Alchemy is still one of the most useful professions in WoW Forever. While leveling and later preparing for endgame content, you can use it to craft mana potions, elixirs, oils, protection potions, and plenty of other consumables. There are some important differences from the old Classic version, though, which means the familiar 1-300 routes no longer work exactly the same way.
This WoW Forever Alchemy leveling guide takes you from 1 to 300 step by step. It also covers the materials needed along the way, Alchemy trainer locations, and several alternative recipes worth checking when the main route becomes too expensive.
Important: Material totals are approximate because yellow recipes do not guarantee a skill point with every craft. For Alchemy 290-300, several recipes can be used, so check reagent prices on your realm before choosing the final leveling route.
The biggest change for leveling Alchemy is the removal of healing potion crafting from the profession. In WoW Forever, healing potions have moved to First Aid. That immediately changes several parts of the route players may remember from older Classic Alchemy guides.
Alchemy pairs naturally with Herbalism since most recipes depend on herbs. If you gather Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Mageroyal, Briarthorn, Goldthorn, Sungrass, and the other required herbs yourself, you can cut a large part of the Auction House cost.
The route below focuses on the most efficient recipe ranges currently available in WoW Forever. Keep in mind that some recipes eventually turn yellow, so the exact number of materials you use may be a little higher or lower.
The list below covers the full 1-300 Alchemy leveling route used in this guide. Material totals are estimates because several recipes turn yellow and may not grant a skill point with every craft, so keeping a small amount of extra reagents is recommended.
| Material | Approx. Amount |
|---|---|
| Peacebloom | 91 |
| Silverleaf | 45 |
| Mageroyal | 50 |
| Earthroot | 54 |
| Briarthorn | 60 |
| Stranglekelp | 25 |
| Firefin Snapper | 40 |
| Kingsblood | 30 |
| Wild Steelbloom | 35 |
| Goldthorn | 52 |
| Khadgar's Whisker | 17 |
| Arthas' Tears | 45 |
| Sungrass | 60 |
| Blindweed | 94 |
| Plaguebloom | 51 |
| Empty Vial | 151 |
| Leaded Vial | 82 |
| Crystal Vial | 75 |
| Imbued Vial | 17 |
Important: Fire Oil is crafted during the 130-150 leveling step and then reused for Elixir of Fire Power, so you do not need to purchase it separately.
You can also finish 290-300 with suitable high-level recipes listed later in this guide. Because their availability and Auction House prices vary by realm, compare the options before buying your final batch of materials.
Apprentice Alchemy currently has no character level requirement in WoW Forever. You can therefore pick up the profession right away, even on a fresh character.
For Horde characters, Apprentice Alchemy is available in the capital cities from:
There are also starting-zone trainers. Orcs and Trolls can visit Miao'zan in Sen'jin Village, while Undead characters can learn from Carolai Anise in Brill.
Mulgore currently has no Alchemy trainer, so Tauren players will need to head to Kray in Thunder Bluff instead.
Alliance characters can use the following capital-city trainers:
Humans can also learn Alchemy from Alchemist Mallory between Northshire and Stormwind. Night Elves have Cyndra Kindwhisper in Dolanaar.
Dwarves and Gnomes do not have an Alchemy trainer in Dun Morogh, so Vosur Brakthel in Ironforge is the nearby option.
Skyborne characters on Zephras Isle have several trainers available:
The opening stretch is simple. Everything here uses cheap herbs that are easy to find in early zones.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Minor Arcane Elixir | 9 | 9x Peacebloom 9x Empty Vial |
| Elixir of Minor Force (alternative) | 9 | 9x Silverleaf 9x Empty Vial |
There is no real reason to overthink this first step. Use whichever herb is cheaper on your realm or already sitting in your bags.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Elixir of Minor Defense | 45 | 45x Silverleaf 45x Peacebloom 45x Empty Vial |
At roughly 50 Alchemy skill, you can move on and train Journeyman Alchemy.
Journeyman Alchemy requires 50 Alchemy skill and character level 10.
Horde players can train it from Yelmak in Orgrimmar, Doctor Marsh in Undercity, or Bena Winterhoof in Thunder Bluff.
On the Alliance side, the trainers are Lilyssia Nightbreeze in Stormwind, Tally Berryfizz in Ironforge, and Sylvanna Forestmoon in Darnassus.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Minor Mana Potion | 10 | 10x Mageroyal 10x Peacebloom 10x Empty Vial |
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Elixir of Minor Fortitude | 27 | 54x Earthroot 27x Peacebloom 27x Empty Vial |
Elixir of Minor Fortitude turns yellow at 80. Because of that, 27 crafts are an estimate and you may need a few extra to actually reach 90.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Elixir of Wisdom | 30 | 30x Mageroyal 60x Briarthorn 30x Empty Vial |
Leveling Tailoring at the same time? Keep these elixirs. Gloves of Meditation require Elixir of Wisdom, so they may still be useful later.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Lesser Mana Potion | 10 | 10x Mageroyal 10x Stranglekelp 10x Empty Vial |
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Fire Oil | 20 | 40x Firefin Snapper 20x Empty Vial |
| Lesser Mana Potion (alternative) | 20 | 20x Mageroyal 20x Stranglekelp 20x Empty Vial |
Each craft gives you two Fire Oils. Do not sell all of them straight away: keep at least 30 if you plan to use Elixir of Fire Power for the next range.
If Firefin Snapper is overpriced or simply hard to find, use the Lesser Mana Potion alternative listed in the table above.
Expert Alchemy requires 125 Alchemy skill and character level 20.
Horde players can train it from Doctor Herbert Halsey in Undercity. Alliance players need Ainethil in Darnassus. The training cost is currently 50 Silver.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Elixir of Fire Power | 15 | 30x Fire Oil 15x Kingsblood 15x Leaded Vial |
| Lesser Mana Potion (alternative) | ~22 additional | 22x Mageroyal 22x Stranglekelp 22x Empty Vial |
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Mana Potion | 15 | 15x Stranglekelp 15x Kingsblood 15x Leaded Vial |
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Elixir of Lesser Fortitude | 15 | 15x Wild Steelbloom 15x Goldthorn 15x Leaded Vial |
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Elixir of Defense | 20 | 20x Wild Steelbloom 20x Goldthorn 20x Leaded Vial |
| Nature Protection Potion (alternative) | 20 | 20x Liferoot 20x Stranglekelp 20x Leaded Vial |
This is one of the ranges where the default route can get expensive, mostly because of Goldthorn.
If the price looks bad on your realm, use the Nature Protection Potion alternative listed in the table above.
Nature Protection Potion turns yellow at 210, so having materials for another one or two crafts is sensible.
Recipe: Nature Protection Potion can currently be purchased from Bronk and Logannas in Feralas, Glyx Brewright in Stranglethorn Vale, or Alchemist Pestlezugg in Tanaris.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Greater Mana Potion | 11 | 11x Khadgar's Whisker 11x Goldthorn 11x Leaded Vial |
The recipe becomes yellow at 220. Those last five points are therefore not guaranteed to take exactly five crafts, so keep a small buffer.
To train Artisan Alchemy, your character needs 200 Alchemy skill and level 35.
Horde players can learn it from Rogvar in Stonard, Swamp of Sorrows.
Alliance players can visit Kylanna Windwhisper at Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas.
Important: From 225 to 300 Alchemy, several recipes turn yellow before the end of their leveling range, so the exact number of crafts may vary. Keep a small amount of extra reagents instead of buying only the minimum listed in each step.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Greater Mana Potion | 6 | 6x Khadgar's Whisker 6x Goldthorn 6x Leaded Vial |
Greater Mana Potion is already yellow here, so six crafts may not be enough in every case. Plan for one or two extras.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Draught of Detect Undead | 45 | 45x Arthas' Tears 45x Crystal Vial |
This recipe turns yellow at 245, which is why the listed 45 crafts should be treated as an estimate rather than a fixed total.
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Mana Potion | 10 | 20x Sungrass 20x Blindweed 10x Crystal Vial |
The Superior Mana Potion recipe is currently sold by Algernon in Undercity and Ulthir in Darnassus.
From here, there is no reason to force one recipe if its materials are expensive. Compare prices on your realm first and pick the option that costs you the least.
| Recipe | Estimated Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Mana Potion | 20 | 40x Sungrass 40x Blindweed 20x Crystal Vial |
| Elixir of Superior Defense | 17 | 34x Stonescale Oil 17x Sungrass 17x Crystal Vial |
| Elixir of Shadow Power | 27 | 81x Ghost Mushroom 27x Crystal Vial |
Elixir of Superior Defense turns yellow at 280. Superior Mana Potion and Elixir of Shadow Power are already yellow during this range, so none of these craft counts should be treated as exact.
The last ten points are much more flexible. Several recipes can take you to 300, and the cheapest one will depend on what recipes you have access to and what their materials cost on your realm.
Older Classic leveling routes often used Major Healing Potion here. That no longer works as an Alchemy leveling option in Forever because healing potion crafting has moved to First Aid.
You can stay with suitable yellow recipes from the previous range, or switch to one of the higher-level world-drop recipes if you have access to it.
Current options include:
| Recipe | Learn | Yellow | Grey |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elixir of the Sages | 270 | 285 | 325 |
| Elixir of Brute Force | 275 | 290 | 330 |
| Greater Dreamless Sleep Potion | 275 | 290 | 330 |
| Mageblood Elixir | 275 | 290 | 330 |
| Elixir of the Mongoose | 280 | 295 | 335 |
| Greater Stoneshield Potion | 280 | 295 | 335 |
| Greater Arcane Elixir | 285 | 300 | 340 |
| Living Action Potion | 285 | 300 | 340 |
| Purification Potion | 285 | 300 | 340 |
| Greater Arcane Protection Potion | 290 | 305 | 345 |
| Greater Fire Protection Potion | 290 | 305 | 345 |
| Greater Frost Protection Potion | 290 | 305 | 345 |
| Greater Holy Protection Potion | 290 | 305 | 345 |
| Greater Nature Protection Potion | 290 | 305 | 345 |
| Greater Shadow Protection Potion | 290 | 305 | 345 |
| Major Troll's Blood Elixir | 290 | 305 | 345 |
| Major Mana Potion | 295 | 310 | 350 |
These recipes come from drops and may also show up on the Auction House. Their availability — and especially their price — can differ quite a lot from one realm to another.
WoW Forever also has its own option here: Major Frenzy Potion. The recipe comes through the profession supply faction system, and the current route estimates around 17 crafts for 290-300:
| Recipe | Crafts | Required materials |
|---|---|---|
| Major Frenzy Potion | ~17 | 51x Plaguebloom 34x Blindweed 17x Imbued Vial |
Major Frenzy Potion turns yellow at 295, so getting those final five points can eat through a large part of the estimated 17 crafts.
There simply is not one universally cheapest route from 290 to 300. Recipe availability and Auction House prices matter too much here. Check what is actually available on your realm before buying a large pile of endgame herbs.
Check herb prices before locking yourself into a route. Fire Oil versus Lesser Mana Potion and Elixir of Defense versus Nature Protection Potion can end up costing very different amounts depending on the realm economy.
Also, do not vendor or sell crafted materials that appear again later in the guide. The clearest example is Fire Oil from 130-150: if you plan to use Elixir of Fire Power at 150, save at least the amount needed for that section.
One last thing worth remembering: yellow recipes do not guarantee a skill point. The material lists in this guide are working estimates, not exact shopping totals that will be identical for every character.
Good luck reaching 300 Alchemy, conquer! Before committing to the final ranges, especially 275-300, compare both recipe availability and herb prices on your realm.
The fastest practical route is to level Alchemy through the recommended recipe ranges from Apprentice to Artisan while switching to cheaper alternatives when needed. Several recipes turn yellow before the end of their range, so the exact number of crafts required to reach 300 can vary.
Alchemy 1-300 requires herbs such as Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Mageroyal, Briarthorn, Goldthorn, Sungrass, Blindweed, Plaguebloom, and several other reagents, together with Empty, Leaded, Crystal, and later Imbued Vials. Exact totals depend on the leveling route and how many skill points you receive from yellow recipes.
Alchemy is capped until Expert Alchemy is trained. Expert requires 125 Alchemy skill and character level 20. Horde players can train it from Doctor Herbert Halsey in Undercity, while Alliance players can learn it from Ainethil in Darnassus.
Horde players can train Artisan Alchemy from Rogvar in Stonard, Swamp of Sorrows. Alliance players can learn it from Kylanna Windwhisper at Feathermoon Stronghold in Feralas. Artisan Alchemy requires 200 Alchemy skill and character level 35.
Apprentice Alchemy has no character level requirement. Journeyman requires 50 Alchemy skill and level 10, Expert requires 125 Alchemy skill and level 20, and Artisan requires 200 Alchemy skill and level 35.
Healing potion crafting has been moved from Alchemy to First Aid in WoW Forever. Because of this change, older Classic Alchemy 1-300 routes that rely on healing potions cannot be followed unchanged in Forever.
There is no single cheapest recipe for Alchemy 290-300. Several higher-level recipes can provide skill points in this range, while WoW Forever also offers Major Frenzy Potion as an option. Compare recipe availability and reagent prices on your realm before committing to the final ten points.
Herbalism is the natural profession to pair with Alchemy because most Alchemy recipes require gathered herbs. Collecting your own herbs can significantly reduce the amount of gold spent buying leveling materials from the Auction House.
