's Shanker | One-hand dagger | 42–79 damage, speed 1.70, +7 Agility, 0.5% dodge, +21 attack power against humanoids | Most likely Katerina the Cleaner | Probable |
| Alcaz Willcrusher | Two-hand mace | 115–173 damage, speed 3.20, +20 Strength, 1% dodge, 1% critical strike | Not known yet | Probable |
| Sentimental Locket | Neck | +7 Strength, +9 Shadow Resistance, 1% hit | Not known yet | Probable |
| Defias Enforcer's Legguards | Legs, leather | +20 Agility, +16 Fire Resistance, 1% hit | Not known yet | Probable |
| Defias Enforcer's Mask | Head, leather, binds when equipped | +20 Stamina, 1% less chance to be dodged or parried, +30 attack power | Trash | Probable |
| Defias Enforcer's Chest | Chest, leather, binds when equipped | +14 Strength, +22 Agility, +11 Stamina | Trash | Probable |
Defias Enforcer's Garb Set
The five Defias Enforcer's leather pieces in the table form the Defias Enforcer's Garb set, built for rogues and other leather melee. Two pieces give +10 Fire Resistance, three give +15 Stamina, four give +1 to Swords, and the full set gives melee attacks a chance to raise your critical strike chance by 2% for 20 seconds, doubled in swamps. Dustwallow Marsh is a swamp, so the bonus is strongest right outside the prison. The Mask, Chest and Prowlers bind when equipped, so they will show up on the Auction House.
Tips for Alcaz Prison
These tips come from the first groups to clear the prison and from what the quests ask for. Most of them save either a wipe or a second run.
- Horde: talk to Sergeant Ulka at 70.4, 19.0 before you zone in. The chain cannot start anywhere else.
- Loot every Defias guard. The Blood Red Bandanas come from the human jailers you fight from the first hall on.
- Kill Overseer Wrex early: his Overseer's Keyring opens the lower floor.
- Pull every room out into the corridor. Wrex calls his whole room of six to eight jailers.
- Do not kite the prison's hounds. They charge players who run away from them, so fight them where they stand.
- Bring interrupts and crowd control. The Defias and the naga are humanoids, so Polymorph and Sap work on them, and casters in the first halls use Frost Volley.
- Switch off fire for Blazeroar, the dragon shrugged off fire spells in the first run.
- Horde: read the Perfumed Note after Blazeroar and talk to Commander Folkar again before you leave.
- Go at level 50 or higher. The bosses are level 50 to 53 and every mob inside is an elite.

What We Still Don't Know About Alcaz Prison
These are the open questions four days after launch. We will update the guide as more groups clear the prison.
- Who gives Blood Red Bandanas, A Little Payback and The Dragon's Journal, and the quest IDs of the Horde chain.
- Whether The Missing Kor'kron and The Elite of the Elite lead to Sergeant Ulka.
- The loot of Blazeroar, which boss drops the probable items and the drop chances.
- The name and reward of Zarla Ober's shackle quest, and the note found in the same run that points to a hidden treasure in Westfall.
- The full abilities of every boss.
If you would rather skip the jailers and the dragon, our WoW Forever Alcaz Prison boost clears the dungeon with an organized team, with quest rewards, gear and experience included.

WoW Forever Alcaz Prison FAQ
These are the questions players ask most often about Alcaz Prison.
What level is Alcaz Prison in WoW Forever?
Alcaz Prison is built for levels 48 to 53. The quests open at level 46 or 48, but the bosses are level 50 to 53, so a group at 50 or higher has the smoothest run.
Where is the Alcaz Prison entrance?
On Alcaz Island, off the north-east coast of Dustwallow Marsh. Swim to the island, enter the old tower and take the stairs down to the portal at about 75.3, 14.1.
How many quests does Alcaz Prison have?
Seven have been found so far: six for the Horde and one for the Alliance. The Horde chain is worth about 30,000 experience, and the Alliance quest The Dragon's Journal pays 14,400.
Is King Varian Wrynn in Alcaz Prison?
You will not find him in a cell. The Horde chain sends you to look for him, the trail ends at a Perfumed Note after the last boss, and you report his fate to Thrall.
Does Alcaz Prison need a key?
Not to enter. Inside, the door to the lower floor is locked, and the Overseer's Keyring from Overseer Wrex opens it.
What does Alcaz Prison drop?
Nine blue items have been seen dropping so far, among them Fingerbreaker Stamp and Tidesong Wand, and leather wearers can collect the Defias Enforcer's Garb set. The best quest rewards are the blue items from Thrall Needs to Know.
