WoW Forever Dire Maul Guide

Updated 15 Oct 2026 | Author: Kir | ~10 min

Dire Maul is the ruined night elf city of Eldre'Thalas in the north of Feralas, split into three wings: East, West and North. It is one of the most popular level 60 dungeons in WoW Forever because of its short wings, its class books from the Shen'dralar library and the famous tribute run in the North wing, where you leave the ogre guards alive for a bigger chest at the end. The dungeon is tuned for levels 58 to 60, with the East wing as the easiest part.

Dire Maul is not open on the WoW Forever beta yet, so this guide covers the original version of the dungeon: how to get there, every quest, all bosses and the loot. The Forever database already shows changes, such as a reworked Arcanum of Rapidity that now speeds up ranged attacks and many crafting patterns that need less skill. We describe everything known so far and will add the rest after the November 4 launch.

Where Is Dire Maul and How to Get There

Dire Maul stands north of the High Wilderness in Feralas. Horde players fly to Camp Mojache, ride west along the main road and take the fork north to the ruins. Alliance players fly to Thalanaar on the border with Thousand Needles and ride west, or fly to Feathermoon Stronghold, cross the water to the east and follow the road up.

Dire Maul has three wings around an outdoor arena. The East wing is on the right as you enter from Feralas. The West wing is on the western side of the arena, and the North wing is on its northern side. The West and North wings need the Crescent Key, which drops from Pusillin in the East wing.

Dire Maul Quests

Dire Maul has fewer classic dungeon quests than Blackrock, but its library quests are unique. The quests to prioritize are Unfinished Gordok Business, which pays strong gloves, the class book quests that teach class abilities, and the libram quests that turn into head and leg enchants.

East Wing Quests

The East wing quests start in Feralas and Moonglade. Where the Forever data still hides a reward, the table shows the Classic one:

Quest Level Quest Giver Objective Reward

North Wing Quests

The North wing quests are tied to the tribute run:

Library Quests

The Shen'dralar library in the West wing holds two kinds of quests and one Mage quest:

What We Already Know About Dire Maul in WoW Forever

The Forever database already lists the dungeon with its loot and quests. Most quest rewards are still hidden, but several changes are visible.

Dire Maul Bosses and Strategy

Each wing is its own instance. The bosses below follow the usual order inside each wing.

Dire Maul East

Pusillin runs away when you talk to him and leads the group through the wing. Follow him to his last spot, kill his imps with area damage and interrupt his fire spells. He drops the Crescent Key and the Book of Incantations.

Lethtendris fights with her imp Pimgib. Kill the imp first, interrupt her Void Bolt and remove curses. She drops Felhide Cap, Quel'dorai Channeling Rod and Band of Vigor.

Hydrospawn splits off small water elementals. Either burn him and ignore them, or kill the adds with area damage first. He drops Tempest Talisman, Waterspout Boots and the Hydrospawn Essence.

Zevrim Thornhoof teleports a player and sacrifices them, so healers must heal that player quickly, and ranged players stay away from Intense Pain. He drops Fervent Helm, Helm of Awareness and Satyr's Bow.

Alzzin the Wildshaper changes forms during the fight, so the tank must take threat back after each change. Cleanse poison and disease in his satyr form, and kill the small adds that run out at 35% health. He drops Energized Chestplate, Energetic Rod and Fiendish Machete.

Dire Maul West

Tendris Warpwood is a giant treant whose Trample knocks down everyone in melee range. He drops Warpwood Binding, Tanglemoss Leggings and Stoneflower Staff.

Five crystal pylons guarded by elementals keep Immol'thar imprisoned. Destroy all five to open his cage. Immol'thar keeps summoning eyes around the room, so one ranged player is assigned to kill them. He drops Vigilance Charm, Eyestalk Cord and Odious Greaves.

Illyanna Ravenoak fights like a Hunter with her bear Ferra, and standing in melee range negates most of her abilities. Magister Kalendris fights like a Shadow Priest: interrupt, dispel and use Shadow Resistance. He drops Mindtap Talisman and Elder Magus Pendant. The rare Tsu'zee fights like a Rogue and hits hard.

Prince Tortheldrin hits fast and uses an Arcane Blast that knocks back and resets threat. Tank him in a corner and stop damage until the tank has him again. He drops Fluctuating Cloak, Silvermoon Leggings and Bracers of the Eclipse.

Dire Maul North

Guard Mol'dar, Guard Fengus and Guard Slip'kik are melee ogres with Knock Away and Shield Charge. Stomper Kreeg spits booze. Captain Kromcrush hits very hard, fears with Intimidating Shout and calls two reavers at half health. He drops Kromcrush's Chestplate and Monstrous Glaive.

King Gordok fights together with Cho'Rush the Observer. On a normal run, kill Cho'Rush first while the tank holds the King. King Gordok drops Leggings of Destruction, Harmonious Gauntlets and more.

The Tribute Run

A tribute run kills only King Gordok and leaves every guard and Cho'Rush the Observer alive. Use the Gordok Ogre Suit to walk past Captain Kromcrush, and repair the trap with a Thorium Widget and Frost Oil to freeze Guard Slip'kik. After the King dies, talk to Mizzle the Crafty: the more guards are alive, the better the tribute chest. It can hold items like Treant's Bane, Barrier Shield and Counterattack Lodestone, and every player gets a buff from the new king.

Best Dire Maul Loot for Each Role

Dire Maul is a key stop on the way to raids. These are the drops worth farming:

Tips for Dire Maul

These small things save the most time and the most wipes in Dire Maul:

  • Run the East wing first. Pusillin drops the Crescent Key you need for the other two wings.
  • Prepare a Gordok Ogre Suit, a Thorium Widget and Frost Oil before a tribute run.
  • Do not kill a single guard in the North wing if you want the full tribute chest.
  • Keep every class book and libram that drops. They are worth more as quests than as vendor items.
  • Assign a player to kill the eyes on Immol'thar and destroy every pylon first.
