WoW Forever Rogue Weapon Quest Guide

Updated 30 Nov -0001 | Author: Sibop | ~13 min

The Rogue weapon quest in WoW Forever has no trainer and no quest giver. It starts with a letter from a stranger who signs only as "C", and it pays with the Ruby-Adorned Blade, a rare one-handed sword made for Forever. To earn it, you sneak into Scarlet Monastery alone, dressed as a Scarlet initiate, and steal a relic called the Eye of Bhossca from under the noses of the Crusade. The chain itself is the Rogue questline from Season of Discovery, so veterans will know the route. Forever adds the sword as the reward and moves the quest to level 25, with a quest level of 35.

Below we cover how to get C's letter and what has to be done first, where to find the Scarlet Initiate's Uniform, the full solo route through the Graveyard and the Library with the two traps that stop most Rogues, and whether the sword is worth the trip. Every other class gets its own quest around the same level, and we compare all of them in our WoW Forever class weapon quests overview.

Rogue Weapon Quest at a Glance

The chain is made of four quests that all start and end at the same chest near Pyrewood Village. You never talk to C in person: each new job and each payment arrives by mail, and only while you are in a major city. Here is what the whole chain looks like before you set out:

Detail Rogue Weapon Quest
Quest chain The Horn of Xelthos (two parts), then The Eye of Bhossca (two parts)
Required level 25 in the database; many Rogues on the beta only got the letter at level 30
Faction Alliance and Horde, Rogues only
Start and turn-in Dead Drop in a cabin beside Pyrewood Village, Silverpine Forest, at 47.1, 71.1
Disguise Scarlet Initiate's Uniform from the Supply Locker behind Scarlet Monastery, Tirisfal Glades, at 81.1, 32.1
Group Solo only; the quest cannot be shared
Bosses to kill None
Reward Ruby-Adorned Blade and 75 silver

How to Start: Letters From C and the Dead Drop

C hires you twice. The first job comes at level 20 and sends you into Shadowfang Keep; the second one is the weapon quest. Both are handled through the same dead drop, a chest inside a small cabin at the foot of the ramp up to Shadowfang Keep, just north of Pyrewood Village in Silverpine Forest.

First Job: The Horn of Xelthos

At level 20 a letter called "An Offer" reaches your mailbox in a capital and points you to the dead drop. The note inside starts The Horn of Xelthos: find the Horn of Xelthos in Shadowfang Keep and bring it back, alone. Once you return the Horn, C pays with the Pyrewood Signet Ring, a ring with +4 Agility, +4 Stamina and 0.4% chance to hit. Players on the beta report that the Eye of Bhossca never shows up for Rogues who skipped the Horn, so finish it first even if you are already well past level 20.

Second Job: The Eye of Bhossca

The weapon quest starts with a second letter, "Return Customer", that tells you the briefing waits "in the same dead drop as before". The database lists level 25 as the requirement, but many Rogues on the beta only received the letter at level 30, so plan for 30. The letter only arrives while you are in a major city, so if you hit the level out in the world, ride or hearth to a capital and wait a moment. The trade channel appearing in your chat is a good sign that the mail has arrived.

Open the Dead Drop to take The Eye of Bhossca. C wants the Eye from the Scarlet Monastery, insists that you go alone and advises you to find a disguise "on the monastery's grounds" first.

Horde Rogues have it easy: fly from Undercity to The Sepulcher and run south to Pyrewood. Alliance Rogues have the longest trip, usually a flight to Southshore and a run west through Hillsbrad Foothills into Silverpine Forest. Set your Hearthstone somewhere central, because you will cross between Silverpine, Tirisfal Glades and a capital several times.

Getting the Scarlet Disguise

The disguise is the heart of this quest. While you wear it, the Scarlet Crusade inside the monastery treats you as one of its own: monks and guards stay neutral and let you walk past, so you can reach the far end of a wing without a single pull. It is not invisibility, though, and it breaks easily.

The uniform waits in the stables behind Scarlet Monastery in Tirisfal Glades, at 81.1, 32.1. Open the Supply Locker there with Pick Lock; no enemies guard it. Bring Thieves' Tools, since you cannot pick the lock without them. The skill requirement was lowered to 1 in Forever, so any Rogue can open it. Inside is the Scarlet Initiate's Uniform.

The uniform is not used up when you put it on, so you can wear it again after it breaks. Learn what breaks it before you go in, because losing it in the middle of a room full of level 30 to 36 elites ends the attempt:

  • Entering Stealth. The disguise drops the moment you stealth, so don't stealth, step out and assume the Crusade still ignores you.
  • Leaving the instance. Put the uniform on again each time you walk into a wing.
  • Attacking anything or getting too close to an enemy for too long. Keep some distance and walk around patrols rather than through them.
  • Undead. The zombies and ghosts in the Graveyard see through the disguise, so you need Stealth there.

Sprint does not break the disguise, so use it freely on long corridors. Opening the letterbox and the reliquary for the quest doesn't break it either.

Infiltrating Scarlet Monastery Solo

The Eye sits in a locked reliquary in the Library, and the key to it is hidden in the Graveyard. That means four stops across two wings, and two of them in each. Between the wings you walk outside, where the Scarlet mobs attack a level 30 Rogue on sight, so stealth through the courtyard and only put the uniform on once you are inside. Each wing is its own instance, and you enter it alone, without a group.

Our WoW Forever Scarlet Monastery guide has maps of every wing if you want to learn the layout first.

Step 1: Pickpocket the Scryer's Key in the Graveyard

Enter the Graveyard, the left-hand wing, and put the uniform on. In the first large room, the Chamber of Atonement, look for a Scarlet Scryer and use Pick Pocket on it to get the Scryer's Key. If you only see torturers, check the hallway right after that room: the Scryers are easy to miss among the other Crusaders.

Step 2: Read the Confidential Message in the Library

Leave, stealth across the courtyard and enter the Library, the wing on the right. With the uniform on, walk almost to the end of the wing, to the Athenaeum, the long hall just before Arcanist Doan. A glowing Personal Letterbox stands in an alcove on the left. Open it with the Scryer's Key and take the Confidential Message.

Read the letter. Brother Seramus explains that the key to the reliquary lies in a stone coffer under the northern mausoleum in the Graveyard, and that you raise it by sitting on two benches.

Step 3: Sit on the Two Graveyard Benches

Go back to the Graveyard and make your way to the open-air graveyard at the end of the wing. This is where the undead live, and they ignore your uniform, so stealth from here on. Against the back walls, on the left and on the right side of the graveyard, two stone benches stand between a pair of statues each. Only those two benches work; the others nearby do nothing.

Sit on each with /sit or by pressing X. The benches have no interact icon, so don't wait for one. You can even sit while in Stealth. Each correct bench prints "You hear a faint click" in your chat, and you can stand up as soon as you see it. After the second one you get "You hear the sound of stone moving", which means the coffer has risen.

Step 4: Loot the Stone Coffer

The Stone Coffer rises inside the northern mausoleum, the first one on the right side. It holds the Reliquary Key, and it is the hardest point of the quest: a random undead stands guard over it, and in Forever it is very often an elite such as a Haunting Phantasm, level 32, while on a lucky run you get the normal Unfettered Spirit. You don't have to kill it. Pick one of these approaches:

  • Loot it through the wall. Stand outside the mausoleum against its side wall, turn the camera until you can see the coffer and press your interact key, which you can bind in the game's key bindings. The guard never notices you. Many Rogues on the beta used this trick.
  • Reset the instance. Walk out, reset the instance and come back until a non-elite guard spawns. The benches reset with the instance, so you will have to sit on both again.
  • Stun and grab. Pull the guard out of the room, land a five-point Kidney Shot, Sprint back and loot the coffer, which takes about five seconds to open, then Vanish. Gouge and Crippling Poison buy extra seconds.
  • Distract the guard away from the coffer, open it and slip out.

Recovering the Eye of Bhossca

With the Reliquary Key in your bags, head back to the Library and put the uniform on again. Past the hall of Houndmaster Loksey you reach the Gallery of Treasures; the Padlocked Reliquary stands in the first small room on the left. Open it to take the Eye of Bhossca. Once the Eye is in your bags, the uniform stops working, so you can't use it for anything else after this point.

The turn-in takes three trips, and it is the part players complain about most:

  1. Bring the Eye back to the Dead Drop near Pyrewood Village and place it in the chest. That completes The Eye of Bhossca.
  2. Travel to a major city. When you arrive, C sends a letter called "Payment". You don't need to open it.
  3. Return to the dead drop. A new note waits in the chest, and accepting it hands over the Ruby-Adorned Blade and 75 silver.

If your Hearthstone is set to a capital, use it right after the first turn-in, then fly back. On Horde the whole round trip is a few minutes through Undercity; on Alliance it is a long run, so combine it with other quests in Silverpine Forest and Hillsbrad Foothills.

Ruby-Adorned Blade Stats and Is It Worth It

The sword is a rare one-hander with fairly modest stats but high damage for its level. Players expected a bigger upgrade than the tooltip suggests, so here is what you actually get:

Stat Ruby-Adorned Blade
Quality and item level Rare, item level 36
Type One-Hand Sword, Binds when picked up, Rogue only
Damage 38-72, speed 2.30 (23.9 damage per second)
Stats +3 Agility, +8 Stamina
Equip effect None
Sell price 97 silver 92 copper

On damage alone it beats most one-handers a Rogue finds around level 30. Against the Outlaw Sabre, a 2.70-speed sword with the same 38-72 damage and +16 Attack Power, the blade gives 3.5 more damage per second but loses the Attack Power. Against a quest dagger such as the Serrated Raptor Claw it gains about 2.4 damage per second. The stats are the weak part: +3 Agility and +8 Stamina are low for item level 36.

Which Rogues Should Use It

How much you get out of it depends on your spec and the weapon you pair it with:

  • Combat. The best fit. Use it in the main hand, or pair it with another sword and keep the faster weapon in the off-hand.
  • Assassination and Subtlety. Your openers and Backstab need a dagger in the main hand, so the blade goes into the off-hand, where its 2.30 speed and high damage still add a lot to white damage and poison procs.

The quest has no dagger option, and that is the most common complaint about it. Even so, it costs no gold, needs no group and gives good experience, so every Rogue who reaches level 30 should pick it up. If you would rather skip the levels before it, our WoW Forever leveling service takes your Rogue there for you.

WoW Forever Rogue Weapon Quest FAQ

These are the questions Rogues ask most often about the Eye of Bhossca and the Ruby-Adorned Blade.

What level do you need for the Rogue weapon quest in WoW Forever?

The database lists level 25 for The Eye of Bhossca, down from level 30 in Season of Discovery. On the beta, though, many Rogues only got C's letter at level 30, so plan for 30. Most of the Scarlet Monastery mobs are level 30 to 36, which is another reason not to go earlier.

Why didn't I get the letter from C?

Check three things. First, finish The Horn of Xelthos, the level 20 job in Shadowfang Keep, because the second letter does not come without it. Second, be in a major city: the mail is only delivered there. Third, if you are level 25 to 29 and still have nothing, level to 30 and visit a city again.

Is the Rogue quest bugged in WoW Forever?

Most "bugs" come from how the quest is built. The letters and the reward only appear in a major city, the benches have no interact icon, and resetting the instance resets them too. The one real problem on the beta is the elite that often guards the Stone Coffer; looting the coffer through the wall or resetting until a normal guard spawns gets around it.

Can you do the Eye of Bhossca with a group?

No. The quest says "You must complete the job alone", it cannot be shared, and you enter the monastery on your own. A normal Scarlet Monastery run with your group won't progress it.

Do you still get the Rune of Shadowstep?

The database still lists the Rune of Shadowstep as a reward, left over from Season of Discovery, but Rogues on the Forever beta only received the sword and the silver. Don't count on Shadowstep from this quest.

Can you keep the Scarlet Initiate's Uniform after the quest?

You keep the item, but it stops working once you loot the Eye of Bhossca, so the disguise is only useful while the quest is in progress.

Can you get a dagger instead of the sword?

No. The Ruby-Adorned Blade is the only weapon reward, with no choice of item. Dagger Rogues use it in the off-hand.

Is the Ravenholdt questline also a Rogue weapon quest?

No. Forever also adds a new Rogue chain at Ravenholdt Manor in Alterac Mountains, with its own Syndicate disguise. It rewards silver and reputation, not a weapon, and has nothing to do with C or the Eye of Bhossca.
