Blizzard promised "over 600 new recipes" for WoW Forever, and the live game delivered more: 938 recipes that never existed in Classic, spread across six crafting professions, Cooking, First Aid and the gathering skills. Leatherworking alone got 271 of them, Blacksmithing 197 and Tailoring 180. Almost a third, 304 recipes, are sold for Merchant's Favor by the Azeroth Commerce Authority and its Horde counterpart, so the fastest way to new recipes is a supply contract rather than a dungeon drop.
The new recipes are not filler. Crafted items take first place in a third of all gear slots at level 20 and stay competitive through level 50, six healing potions moved from Alchemy to First Aid, six mail recipes moved from Blacksmithing to Leatherworking, and Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers and Tailors can make tier set pieces once the new raids open on December 9. About 295 recipes still have no known source two days after launch.
Below you will find the full count by profession and source, every recipe vendor with prices and reputation, the highlights of each profession, the recipes that changed hands, and what is worth crafting at levels 20, 30, 40 and 50.
WoW Forever has 938 new profession recipes as of the live launch build. That is every recipe in the Forever game client that does not exist in the Classic Era client, without the hidden rank entries that only raise your skill cap.
The number you see depends on where you look. Blizzard announced "over 600 new recipes" at BlizzCon, months before the beta added more. Community databases list anywhere from 884 to 968, because some count the gathering skill books, some count old items that got a new recipe spell, and some still run on beta data.
The table below splits the 938 recipes by profession and by how you learn them. "Unknown" means the recipe exists in the game, but nobody has found its vendor, drop or quest yet.
| Profession | New recipes | Merchant's Favor | Vendor | Drop | Quest | Trainer or automatic | Unknown source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leatherworking | 271 | 80 | 89 | 8 | 1 | 1 | 92 |
| Blacksmithing | 197 | 61 | 49 | 21 | 1 | 10 | 55 |
| Tailoring | 180 | 67 | 43 | 21 | 0 | 10 | 39 |
| Engineering | 77 | 28 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 40 |
| Alchemy | 72 | 29 | 2 | 13 | 0 | 13 | 15 |
| Enchanting | 63 | 33 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 21 |
| Cooking | 44 | 6 | 2 | 10 | 2 | 4 | 20 |
| First Aid | 17 | 0 | 1 | 4 | 0 | 6 | 6 |
| Fishing, Herbalism, Mining and Skinning | 17 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 9 | 7 |
| All professions | 938 | 304 | 192 | 84 | 4 | 59 | 295 |
A few recipes sit in two columns on Wowhead, for example a quest reward that a vendor also sells. Each one is counted once here, under the source most players will use.
New recipes come from five places: the Merchant's Favor vendors, a handful of reputation and gold vendors, mob and dungeon drops, a few quests, and the trainer. The Merchant's Favor vendors are the big one, so start there.
The Azeroth Commerce Authority camp at Three Corners in Redridge Mountains serves the Alliance. The Horde version, Durotar Supply and Logistics, stands just west of the Crossroads in The Barrens. Both camps sell the same 304 new recipes for the same prices in Merchant's Favor.
You need two things to buy them. Merchant's Favor comes from filled Waylaid Crates, while reputation comes from Craftsman's Writs. The price tells you the reputation gate: recipes at 30 or 45 Favor need no reputation, most recipes at 60 or 120 Favor need Friendly, and most at 90, 180 and higher need Honored.
Each profession has one vendor per faction. The table shows who sells what and the price range.
| Profession | Alliance vendor | Horde vendor | New recipes | Price in Merchant's Favor |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leatherworking | Daniel Stitchsong | Pawani | 80 | 30, 60 or 90 |
| Tailoring | Mivin Shadowweave | Jim'bek | 67 | 30, 60 or 90 |
| Blacksmithing | Stondry Darkhammer | Gor'mak | 61 | 30 to 120 |
| Enchanting | Alynsia | Beneris | 33 | 45 to 240 |
| Alchemy | Nina Surefire | Apothecary Durelle | 29 | 45 to 240 |
| Engineering | Fritz Fizzle | Fizzlefuse | 28 | 45 to 360 |
| Cooking | Kalsey Sanden | Aza'bek | 6 | 30 to 90 |
Most of these recipes are cheap. 105 cost 30 Favor, 53 cost 60 and 52 cost 90, while only 22 recipes cost 240 or more. Almost everything crafted from them is Bind on Pickup, so these are recipes for your own gear rather than for the Auction House.
We list every recipe with its exact price and reputation, and the fastest way to earn both currencies, in our WoW Forever Azeroth Commerce Authority reputation guide. If you need the Favor faster than crates drop, you can also buy WoW Forever Merchant's Favor.
Nine more vendors sell new recipes for gold or reputation tokens. Four of them stand in cities and leveling zones, five in Mount Hyjal and Silithus for level 60 crafters.
| Vendor | Where | Reputation | What they sell | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vayn Moongaze | Zephras Isle, the Skyborne starting zone | Nightclaw Druids, Friendly or Honored | 48 Azure and Cloudy Skyforged (Blacksmithing), Gustwoven and Windraveled (Leatherworking) and Stormsewn (Tailoring) recipes, skill 50 to 60 | 9s 50c or 11s at Friendly, 13s 15c at Honored |
| Archmage Alvareaux | Alterac Mountains, Alliance | Kirin Tor, Friendly | 8 Azure helm and shoulder recipes for Blacksmithing, Leatherworking and Tailoring, skill 175 | 9g 47s 36c each |
| Sutara Plainstalker | Mulgore, Horde | Earthen Ring, Friendly | 8 Cloudy helm and shoulder recipes for the same three professions, skill 175 | 10g each |
| Granny Finespindle | Ironforge, Alliance | None | 11 Leatherworking patterns: seven belts such as Pattern: Mender's Leather Belt and four boots such as Pattern: Moonglow Boots | 21s 05c per belt, 5s 26c per pair of boots |
| Pexmit | Mount Hyjal, a rare demon | None | Plans: Bold Dirk, Pattern: Tooled Leather Armor, Pattern: Supple Scorpid Vest, Pattern: Runecloth Cuffs, Schematic: Dimensional Transporter: Mt. Hyjal, Manual: Major Healing Potion | 10g each, the Manual 8g |
| Dala Fairmaw | Mount Hyjal | None | Pattern: Mooncloth Reagent Bag, Recipe: Sweetpaw Jam, Formula: Enchant Gloves - Lotus Claw | 10 Deadwood Tribal Beads each |
| Mishta | Silithus | Cenarion Circle, Friendly or Honored | 6 Tailoring patterns: Venomspew and Swarmtender's gloves, cords and footpads, skill 285 to 295 | about 7g 50s each |
| Vargus | Silithus | Cenarion Circle, Friendly or Honored | 6 Blacksmithing plans: Goregasher and Clutchlord's grips, supports and stompers, skill 285 to 295 | 7g 50s each |
| Aisarra Nightmeadow | Mount Hyjal | Guardians of Hyjal | 72 tier set recipes, skill 300 | 6 or 8 Malleable Essence of Nature |
Two city vendors also got new stock. Mahu in Thunder Bluff and Saenorion in Darnassus sell the new Forceful and Mystic armor kits, and Mahu adds the Linen and Woolen Reagent Bags.
84 new recipes drop from mobs, and most of them are rare. The potion recipes for early zones drop at 0.04% to 1.1%, for example Recipe: Minor Frenzy Potion from harpies in Teldrassil and Mulgore.
The Filigreed robes, leggings and circlets for Tailoring drop in the early dungeons: Ragefire Chasm, The Deadmines, Shadowfang Keep, Blackfathom Deeps and Razorfen Kraul. Every listed drop chance is below 0.35%, so Pattern: Filigreed Flame Gown and its siblings are worth checking on the Auction House.
Camp blueprints drop too. Every profession has a camp station at skill 140, such as the Anvil, the Spinning Wheel or the Tanning Rack, and for most of them the drop source is not mapped yet. The exception is Blueprint: Arcane Salvager for Enchanting, which drops at about 6.6% from enemies such as Rath'mael in the Ruins of Lordaeron.
295 new recipes have no confirmed source two days after launch, and 200 of them need skill 225 or more. They exist in the game files, but nobody has found the vendor, drop or quest for them yet.
Some of the most wanted recipes are on that list. Formula: Frozen Heart of the Mountain makes the trinket that ranks first for 19 of 27 specs at level 50. Recipe: Transmute Legionite makes Legionite Bar for 22 Blacksmithing and Engineering recipes, and the four Hyjal flasks such as Recipe: Flask of Natural Accuracy have no source either. We will update this section as the sources turn up.
Every profession got a different kind of update. Leatherworking and Tailoring got whole gear sets for each level bracket, Alchemy became a supplier of dyes, Cooking learned to speed up leveling, and First Aid took over healing potions. Below are the recipes in each profession that are worth learning first, with a link to our full leveling guide for each one.
Leatherworking got 271 new recipes, the most of any profession, and it now makes mail as well as leather. Besides six mail recipes moved from Blacksmithing, it has 24 new mail recipes in the Mender's, Skirmisher's, Skycaller's and Stalker's families.

We cover the leveling route, the herbs and the new transmute in our WoW Forever Alchemy guide.
Enchanting got 63 new recipes, but only 27 of them are enchants. The rest are staves, orbs, wands, trinkets, relics and camp items, which turns Enchanting into a real gear profession.

|---|---|---|---|
| Glimmering Staff, Soulstaff and Orb of Mystic Insight | 140 | 45 Merchant's Favor | Level 25 caster staves and an off-hand |

Cooking got 44 new recipes, and 35 of them share a bonus that old Classic food never had: 5% more experience from kills while you are well fed. That makes new food a leveling tool, not just a stat buff.

The full route, the fish recipes and the trainers are in our WoW Forever Cooking guide.
First Aid got 17 new recipes, and six of them are the standard healing potions that used to belong to Alchemy. They now also need spices, and the higher ranks need a Manual.
| Recipe | Skill | Source | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minor, Lesser and regular Healing Potion | Trainer | Trainer | The early potion route |
| Greater Healing Potion | 155 | Manual drop | The first potion behind a Manual |

| Toxin Study | 140 | Drop from Commander Springvale in Shadowfang Keep | First Aid camp station |
Our WoW Forever First Aid guide has both leveling routes, bandages and potions, from 1 to 300.
Thirteen familiar recipes changed profession in WoW Forever. If you learned one of them in Classic, it now belongs to someone else, and the materials changed with it.
The healing potions are the biggest change. All six standard ranks moved from Alchemy to First Aid and now need spices, so a First Aid player can carry both bandages and potions. The six mail recipes moved from Blacksmithing to Leatherworking and swapped Thorium and Arcanite Bars for Rugged Leather and Enchanted Leather.
| Recipe | Moved from | Now in | Skill | Where to learn it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minor Healing Potion, Lesser Healing Potion, Healing Potion | Alchemy | First Aid | Trainer | First Aid trainer |
| Greater Healing Potion | Alchemy | First Aid | 155 | Manual drop |
| Superior Healing Potion | Alchemy | First Aid | 215 | Source not known yet |
| Major Healing Potion | Alchemy | First Aid | 275 | Pexmit, Mount Hyjal, 8g |
| Wildthorn Mail | Blacksmithing | Leatherworking, Tribal | 245 | Drop |
| Heavy Timbermaw Belt | Blacksmithing | Leatherworking | 265 | Meilosh, Felwood, Honored with Timbermaw Hold, 2g 31s 57c |
| Storm Gauntlets | Blacksmithing | Leatherworking, Elemental | 270 | Magnus Frostwake, Western Plaguelands, 4g |
| Helm of the Great Chief | Blacksmithing | Leatherworking, Tribal | 290 | Drop |
| Heavy Timbermaw Boots | Blacksmithing | Leatherworking | 295 | Meilosh, Revered with Timbermaw Hold, 4g 21s 05c |
| Invulnerable Mail | Blacksmithing | Leatherworking, Elemental | 295 | Drop |
| Synthetic Gordok Ogre Suit | Leatherworking | Tailoring | Not listed | No recipe item, so it comes from a quest or a trainer. Not confirmed in game yet |
Alchemy did not lose healing completely. It keeps the Discolored Healing Potion line, which heals instantly and returns 75% of the amount as damage over time, so alchemists still have an emergency heal of their own.
Crafted gear is worth making in WoW Forever, especially early. We checked the best in slot lists for all 27 specs at levels 20, 30, 40 and 50. A crafted item takes first place in 125 of 378 slots at level 20, and 92 of those 125 are new Forever recipes.
The share drops in the middle levels and comes back at 50, when the 90 Merchant's Favor recipes open up. At level 60 the lists switch to raid and dungeon gear, and the only crafted picks left are old Classic recipes.
| Level | Slots where a crafted item ranks first | Of them, new Forever recipes |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | 125 of 378 | 92 |
| 30 | 87 of 378 | 73 |
| 40 | 84 of 378 | 41 |
| 50 | 92 of 378 | 69 |
The tables below list the new recipes that rank first for the most specs at each level. "Specs" is the number of the 27 specs that put the item first in its slot.

The old Ironfeather Shoulders and Dawn's Edge round out the level 50 list with 4 specs each.
Most of these items are Bind on Pickup, so you craft them for yourself or for a guildmate who brings the materials. Our WoW Forever gearing and progression guide shows how crafted gear fits next to dungeon drops and reputation rewards.
For the first time, crafters can make tier set pieces. Aisarra Nightmeadow, a level 63 elite of the Guardians of Hyjal in Mount Hyjal, sells 72 tier recipes at skill 300. She takes no gold: each recipe costs 6 or 8 Malleable Essence of Nature.
The recipes split between three professions by armor type.
| Profession | Tier recipes | Sets |
|---|---|---|
| Leatherworking | 36 | Four Grovekeeper sets for Druids, three Spiritcaller sets for Shamans, Wildstalker Armor for Hunters, Grimstitch Armor for Rogues |
| Blacksmithing | 20 | Justice Armor, Justice Battlegear and Justice Battleplate for Paladins, Battlegear of Glory and Battleplate of Glory for Warriors |
| Tailoring | 16 | Demonheart Raiment for Warlocks, Manaflare Regalia for Mages, Vestments of Conviction and Raiments of Conviction for Priests |
The crafted pieces are Bind on Equip, so a crafter can sell them, but every one carries "Unique-Equipped: Artisan's Tier (1)". At launch you can wear only one crafted tier piece at a time, and the rest of the set has to come from the raids. Datamined notes suggest that a higher standing with the Guardians of Hyjal raises the limit, but that is not confirmed yet.
Essence matters beyond the tier sets too: it goes into 97 new recipes in total, including level 60 epics and Enchanting relics. Expect strong demand for it once the raids open. We explain every class set and its bonuses in our WoW Forever tier sets guide.
WoW Forever adds a full line of reagent bags, from 6 to 20 slots. They hold only crafting materials, so every profession player wants one, and the early ones are among the few new crafts that sell on the Auction House.
Seven of them are Tailoring recipes and one is Leatherworking. The bigger bags need the new dyes from Alchemy, and the Bottomless bag needs 12 Mooncloth and 5 Pristine Leather.
| Bag | Slots | Profession and skill | Where to get the recipe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Linen Reagent Bag | 6 | Tailoring 5 | Vendors such as Darnall in Moonglade, Danielle Zipstitch in Duskwood and Mahu in Thunder Bluff, about 1s 50c |
| Light Leather Reagent Bag | 6 | Leatherworking 30 | Saenorion in Darnassus for 1s 57c, or a quest reward |
| Woolen Reagent Bag | 8 | Tailoring 70 | The same vendors as the Linen bag, about 2s 50c |
| Silk Reagent Bag | 10 | Tailoring 125 | Quest reward, also sold by a vendor |
| Mageweave Reagent Bag | 12 | Tailoring 190 | 60 Merchant's Favor |
| Runecloth Reagent Bag | 14 | Tailoring 215 | 60 Merchant's Favor |
| Mooncloth Reagent Bag | 18 | Tailoring 255 | Dala Fairmaw in Mount Hyjal, 10 Deadwood Tribal Beads |
| Bottomless Reagent Bag | 20 | Tailoring 300 | Not known yet |
Do not expect easy money from the small bags. On launch day one seller made 5 to 6 silver of profit per linen bag, and within eight hours the price fell to about 7 silver per bag as everyone crafted them. Every other bag in the game, from quest rewards to rare drops, is in our WoW Forever bag guide.
The new recipes run on a short list of materials, and most of them are either new to Forever or far more wanted than in Classic. If you gather or make one of these, you are supplying hundreds of recipes, which is where steady gold comes from in the first weeks.
| Material | Where it comes from | New recipes that use it | Main buyers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rune Thread | Trade supply vendors | 135 | Leatherworking 95, Tailoring 40 |
| Cerulean Dye | Alchemy, from the trainer | 129 | Tailoring 106 |
| Pristine Leather | A rare Skinning find | 125 | Leatherworking 79, Blacksmithing 30, Tailoring 16 |
| Malleable Essence of Nature | Disenchanting Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps loot, from December 9 | 97 | Leatherworking 42, Blacksmithing 27, Tailoring 21 |
| Magenta Dye | Alchemy, from the trainer | 63 | Tailoring 50, Enchanting 12 |
| Cured Rugged Hide | Leatherworking, from Rugged Hide | 52 | Leatherworking 51 |
| Fel Leather | A new leather in Forever | 52 | Leatherworking 52 |
| Sulfuric Acid | Alchemy, from the trainer | 45 | Blacksmithing 30 |
| Heavy Thorium Bar | Mining, smelted from Heavy Thorium Ore | 42 | Blacksmithing 37 |
| Sandpaper | Engineering, from the trainer | 27 | Blacksmithing 25 |
| Legionite Bar | Alchemy, Transmute: Legionite | 22 | Blacksmithing 17, Engineering 5 |
The three dyes together go into about 200 new recipes, which makes Alchemy the quiet winner of the update. A Tailor needs dyes for almost every new pattern, so an alchemist with a stack of Cerulean Dye has customers from day one. Our WoW Forever gold making guide covers the professions and farms that pay best right now.
The first weeks of a new server reward patience more than speed. These tips come from the first days on live realms and from what crafters learned on the beta.
These are the questions players ask most about the new recipes in the first days after launch.
938 by our count of the live game client: 271 in Leatherworking, 197 in Blacksmithing, 180 in Tailoring, 77 in Engineering, 72 in Alchemy, 63 in Enchanting, 44 in Cooking, 17 in First Aid and 17 across the gathering skills. Blizzard's "over 600" was announced before the beta added more.
Alliance players buy them at the Azeroth Commerce Authority camp at Three Corners in Redridge Mountains, Horde players at the Durotar Supply and Logistics camp west of the Crossroads in The Barrens. Each profession has its own vendor, and both camps sell the same 304 recipes.
Yes, while you level. A crafted item ranks first in a third of all slots at level 20 and in about a quarter of slots at levels 30 to 50, and most of the cheap ones cost only 30 Merchant's Favor. At level 60 raid and dungeon gear takes over.
Tailoring makes cloth, Leatherworking makes leather and now mail, and Blacksmithing makes mail and plate. Enchanting makes caster staves, wands, trinkets and relics, and Engineering makes goggles for every armor type.
The six standard Healing Potions moved to First Aid. Alchemy keeps the Discolored Healing Potion line, which heals instantly and then deals 75% of the healed amount back as poison or disease damage over time.
The damage is a poison or disease effect, so a dispel that removes it, such as a Paladin's Cleanse, stops the damage and you keep the full heal.
Not before December 9. The 72 tier recipes cost Malleable Essence of Nature, which comes only from disenchanting Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps loot, and both raids open that day. At launch you can wear one crafted tier piece at a time.
295 new recipes exist in the game, but nobody has found their vendor, drop or quest yet. Most need skill 225 or more, so players are only now reaching the content where they drop. We will add the sources here as they are confirmed.
