Razorfen Downs is the capital of the quillboar in the southeast of The Barrens, taken over by the Scourge and the lich Amnennar the Coldbringer. It is a short dungeon of the late 30s in WoW Forever with a gong event, a ritual escort and one of the best quest rewards of the level range, the Vanquisher's Sword. The dungeon is tuned for levels 37 to 46.
Razorfen Downs is not open on the WoW Forever beta yet, so this guide covers the original version of the dungeon: how to get there, every quest, all six bosses and the loot. The Forever database already shows reworked items, like a Coldrage Dagger with almost twice the frost damage, and a new quest reward, the Cultist's Chestguard. We describe everything known so far and will add the rest after the November 4 launch.
Razorfen Downs sits at the southern edge of The Barrens, on the east side of the road just before the Great Lift to Thousand Needles. Its twin, Razorfen Kraul, is on the other side of the same road. Horde players fly to Camp Taurajo and ride south. Alliance players take the boat from Booty Bay to Ratchet or from Menethil Harbor to Theramore and ride south through the Barrens.
The instance portal is at the end of a short path through the thorns. Myriam Moonsinger stands right outside it with the first quest.
Razorfen Downs has six quests. Three are open to both factions, one is Alliance-only and two are Horde-only. The quests to prioritize are Bring the Light for Alliance and Bring the End for Horde: both send you to the last boss, Amnennar the Coldbringer, and pay the Vanquisher's Sword and the Amberglow Talisman.
Both factions start these three quests at the portal or inside the dungeon. Where the Forever data still hides a reward, the table shows the Classic one:
| Quest | Level | Quest Giver | Objective | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Host of Evil | 35, requires 28 | Myriam Moonsinger outside the portal | Kill eight Razorfen Battleguard, eight Razorfen Thornweaver and eight Death's Head Cultist | Experience and silver |
| Scourge of the Downs and Extinguishing the Idol | 37, requires 32 | Belnistrasz in a cell near the bone pile of Mordresh Fire Eye | Talk to him twice to finish the first quest, then protect him while he casts a ritual on the idol | Classic: Dragonclaw Ring |
A Host of Evil finishes on its own, because these mobs fill the first part of the dungeon. During the ritual of Belnistrasz, waves of quillboar and undead attack him, and an off-tank helps a lot.
The Alliance has one quest for the last boss:
| Quest | Level | Quest Giver | Objective | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bring the Light | 42, requires 39 | Archbishop Benedictus in the Cathedral of Light, Stormwind | Kill Amnennar the Coldbringer | Vanquisher's Sword and Amberglow Talisman |
The Horde quests both start in the Undercity:
| Quest | Level | Quest Giver | Objective | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bring the End | 42, requires 37 | Andrew Brownell in the Magic Quarter of the Undercity | Bring the Skull of the Coldbringer from Amnennar the Coldbringer | Vanquisher's Sword and Amberglow Talisman |
| An Unholy Alliance | 36, requires 28 | Varimathras in the Undercity, after the Small Scroll from Charlga Razorflank in Razorfen Kraul | Bring Ambassador Malcin's Head | Skullbreaker, Nail Spitter, Zealot's Robe or the new Cultist's Chestguard |
Ambassador Malcin walks outside the Razorfen Downs portal, not inside the dungeon.
The Forever database already lists the dungeon with its loot and quests. The bosses show no changes so far, and no new boss drops have appeared yet. Most items have new Forever stats, and several got stronger effects.
These items changed the most:
| Item | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Coldrage Dagger | Frost bolt for 20 to 30 damage | Frost bolt for 34 to 50 damage that slows the target, plus Frost Resistance |
| Glutton's Cleaver | Bleed for 50 damage over 30 seconds | Bleed for 70 damage over 7 seconds |
| Silky Spider Cape | Stamina and Spirit | Reduces the duration of movement impairing effects on you by 7% |
| Robes of the Lich | Intellect robe | Robe with 14 Frost and 14 Shadow spell damage |
| Mordresh's Lifeless Skull | Stamina and Spirit off-hand | Off-hand with 16 Shadow spell damage |
| Deathchill Armor | Mail chest with Spirit | Mail chest with Spell Power and Healing for Shamans |
Bonefingers became rare and now restore mana, and Glowing Eye of Mordresh swapped Spirit for Spell Power and Healing.
An Unholy Alliance adds a fourth reward, the Cultist's Chestguard, leather armor with Strength and Stamina. The old rewards became rare: Skullbreaker is now a caster mace with 42 Spell Power, and Zealot's Robe gained Spell Power. The Vanquisher's Sword lost a little Attack Power.
Razorfen Downs has six bosses, two of them optional. The Freezing Spirit mobs cast Frost Nova, so the group stacks on the tank during those pulls.
Tuten'kash comes out after a gong event. Ring the gong, kill the wave of spiders, then ring it again for the next wave. After the waves, the giant spider arrives. Tank him facing away from the group because of Web Spray, and remove Curse of Tuten'kash if you can. He drops Carapace of Tuten'kash, Silky Spider Cape and Arachnid Gloves.
Mordresh Fire Eye waits at a bone pile with skeletons dancing around it. Kill the skeleton packs one by one. The last pack pulls Mordresh with it, so use area damage. He casts Fireball and Fire Nova. Interrupt the fireballs and burn him: he has low armor. He drops Glowing Eye of Mordresh, Mordresh's Lifeless Skull and Deathmage Sash.
Glutton is a tank and spank fight. Stay out of his Disease Cloud and save healing for Enrage near the end. He drops Glutton's Cleaver and Fleshhide Shoulders.
Ragglesnout is a rare that does not always spawn. He uses Dominate Mind on a player, casts Shadow Bolt and heals himself with Heal. Interrupt the heals and the bolts, and be ready to fill in if the tank or healer is mind controlled. He drops Savage Boar's Guard, Boar Champion's Belt and X'caliboar.
Plaguemaw the Rotting is optional. His Putrid Stench and Withered Touch weaken the tank, so keep him on one target and burn him. He drops Swine Fists and Plaguerot Sprig.
Amnennar the Coldbringer is the last boss and the hardest fight. Tank him with his back to the tent so Amnennar's Wrath does not knock the tank around, and stack the group on the tank to make Frost Nova harmless. Interrupt Frostbolt. When he uses Summon Frost Spectres, switch to the spectres at once. He drops Coldrage Dagger, Icemetal Barbute, Deathchill Armor, Robes of the Lich and Bonefingers, and the Skull of the Coldbringer for Bring the End.
Razorfen Downs gives good upgrades in the late 30s. These are the drops worth staying for:
| Role | Best Items |
|---|---|
| Tank | Icemetal Barbute, Carapace of Tuten'kash, Savage Boar's Guard |
| Melee damage | Vanquisher's Sword, Coldrage Dagger, Glutton's Cleaver, X'caliboar |
| Caster damage | Robes of the Lich, Skullbreaker, Mordresh's Lifeless Skull, Deathmage Sash |
| Healer | Deathchill Armor, Glowing Eye of Mordresh, Bonefingers, Zealot's Robe |

The Vanquisher's Sword from Bring the Light or Bring the End. Both quests ask for the last boss, Amnennar the Coldbringer.
Ambassador Malcin walks outside the dungeon, around the area in front of the Razorfen Downs portal. His head completes An Unholy Alliance for the Horde.
Ring the gong in the spider room. Each ring calls a wave, and after the last wave Tuten'kash comes out.
