WoW Forever Sunken Temple Guide

Updated 15 Oct 2026 | Author: Kir | ~10 min

The Sunken Temple, or the Temple of Atal'Hakkar, is the flooded troll temple in the middle of the Swamp of Sorrows, built to summon the blood god Hakkar. It is one of the most confusing dungeons of the 50s in WoW Forever: three floors, six troll minibosses on the balconies, green dragons below and an optional summoning ritual for the Avatar of Hakkar. The dungeon is tuned for levels 50 to 60, and every class has its own quest here.

The Sunken Temple is not open on the WoW Forever beta yet, so this guide covers the original version of the dungeon: how to get in, every quest, the events, all bosses and the loot. The Forever database already shows reworked rewards, such as a Guardian Talisman that now hides you from enemies and a Lifeforce Dirk that heals you on hit. We describe everything known so far and will add the rest after the November 4 launch.

Where Is the Sunken Temple and How to Get There

The temple lies in the lake in the middle of the Swamp of Sorrows. Horde players fly to Stonard, Alliance players fly to Nethergarde Keep in the Blasted Lands and ride north. Swim to the ruins in the center of the lake, find the entrance on the south side and walk down the stairs to the instance portal. Some quest items for Horde lie around the ruins outside.

Inside, the temple has three levels. The upper ring has six balconies with troll minibosses, the middle part holds the dragons and Jammal'an the Prophet, and the bottom has the Pit of Refuse with Atal'alarion and the Sanctum of the Fallen God for the Hakkar event.

Sunken Temple Quests

The Sunken Temple has about ten dungeon quests and a quest for every class. Most are open to both factions. The quests to prioritize are The God Hakkar, which pays the best rewards of the dungeon, and Jammal'an the Prophet. Class quests are worth doing too: each one ends with a strong item for that class.

Quests for Both Factions

Both factions can take these quests. Where the Forever data still hides a reward, the table shows the Classic one:

Quest Level Quest Giver Objective Reward
The Sunken Temple, Into the Depths and Secret of the Circle 51, requires 46 Marvon Rivetseeker in Tanaris Find the Altar of Hakkar inside, then solve the secret of the stone circle Hakkari Urn
The God Hakkar 53, requires 40 Yeh'kinya in Steamwheedle Port, at the end of the chain from Screecher Spirits Fill the Egg of Hakkar with the blood of the Hakkari Bloodkeeper during the summoning event in the Sanctum of the Fallen God Avenguard Helm, Lifeforce Dirk or Gemburst Circlet
Jammal'an the Prophet 53, requires 38 The Atal'ai Exile in the Hinterlands Bring the Head of Jammal'an Classic: Rainstrider Leggings or Helm of Exile
The Essence of Eranikus 55, requires 48 The Essence of Eranikus from the Shade of Eranikus Place the essence in the brazier in the back corner of his room Classic: Chained Essence of Eranikus

To solve the stone circle, kill Atal'alarion: a snake statue then rises in the center of the pool, and clicking it completes the chain. The chain of The God Hakkar passes through Zul'Farrak.

Alliance Quests

The Alliance quests start in Stormwind and Un'Goro Crater:

Quest Level Quest Giver Objective Reward
Into The Temple of Atal'Hakkar 50, requires 38 Brohann Caskbelly in Stormwind, after Rhapsody's Tale Collect ten Atal'ai Tablet inside the temple Guardian Talisman
Haze of Evil Requires 45 Muigin in Un'Goro Crater, after Muigin and Larion Collect five Atal'ai Haze from the worms and oozes down the stairs on the right after the entrance Not listed

Horde Quests

The Horde versions start in Stonard and Un'Goro Crater:

Quest Level Quest Giver Objective Reward
The Temple of Atal'Hakkar 50, requires 38 Fel'zerul in Stonard, after Pool of Tears Collect 20 Fetish of Hakkar from the elite trolls inside Guardian Talisman
Zapper Fuel Requires 45 Larion in Un'Goro Crater, after Larion and Muigin Collect the same five Atal'ai Haze as the Alliance quest Not listed

In the lead-in Pool of Tears, Witch Doctor Uzer'i in Feralas asks for ten Atal'ai Artifact around the ruins outside.

Class Quests

Every class has a quest that leads into the temple and ends with a choice of class items, such as the Fury Visor for Warriors, the Ebon Mask for Rogues, the Glacial Spike for Mages and the Woestave for Priests. Most of them ask for an item from the green dragons or the troll minibosses, so check your class trainer before you go.

What We Already Know About the Sunken Temple in WoW Forever

The Forever database already lists the temple with its quests and part of its loot. The bosses show no changes so far, and no new drops have appeared yet. Most boss loot is still hidden, so the biggest changes so far are in the quest rewards.

Quest Reward Changes

Item Quest What Changed
Guardian Talisman Into The Temple of Atal'Hakkar, The Temple of Atal'Hakkar Was a trinket with a 2% chance for 350 armor. Now gives 9 Stamina and on use reduces the range at which enemies detect you by 10 yards for 15 seconds
Lifeforce Dirk The God Hakkar Now heals you for 42 damage on hit
Avenguard Helm The God Hakkar More Agility
Gemburst Circlet The God Hakkar Lost Agility, gained Spell Power and Healing

The rewards of Jammal'an the Prophet and The Essence of Eranikus are still hidden, so expect new versions at launch. The Formula: Enchant Cloak - Greater Resistance that drops in the temple now teaches an enchant with all six resistances.

Sunken Temple Bosses and Strategy

The Sunken Temple has more than a dozen bosses. Troll packs with Deathwalkers and casters are the main danger, and the oozes and worms in the lower halls can poison the group.

The Statue Event and Atal'alarion

In the Pit of Refuse, click the six Atal'ai shrines in this order: south, north, southwest, southeast, northwest, northeast. When all of them turn green, Atal'alarion appears. His Sweeping Slam knocks down everyone in melee range and wipes threat, so the tank needs a moment before the group attacks again. He drops Atal'alarion's Tusk Ring, Darkwater Bracers and Headspike.

The Troll Minibosses

Six troll minibosses stand on the balconies of the upper ring: Gasher, Loro, Hukku, Zolo, Mijan and Zul'Lor. Each has one trick, such as Mijan's healing ward or Hukku's summoned demons, so kill the ward or the pets first. Killing all six opens the way to Jammal'an the Prophet. They drop pieces of the Atal'ai set.

Jammal'an the Prophet and Ogom the Wretched

Jammal'an the Prophet fights together with Ogom the Wretched. Separate them and kill Ogom first, spread out against Jammal'an's Hex and Flamestrike, and interrupt his Healing Wave. Jammal'an drops Gloves of the Atal'ai Prophet, Kilt of the Atal'ai Prophet and Vestments of the Atal'ai Prophet, and the Head of Jammal'an for the quest.

The Green Dragons

Four green dragons guard the middle level: Weaver, Dreamscythe, Hazzas and Morphaz. Pull them one at a time, tank them with their backs to a wall and keep their Acid Breath away from the group. They drop Smoldering Claw, Drakestone, Nightfall Drape and more, and items for several class quests.

Shade of Eranikus

The Shade of Eranikus is the last boss on the dragon path. He puts players to sleep, uses War Stomp and Acid Breath, and his threat drops when he sleeps the tank, so ranged players stay out of melee and manage threat. He drops Rod of Corrosion, Horns of Eranikus, Dragon's Call and the Essence of Eranikus.

Avatar of Hakkar

The Avatar of Hakkar is an optional event in the Sanctum of the Fallen God. Use the Egg of Hakkar, kill the adds until a Hakkari Bloodkeeper appears, take its blood and put out one of the four braziers. When all four are out, the Avatar appears. He mind controls a player with Cause Insanity, so stun or crowd control that player, and dispel Shadow Word: Pain. He drops Might of Hakkar, Spire of Hakkar, Embrace of the Wind Serpent and more.

Best Sunken Temple Loot for Each Role

The Sunken Temple prepares a character for the level 60 dungeons. These are the drops and rewards worth planning for:

Tips for the Sunken Temple

These small things save the most time and the most wipes in the Sunken Temple:

  • Write down the shrine order: south, north, southwest, southeast, northwest, northeast.
  • Collect the Atal'ai Artifact around the ruins before you enter if you are Horde.
  • Kill all six troll minibosses before you look for Jammal'an the Prophet. The barrier stays up otherwise.
  • Bring a stun or a crowd control spell for Cause Insanity on the Avatar of Hakkar.
  • Check your class quest first. Many class quests need an item from a dragon in this temple.
