WoW Forever Shaman Weapon Quest Guide
At level 30, every Shaman in WoW Forever can start a class quest chain that ends with a weapon built for their spec: Rage of the Storm for Enhancement, Lightning's Grasp for Elemental or Tidebringer's Claw for Restoration. The chain is new to Forever. It sends you into Razorfen Kraul for a note from Charlga Razorflank, across four zones on two continents for 20 Twisted Totems, into an elite fight at the steam pools of Thousand Needles and finally to Bath'rah the Windwatcher in Alterac Mountains, the same troll who forges the Warrior's Whirlwind Weapon. Most of the enemies on the way are level 35 to 42, so at the level 30 beta cap you will want a group for the last fight.
Below you will find the route for both factions, the exact mobs that drop each totem after the October 8 beta update, how the Thousand Needles event plays out, the stats of all three weapons and which one to take for your spec.
WoW Forever Shaman Weapon Quest at a Glance
The chain has five or six quests depending on your faction. They are listed at quest level 30 to 40, but all of them only require level 30, so you can start as soon as you hit the beta cap.

How to Start the Shaman Weapon Quest for Alliance and Horde
Both factions run the same story and get the same three weapons, but the contacts are different. Alliance Shamans pick up Call of Air from Eldrun Stormbreaker in Ironforge, who sends them to Veyric Thunderhame in Arathi Highlands. Veyric then hands out every step of the chain except the last one, so Alliance players keep coming back to Arathi.
Horde Shamans start with their own Call of Air, which leads to Prate Cloudseer in Thousand Needles. The Horde version of the chain has one extra step, Eyes on the Sky, and per beta data its quest records still mix up who gives and takes each step: Prate Cloudseer and Rau Cliffrunner at Freewind Post both appear. Follow the quest giver shown in your quest log rather than a fixed route.
The table below shows the order of the quests for each faction:
| Step | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Call of Air (Eldrun Stormbreaker to Veyric Thunderhame) | Call of Air (to Prate Cloudseer) |
| 2 | Elemental Aid | Elemental Aid |
| 3 | No extra step | Eyes on the Sky |
| 4 | Storm, Earth, and Fire | Storm, Earth, and Fire |
| 5 | Heed My Call | Heed My Call |
| 6 | The Tempest's Weapons | The Tempest's Weapons |
Elemental Aid: Tattered Note From Charlga Razorflank
Elemental Aid asks you to find out what the quilboar are planning. Accept it before you zone into Razorfen Kraul, kill Charlga Razorflank at the end of the dungeon and loot the Tattered Note. Make sure every Shaman in the group has the note in their bags before you leave. The Alliance version of the quest can be shared with other Shamans in the party; the Horde version cannot.
For the route to Charlga, every boss on the way and the other quests you can stack on the same run, see our WoW Forever Razorfen Kraul guide.
Storm, Earth, and Fire: Where to Farm All 20 Twisted Totems
Storm, Earth, and Fire is the long part of the chain. You need five totems of each element, and each element drops in its own zone: two in Kalimdor and two in the Eastern Kingdoms. These are quest items, so they only drop while the quest is in your log. Pick it up before you fly out, otherwise the kills on the way will not count.
The mobs are level 34 to 42, well above the level 30 cap. The table lists the ones that drop each totem and their level, so you can choose the camp you can handle:
| Totem | Zone | Mobs That Drop It | Mob Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| Twisted Water Totem | Dustwallow Marsh | Mirefin Murloc, Mirefin Puddlejumper, Mirefin Coastrunner, Mirefin Oracle and the other Mirefin murlocs on the northeast coast | 35-38 |
| Twisted Air Totem | Desolace | Maraudine Mauler, Maraudine Wrangler, Maraudine Windchaser, Maraudine Stormer and, since October 8, Maraudine Scout | 37-40 |
| Twisted Earth Totem | Swamp of Sorrows | Lost One Fisherman, Lost One Mudlurker, Lost One Muckdweller and other Lost Ones; rares Lost One Chieftain and, since October 8, Ongeku | 34-39 |
| Twisted Fire Totem | Badlands | Dustbelcher Brute, Dustbelcher Ogre, Dustbelcher Warrior and other Dustbelcher ogres; Stonevault Bonesnapper and other Stonevault troggs; Murdaloc | 35-42 |
The drop percentages on database sites look tiny, but they count every kill of these mobs, including players without the quest. With the quest active the totems drop far more often.
What the October 8 Beta Update Changed
The first testers spent hours on this step, so the October 8 beta build made it faster. The creatures for Storm, Earth, and Fire respawn more quickly and drop their totems more often. Maraudine Scout now drops Twisted Air Totem, Ongeku can drop a Twisted Earth Totem and Murdaloc can drop a Twisted Fire Totem. Twisted Fire Totem also drops from Dustbelcher ogres all across the Badlands. Large camps such as Dustbelch Grotto respawn faster, smaller camps do not.
Many videos recorded before the update tell you to skip Maraudine Scouts and Murdaloc. That advice is out of date: both now drop totems.
Tips for Farming Twisted Totems Faster
These habits save the most time on the totem farm:
- Plan the trip by continent. Do Dustwallow Marsh and Desolace together, then the Swamp of Sorrows and the Badlands, instead of crossing the sea twice.
- Join other Shamans on the same camp. Ask in General chat: groups for the totem farm fill fast, and a shared tag means nobody fights over respawns.
- In the Badlands, the Dustbelcher ogres are the easier target after October 8. The Stonevault troggs go up to level 41 and include elites.
- Check all four counters before you leave a zone. Twenty totems are not enough if one element is still at four.
- Expect world PvP. All four zones are contested, and every Shaman on the server is farming the same camps.
- Use Ghost Wolf between camps: the spread-out Maraudine and Lost One camps are where most of the time goes.
Heed My Call: How to Beat the Thousand Needles Event
When you hand in the totems, Heed My Call gives you Corrupted Totems, built from the twisted totems you collected. You place them at the steam pools in Thousand Needles, the only water in the canyon, and the quilboar answer with their elementals. The quest is marked elite and listed at level 40, and it is the one step of the chain where most players at level 30 need a group.
The event runs like this:
- Stand on the rune circle by the steam pools and use Corrupted Totems from your bags.
- Kill the waves of elementals. They come in pairs: two water, two air, two earth.
- Kill the final wave: an elite quilboar and the elite Ravaging Tempest (level 38-40). The elemental casts a big area nuke, so spread out and keep your health high.
- Loot the Eye of the Tempest from Ravaging Tempest.
Have every Shaman accept the quest before anyone uses the totems, and keep mana for the last wave: a Restoration Shaman or a second healer makes the elite pair much safer at level 30.
The Tempest's Weapons: Final Turn-In at Bath'rah
The last quest, The Tempest's Weapons, sends you with the Eye of the Tempest to Bath'rah the Windwatcher in Alterac Mountains, around 80.4, 66.8. He lives in the hills above Hillsbrad, the same spot Warriors visit for Whirlwind Weapon. Bath'rah turns the elemental core into your weapon, and you pick one of three rewards on the quest window.
Shaman Weapon Quest Rewards and Stats
All three weapons are item level 40, bind on pickup, and each one boosts a signature spell of one spec. That makes the choice simple: the weapon for your spec is the right one, and the stats show how big the jump is from a typical level 30 weapon. Values are from the current beta and can change before launch:
| Weapon | Type | Damage and Speed | Stats | Equip Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rage of the Storm | Two-hand mace | 91-137, speed 3.20 (35.6 DPS) | +15 Stamina, +12 Intellect | Stormstrike deals 10% more damage |
| Lightning's Grasp | Main-hand fist weapon | 28-52, speed 2.20 (18.2 DPS) | +6 Intellect | Up to +46 spell damage and healing; +1% crit chance on Lightning Bolt |
| Tidebringer's Claw | Main-hand fist weapon | 30-57, speed 2.40 (18.1 DPS) | +5 Stamina | Up to +86 healing and +28 spell damage; +2% crit chance on Healing Wave and Lesser Healing Wave |
Rage of the Storm has already been nerfed twice on the beta: its speed went from 3.60 to 3.30 and then to 3.20, and its Intellect dropped from 16 to 12. Videos recorded in the first week show the old numbers, so trust the tooltip in game.
Which Shaman Weapon Should You Choose?
Pick by the spec you play now and plan to keep. The tabs below explain what each weapon does for its spec:
Shaman Weapon by Spec
Enhancement: Rage of the Storm
Rage of the Storm is the reason most Shamans do this chain. A slow 3.20 two-hander gets the most out of Windfury Weapon procs, and the 10% bonus to Stormstrike adds to your biggest attack. It is the Shaman's answer to the Warrior's Whirlwind Axe: even after the beta nerfs it is the two-hander to carry an Enhancement Shaman from 30 deep into the 40s, and the Stormstrike bonus is something no other weapon at this level has.
Elemental: Lightning's Grasp
Lightning's Grasp gives up to +46 spell damage, the most of the three weapons, and +1% crit chance on Lightning Bolt, your main nuke. Its low melee DPS does not matter for a caster. Pair it with a shield or an off-hand with Intellect.
Restoration: Tidebringer's Claw
Tidebringer's Claw brings up to +86 healing and +2% crit chance on Healing Wave and Lesser Healing Wave, the two heals you cast most. For a dungeon healer it is the clear pick, and it pairs with the shield from the same quest if your faction gets one.
Elementalist's Guard and the Horde Reward
Besides the weapon, the Alliance quest also gives Elementalist's Guard, an item level 40 shield with 1078 Armor, 20 Block, +9 Stamina, +6 Intellect and 2 mana every 5 seconds. It fits Elemental and Restoration, but not Enhancement: you cannot hold it with the two-handed Rage of the Storm.
Per beta data, the Horde quest lists Rune of the Storm instead of the shield. That rune teaches Maelstrom Weapon and looks like a leftover from the older version of this quest, so the Horde bonus reward may still change. Check your reward window at Bath'rah before you count on the shield.

WoW Forever Shaman Weapon Quest FAQ
Quick answers to the questions players ask most about this chain:
What level do you need for the Shaman weapon quest in WoW Forever?
Level 30. Every quest in the chain requires level 30, even though they are listed at level 33 to 40. The mobs and the final event are level 35 to 42, so plan on a group.
Where does the Shaman weapon quest start?
With Call of Air, the level 30 Air Totem quest. Alliance Shamans get it from Eldrun Stormbreaker in Ironforge and continue with Veyric Thunderhame in Arathi Highlands. Horde Shamans are sent to Prate Cloudseer in Thousand Needles.
Where do I farm the Twisted Totems?
Twisted Water Totem from Mirefin murlocs in Dustwallow Marsh, Twisted Air Totem from Maraudine centaurs in Desolace, Twisted Earth Totem from the Lost Ones in the Swamp of Sorrows and Twisted Fire Totem from Dustbelcher ogres and Stonevault troggs in the Badlands. You need five of each.
Can I do Heed My Call solo?
Not comfortably at level 30. The last wave has two elites, including the level 38-40 Ravaging Tempest, and the elemental casts a large area nuke. Bring at least two or three players, ideally with a healer.
Does every Shaman in the group get the Eye of the Tempest?
Yes, since the October 8 beta build. The Eye of the Tempest is now multi-drop, so every Shaman with Heed My Call active can loot one from the same Ravaging Tempest.
Which weapon is best for Enhancement Shaman?
Rage of the Storm. It is a slow two-handed mace that works well with Windfury Weapon, and it increases Stormstrike damage by 10%.
Is the Shaman weapon quest worth it?
Yes. Like the Warrior's Whirlwind Axe, Rage of the Storm is the weapon an Enhancement Shaman builds the 30s around, and it is the only one at this level that boosts Stormstrike. The chain is long, so do it with a group. For Elemental and Restoration the fist weapons are a solid caster upgrade, and on Alliance the shield comes with it.
Can I take more than one weapon?
No. The final quest lets you pick one of the three, and all of them are bind on pickup, so choose the one for the spec you plan to play.
Do Horde Shamans get Elementalist's Guard?
Per beta data, only the Alliance quest lists Elementalist's Guard. The Horde quest shows Rune of the Storm instead, which looks like an outdated reward. Check the reward window in game.
