A WoW Forever druid gets six forms, and three of them are earned with class quests rather than bought from a trainer. Bear Form comes from a quest at level 10, Aquatic Form from a Moonglade quest at 16, and Cat Form, a trainer spell in Classic, is now a quest at level 20 that sends you into a barrow full of cat spirits. Travel Form at 30 and Dire Bear Form at 40 come from the trainer, and Moonkin Form is the 31-point Balance talent.
Forms also play differently than in Classic. Potions, weapon enchants, racials and doors work without leaving form, feral damage now follows your weapon, and classic powershifting is gone, replaced by Furor and the Shifting Power talent. The hotfixes of October 30 moved several feral talents again, and they are included here. Below you will find a table of every form, each quest step for Night Elf, Tauren and Skyborne druids, what you can do in each form, the shifting rules, form appearance and the snake form, and the tricks that make leveling in form faster.
Every form costs a share of your base mana to enter, and that share is the same as in Classic: 55% for the combat forms, 35% for Moonkin and 20% for the travel forms. The expensive part is the first cast, because leaving a form is free. The table sums up when each form arrives, how you get it and what it does for you.
| Form | Level | How you get it | Role | Mana cost | What it gives |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bear Form | 10 | Class quest: Body and Heart (Night Elf), Body and Heart (Tauren), Strength and Mercy (Skyborne) | Tank, AoE leveling | 55% of base mana | Rage, +180% armor from items, extra Attack Power and health |
| Aquatic Form | 16 | Class quest in Moonglade: Aquatic Form (Alliance), Aquatic Form (Horde) | Swimming | 20% of base mana | +50% swim speed, breathe underwater |
| Cat Form | 20 | Class quest chain in Moonglade, ending with To Darnassus or To Thunder Bluff | Melee DPS, solo leveling, stealth | 55% of base mana | Energy and combo points, Prowl |
| Travel Form | 30 | Druid trainer | Getting around | 20% of base mana | +40% movement speed, outdoors only |
| Dire Bear Form | 40 | Druid trainer | Tank | 55% of base mana | +360% armor from items, more Attack Power and health than Bear Form |
| Moonkin Form | 40 (31 Balance points) | Balance talent | Ranged caster DPS | 35% of base mana | +360% armor from items, 3% raid-wide crit aura, double Omen of Clarity procs, no healing spells |
No. Tree of Life is not in any Forever talent tree or on the trainer, and the Tree of Life spell in the game data belongs to Season of Discovery runes. Restoration druids heal in caster form. There is also no Flight Form, since nothing flies in Forever: the bird you may have seen is the Skyborne look of Travel Form.
Forms are only one part of the class. For the specs, the best races and every change Forever made to the druid, read our WoW Forever druid guide.
Bear Form is your first form and your safety net for the whole game. It runs on Rage, nearly triples the armor you get from items and turns the druid into a tank, but it is just as useful to a feral or balance player: when a pull goes wrong, shifting into bear and staying there is usually what keeps you alive. At level 40 the trainer upgrades it to Dire Bear Form, which doubles the armor bonus again.
The bear quest opens at level 10. Night Elves and Tauren travel through Moonglade, while Skyborne do it all on Zephras Isle. Every version ends with Bear Form, plus the bear abilities Maul, Growl and Demoralizing Roar.
| Step | Night Elf (Alliance) | Tauren (Horde) | Skyborne |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start | Heeding the Call from your trainer, sending you to Mathrengyl Bearwalker in Darnassus | Heeding the Call, sending you to Turak Runetotem in Thunder Bluff | The Great Ursera Spirit from Lotheluum Starbreeze, the Skyborne druid trainer |
| Spirit | Moonglade: cast Teleport: Moonglade, talk to Dendrite Starblaze, then Great Bear Spirit in northwestern Moonglade | Moonglade, then Great Bear Spirit at the Great Bear Spirit | Speak with Urs'endris near the falls northeast of Valanaar |
| Trial | Back to Darnassus, then Body and Heart: use Cenarion Moondust at the Moonkin Stone in a cave east of Auberdine in Darkshore and defeat Lunaclaw | Back to Thunder Bluff, then Body and Heart: use Cenarion Lunardust at the Moonkin Stone west of Camp Taurajo in The Barrens and defeat Lunaclaw | Strength and Mercy: find and kill Ur'endra in the Shen'dar Highlands |
| Reward | Bear Form from Mathrengyl Bearwalker | Bear Form from Turak Runetotem | Bear Form from Urs'endris, plus Nightclaw Druids reputation |
Lunaclaw is a level 12 moonkin with about 250 health, so a level 10 druid beats it with roots and a heal. The Moonkin Stone is where the Google searches for "moonkin stone location" lead: it is only part of this quest.
Bear abilities arrive steadily, and most of the useful ones are in place by level 16. These are the ranks you learn from the trainer, except the two talents at the end.
| Ability | Level | Cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maul | 10 | 15 Rage | Next melee swing hits harder |
| Growl | 10 | Free, 8 sec cooldown | Taunt (10 sec cooldown in Classic) |
| Demoralizing Roar | 10 | 10 Rage | Lowers enemy Attack Power, now as strong as Demoralizing Shout |
| Enrage | 12 | Free, 1 min cooldown | 10 Rage at once and 20 more over 10 sec, at the cost of armor |
| Bash | 14 | 10 Rage | 2 sec stun, 1 min cooldown |
| Swipe | 16 | 20 Rage | Hits up to 3 nearby enemies, now scales with Attack Power |
| Challenging Roar | 28 | 15 Rage | Area taunt for 6 sec, 10 min cooldown |
| Frenzied Regeneration | 36 | Free, 3 min cooldown | Turns up to 10 Rage a second into health, 1% of max health per Rage |
| Lacerate | Feral talent, 16 points | 15 Rage | Bleed that stacks 5 times, each stack adds 10% weapon damage |
| Primal Bite | Feral talent, 31 points | 20 Rage, 6 sec cooldown | 100% weapon damage plus 42, very high threat |
Forever's bear hits and holds threat much better than the Classic one. Since the September and October beta notes, Bear and Dire Bear Form give 50% bonus threat instead of 30%, critical strikes give 100% more Rage, and auto attacks deal the damage per second of your equipped weapon, so a better weapon makes a better bear. Swipe is still a bear-only ability that hits 3 targets, but it now gains more from Attack Power.
The October 30 hotfixes moved the feral talents again. Primal Bite, the Forever version of Mangle, is now the 31-point capstone with more damage, Lacerate became a 16-point talent instead of a level 42 trainer spell, and Berserk was removed. If you read a guide written before October 31, its bear talent advice is outdated. For the current trees, see our WoW Forever druid talents guide.
Dire Bear Form is not a separate playstyle. It replaces Bear Form on your bar at level 40, uses the same abilities and costs the same mana, but the numbers grow. The comparison below uses the tooltip values shown at level 60.
| Stat | Bear Form | Dire Bear Form |
|---|---|---|
| Level | 10 | 40 |
| Armor from items | +180% | +360% |
| Attack Power bonus | +120 | +210 |
| Health bonus | +180 | +1,560 |
| How you learn it | Class quest | Druid trainer |
Dire Bear at 40 lines up with the Primal Bite capstone at the same level, which is why many feral players say bear feels finished at 40.
Cat Form is the feral damage form and the fastest way to level a druid solo. It runs on Energy and combo points like a rogue, adds stealth with Prowl, and because you fight with Energy, your mana refills between fights while you are still killing things. In Forever you no longer buy it from the trainer at 20: it is the reward of a new class quest chain.
The cat chain opens at level 20 at your druid trainer and runs through Moonglade. It was added with the Forever class quests, so older Classic guides do not have it. The chain teaches Cat Form, Prowl, Claw, Shred and Rip at once.
Two things make the barrow much easier. Click the statue at the door for a blessing that hides you from the spirits for 5 minutes while you are out of combat, and if a spirit spots you anyway, shift into bear. The relics are shared loot, so a group of druids can all loot each relic. Keep clicking a relic until its cast bar fills. An October 16 hotfix fixed a beta bug that stopped druids from looting them.
The core cat kit is complete at 20, and the openers and finishers fill in up to the mid 30s. The table lists the first ranks.
| Ability | Level | Cost | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prowl | 20 | Free, 10 sec cooldown | Stealth at 40% reduced speed |
| Claw | 20 | 45 Energy | Combo point builder, damage raised in Forever |
| Shred | 20 | 60 Energy | Big builder from behind, now at 20 instead of 22 |
| Rip | 20 | 30 Energy | Bleed finisher, 12 sec |
| Rake | 24 | 40 Energy | Bleed builder, scales better with Attack Power |
| Dash | 26 | Free, 5 min cooldown | +50% speed for 15 sec, keeps Prowl |
| Cower | 28 | 20 Energy | Drops threat, twice as strong as in Classic |
| Ferocious Bite | 32 | 35 Energy | Damage finisher |
| Ravage | 32 | 60 Energy | Opener from stealth and behind |
| Track Humanoids | 32 | Free | Shows humanoids on the minimap, Cat Form only |
| Pounce | 36 | 50 Energy | Opener with a 2 sec stun |
The biggest change is that feral damage now follows your weapon. Cat Form's own Attack Power bonus dropped to 12 plus Agility, auto attacks deal your weapon's damage per second, and weapon-based abilities use those numbers, so feral druids care about two-handers and staves again. Weapon enchants, sharpening stones, Thistle Tea and Windfury Totem all work in Cat Form, and Cat Form no longer lowers your maximum health.
Tiger's Fury is gone. Its job went to Shifting Power, which turns 55% of base mana into 40 Energy and since October 30 has an 8 second cooldown as a 31-point Feral talent. Feral Swiftness now speeds up Cat Form indoors too, and Feral Charge gained a cat version that leaps behind your target on a 30 second cooldown. Leader of the Pack now gives 3% of every kind of critical strike to the raid. How Energy carries over between forms is explained in the shapeshifting section below.
The two travel forms cost only 20% of base mana and save you more time than any talent. Aquatic Form lets you swim 50% faster and breathe underwater from level 16, and Travel Form gives 40% movement speed outdoors from level 30, ten levels before anyone can ride a mount.
Aquatic Form comes from a short Moonglade chain at level 16. It is the same for both factions, except for where the two halves of the pendant are hidden. The final quest also lets you choose a reward: the Aquarius Belt or the new Idol of Shifting Tides, a relic that lowers the mana cost of every shapeshift by 40. Take the idol if you shift a lot.
Travel Form needs no quest: buy it from the trainer at 30. It gives 40% movement speed, less than a mount but ten levels earlier, and works only outdoors, so in caves and buildings fall back to Cat Form, which Feral Swiftness now speeds up indoors as well. Like every form, Travel Form breaks roots and snares when you enter it.
What the travel forms look like depends on your race. Night Elves, Tauren and Skyborne all run as a cheetah, while Skyborne also get a bird version of Travel Form. It stays on the ground, because nothing flies in Forever. Every race swims as the same sea lion in Aquatic Form.
Outside the five trainer and quest forms, a Forever druid has two more ways to change shape: the Balance talent Moonkin Form and the hidden snake look for Cat Form from the Embrace of the Viper set. The look of every form also depends on your race and can be changed at the barbershop.
Moonkin Form is the 31-point Balance capstone, so you reach it at level 40 at the earliest. It costs 35% of base mana, gives +360% armor from items and a 3% critical strike aura to every party and raid member within 45 yards. In Forever the form is more flexible than in Classic: you can cast every non-healing spell in it, not only Balance spells, and Omen of Clarity procs twice as often. Healing spells are still blocked. The aura is now raid-wide and no longer excludes Leader of the Pack, so a feral and a balance druid in the same raid both count. The October 15 beta notes limited the Moonkin aura to spell crit, while the current tooltip only says "Critical Strike chance", so treat it as a spell crit aura until Blizzard says otherwise.
Wear all five pieces of the Fang set from Wailing Caverns and your Cat Form turns into a serpent that slithers along the ground in Prowl. Its color depends on your race. Two to four pieces do nothing for your look, and the tooltip does not mention the transformation at all; it is a hidden effect of the full set. Blizzard designer Aidan Moon confirmed it is intended.
| Piece | Required level | Drops from | Drop chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Armor of the Fang | 18 | Lord Pythas | About 53% |
| Footpads of the Fang | 17 | Lord Serpentis | About 21% |
| Leggings of the Fang | 17 | Lord Cobrahn | About 19% |
| Belt of the Fang | 16 | Lady Anacondra | About 11% |
| Gloves of the Fang | 14 | Druid of the Fang (trash) | About 2.5% |
The full set also gives Dream Venom, a melee proc that stuns for 1 second. Transmog does not keep the snake: players who tested it report that the effect only works with the real set equipped. The farm, the drop rates and the open questions about the set are covered in our WoW Forever snake form guide.
Druid forms follow your race, so a Night Elf, a Tauren and a Skyborne druid look different in the same form. Skyborne get bird-like bear and cat forms with beaks and feathers, and their own bird version of Travel Form. Night Elf and Tauren forms come in two versions, the original low-poly models and newer HD models, and you switch between them in the barbershop, which in Forever also offers shapeshift customization: the colors of your bear and cat, and for Night Elves several Moonkin colors. Horde players find a barber in the Cleft of Shadow in Orgrimmar, Alliance players in Stormwind City.
Skyborne only have HD forms for now. Blizzard announced SD Skyborne models and SD druid forms for early 2027 and is reworking the HD Skyborne form textures in the meantime. If the look of your forms matters to you, compare them before you pick a race in our WoW Forever race tier list.
Entering a form costs mana, leaving it is free, and every shift frees you from roots, snares and Polymorph, just as in Classic. Two things lower the cost: the Restoration talent Natural Shapeshifter, 10% per rank for up to 30%, and the Idol of Shifting Tides from the aquatic quest, which takes 40 mana off every shift. What changed is how much you can do without leaving form at all.
Forever removed most of the reasons to drop out of form mid-fight. Per Blizzard's class notes and the beta updates, these now work while you are a bear or a cat:
Healing spells still need caster form, and Moonkin Form still blocks them.
Classic powershifting, leaving Cat Form and shifting back for a burst of Energy, does not work in Forever. Blizzard redesigned Furor on purpose and gave the burst to a talent instead. Since the October 30 hotfixes, Furor sits in the first row of the Feral tree, and at 5 points it does three things:
The burst lives in Shifting Power: one button that turns 55% of base mana into 40 Energy, with an 8 second cooldown since October 30. It needs no macro, but unlike powershifting it does not remove roots or snares, and it cannot be used at full Energy. Its mana cost drops with the same effects that lower shapeshift cost, and the Wolfshead Helm adds 5 Energy to it and 5 Rage to Enrage.
These tricks come from the beta and from the druids who leveled through it. Talents changed on October 30, so they are adjusted to the current trees.
Until you have Cat Form, the druid levels as a caster with a bear for emergencies. A few habits make those first 20 levels much faster.
Both work, and the best answer is to switch by situation. In one beta test at level 30, bear and cat killed single green and yellow mobs at almost the same speed, within about 2%. Pulling five green mobs at once in bear was about 23% faster per mob and gave about 50% more experience from mobs than fighting them one by one. So use bear and Swipe for "kill 10" quests on easy camps, and cat for single targets, stealth and anything dangerous.
In form, the default frame shows Rage or Energy and hides your mana, which you need for heals. You do not need an addon to fix it: open Options, search for "personal" and turn on the Personal Resource Display, then in Edit Mode hide its health and power bars so that only your druid mana stays. Keep heals, Bash, Hibernate, Nature's Grasp and Feral Charge in the same slots on every form bar, so you can see their cooldowns whatever form you are in.
Forms are easier with a few macros. In these, form 1 is Bear, form 2 is Aquatic, form 3 is Cat and form 4 is Travel on a druid who has learned them in that order; check yours with a /dump of GetShapeshiftForm() if a macro misbehaves.
One button for every travel situation: Aquatic Form in water, Travel Form outdoors, Cat Form indoors.

These guides go deeper into talents, leveling and the snake form.
These are the questions players ask most about druid forms in Forever.
Bear Form at 10, Aquatic Form at 16, Cat Form at 20, Travel Form at 30, and Dire Bear Form and Moonkin Form at 40. Bear, Aquatic and Cat Form come from class quests, Travel and Dire Bear Form from the trainer, and Moonkin Form is a talent.
It is a quest chain at level 20 now. Start at your druid trainer, speak with Dendrite Starblaze in Moonglade, find the Great Cat Spirit in southern Moonglade and bring back three relics from the Stormrage Barrow Dens. Skyborne do the same steps with the Avatar of Saeyleenan.
It is part of the bear quest Body and Heart. The Alliance stone is in a cave east of Auberdine in Darkshore, the Horde stone west of Camp Taurajo in The Barrens. Use your moondust on it to summon Lunaclaw.
No. Neither form exists in Forever: Restoration druids heal in caster form, and nothing flies.
Not the Classic way. Furor now keeps your Energy between forms instead of granting a burst, and the burst moved to the Shifting Power talent: 40 Energy for 55% of base mana on an 8 second cooldown.
40% faster than running, outdoors only, from level 30. Indoors, Cat Form with Feral Swiftness is the fastest option.
Yes. Almost all potions and similar consumables work in form without cancelling it, including mana potions, Rage Potion and Thistle Tea.
At the barbershop, which offers shapeshift colors for each race and the switch between the old and HD form models. Skyborne have HD forms only until the SD versions arrive in early 2027.
Equip all five pieces of the Fang set from Wailing Caverns, and your Cat Form becomes a serpent. Transmog does not work, so the real set has to stay on.
