WoW Forever Zul'Farrak Guide

Updated 15 Oct 2026 | Author: Kir | ~9 min

Zul'Farrak is the sun-baked troll city in the west of Tanaris, home of the Sandfury trolls. It is the most famous dungeon of the mid 40s in WoW Forever because of its stairs event, where dozens of trolls rush the group at once, and because of the hidden hydra Gahz'rilla. Most quests here are open to both factions, and most of them start in Gadgetzan, close to the gates. The dungeon is tuned for levels 44 to 54.

Zul'Farrak is not open on the WoW Forever beta yet, so this guide covers the original version of the dungeon: how to get there, every quest, the stairs event, all bosses and the loot. The Forever database already shows reworked weapons with new effects, such as The Chief's Enforcer, which now deals double damage to trolls, and a Zum'rah's Vexing Cane that summons a zombie troll. We describe everything known so far and will add the rest after the November 4 launch.

Where Is Zul'Farrak and How to Get There

Zul'Farrak lies in the northwest of Tanaris, a short ride from Gadgetzan. Everyone should fly to Gadgetzan first: most quests start there, and the town is the nearest spirit healer stop.

Horde players ride south from Freewind Post through Thousand Needles and the Shimmering Flats. Alliance players take the boat from Menethil Harbor to Theramore and ride south through Dustwallow Marsh, or fly from Theramore once they have the flight path. From Gadgetzan, follow the road west into the desert until you reach the walls of the city.

Zul'Farrak Quests

Zul'Farrak has eight dungeon quests. Six of them are open to both factions, one is Alliance-only and one is Horde-only. The quests to prioritize are Divino-matic Rod and Tiara of the Deep: both pay strong item rewards and finish on the main route. Gahz'rilla needs a long preparation chain, so start it early if you want the hydra.

Quests for Both Factions

Most quests start in Gadgetzan, close to the dungeon:

Quest Level Quest Giver Objective Reward
Divino-matic Rod 47, requires 40 Chief Engineer Bilgewhizzle in Gadgetzan Take the Divino-matic Rod from Sergeant Bly, who drops it after the stairs event Masons Fraternity Ring or Engineer's Guild Headpiece
Tiara of the Deep 46, requires 40 Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh Bring the Tiara of the Deep from Hydromancer Velratha Spellshifter Rod and Gemshale Pauldrons
Troll Temper 45, requires 40 Trenton Lighthammer in Gadgetzan Collect 20 Troll Temper from Sandfury trolls Experience and silver
Scarab Shells 45, requires 40 Tran'rek in Gadgetzan, after a lead-in from Krazek in Booty Bay Collect five Uncracked Scarab Shell from the scarabs in the temple area Experience and silver
The Prophecy of Mosh'aru 47, requires 40 Yeh'kinya in Steamwheedle Port, in the chain from Screecher Spirits Bring the First Mosh'aru Tablet and Second Mosh'aru Tablet from Theka the Martyr and Hydromancer Velratha The chain continues toward the Sunken Temple
Gahz'rilla 50, requires 40 Wizzle Brassbolts in the Shimmering Flats Summon the hydra with the Mallet of Zul'Farrak and bring Gahz'rilla's Electrified Scale Carrot on a Stick

To make the Mallet of Zul'Farrak, take the Sacred Mallet from Qiaga the Keeper at the Altar of Zul in the Hinterlands, then use it at the altar in Jintha'Alor.

Alliance Quest

The Alliance quest is the fourth step of a chain that starts with Witherbark Cages in Aerie Peak:

Quest Level Quest Giver Objective Reward
Nekrum's Medallion 47, requires 40 Thadius Grimshade in Nethergarde Keep, the Blasted Lands Bring the medallion of Nekrum Gutchewer, who appears in the last wave of the stairs event Experience and silver

Horde Quest

The Horde quest is the fourth step of a chain that starts with Venom Bottles:

Quest Level Quest Giver Objective Reward
The Spider God 45, requires 40 Master Gadrin in Sen'jin Village, Durotar Read the Tablet of Theka near Theka the Martyr and learn the name of the Sandfury spider god Experience and silver

What We Already Know About Zul'Farrak in WoW Forever

The Forever database already lists the dungeon with its loot and quests. The bosses show no changes so far, and no new drops or quest rewards have appeared yet. What changed is the loot: several weapons got new effects that make them stronger in specific fights.

Reworked Loot With New Effects

Caster items gained Spell Power: Bad Mojo Mask now has 20 Shadow damage, and Gahz'rilla Scale Armor and Jinxed Hoodoo Kilt gained healing. The quest rewards Spellshifter Rod, with 54 Spell Power, and Gemshale Pauldrons became rare.

Zul'Farrak Bosses and Strategy

Zul'Farrak has nine bosses and one big event. Watch for the Sandfury Shadowhunter: its Hex makes every mob in the pack ignore the hexed player, so dispel it from the tank at once or crowd control the Shadowhunter.

Antu'sul

Antu'sul waits in a basin full of basilisks and calls more of them during the fight. Kill the adds and his totems first, interrupt his heals, then finish him. He drops The Hand of Antu'sul, Vice Grips and more. Sang'thraze the Deflector drops in the same part of the city.

Theka the Martyr

Theka the Martyr is a tank and spank fight. At 30% health he becomes immune to physical and shadow damage for a while and calls nearby scarabs. Kill him first, then clean up the scarabs. The Tablet of Theka for The Spider God is in his room.

Witch Doctor Zum'rah

Witch Doctor Zum'rah raises zombies from the graveyard around him. Interrupt his Shadow Bolt Volley, kill his totems and switch to the zombies as soon as they appear. He drops Zum'rah's Vexing Cane and Jumanza Grips.

The Stairs Event

Kill a Sandfury Executioner for the Executioner's Key and open the cages at the top of the pyramid. The prisoners, including Sergeant Bly and Weegli Blastfuse, join you. Weegli blows open the temple door, and waves of trolls climb the stairs. Hold the top of the stairs, use area damage and keep the healer in the middle. The last wave brings Nekrum Gutchewer and Shadowpriest Sezz'ziz: kill Nekrum first and interrupt Sezz'ziz's heals. They drop Bad Mojo Mask, Jinxed Hoodoo Skin, Jinxed Hoodoo Kilt and Diabolic Skiver.

After the event, Sergeant Bly and his crew turn on the group. Kill his healer and his caster first, then Bly. He drops the Divino-matic Rod.

Hydromancer Velratha

Hydromancer Velratha patrols a room full of Sandfury elites. Pull her alone and interrupt her casts. She drops the Tiara of the Deep and the second tablet for The Prophecy of Mosh'aru.

Gahz'rilla

Gahz'rilla appears only when someone strikes the gong at the sacred pool with the Mallet of Zul'Farrak. Clear the area first. The tank stands with the back to a wall, and the group stacks on the tank, because his slam throws players into the air. He drops Gahz'rilla Fang, Gahz'rilla Scale Armor and Gahz'rilla's Electrified Scale.

Chief Ukorz Sandscalp

Chief Ukorz Sandscalp fights together with Ruuzlu at the top of the temple. Face both away from the group and keep melee behind them because of their cleaves. Kill Ruuzlu first. Ukorz drops The Chief's Enforcer, Big Bad Pauldrons, Jang'thraze the Protector and more.

Combine Jang'thraze the Protector and Sang'thraze the Deflector into Sul'thraze the Lasher, the most famous two-hand sword of the level range.

Zerillis

Zerillis is a rare sand spirit that roams the dunes inside the city. Pull him into melee range and fight him as a tank and spank. He drops Sandstalker Ankleguards.
