Ragefire Chasm is the first dungeon for most Horde characters in WoW Forever, and it is far more rewarding than the version you remember. Every boss drop is now blue, Oggleflint and Bazzalan drop loot for the first time, and items like the Searing Dagger and Barbaric Crossbow have effects you will not find on other gear at this level. All four bosses can also drop new rare recipes for crafters.
The dungeon is tuned for levels 13 to 18. Below you will find how to reach it from both factions, the quests worth picking up, everything that changed in Forever, a strategy for each boss, the best loot for each role and tips for a smooth run.
Ragefire Chasm sits under Orgrimmar, and the entrance is a portal in the Cleft of Shadow. Horde players simply walk down into the Cleft and step through. Every mob inside is elite, so wait for the full group before you zone in.
For Alliance it is one of the hardest entrances in the game, because you have to get through the Horde capital. Take the boat to Ratchet, run north through The Barrens to the western gate of Orgrimmar and sneak or corpse run into the Cleft of Shadow. Most Alliance players skip it and run The Hall of Thanes under Ironforge, the new dungeon built for the same level range.
Ragefire Chasm has six quests, and all of them are Horde-only. The one to prioritize is Hidden Enemies from Thrall in Orgrimmar: it sends you after Bazzalan and Jergosh the Invoker and rewards one of four Orgrimmar weapons, which now carry better stats, with spell power on the Kris of Orgrimmar and the Staff of Orgrimmar. Returning the Lost Satchel now also offers the new Garrison Cuffs for mail wearers, and every quest reward in the dungeon is blue.
Every quest, where it starts and what it rewards is listed in our WoW Forever dungeon quests guide.
The layout, the four bosses and their order are the same as in Classic. The changes are almost all in the loot, which is why Ragefire Chasm is worth a run even for players who usually skip it.
The bosses use the same abilities as before, but a few of them now hit harder:
Taragaman the Hungerer keeps Uppercut and Fire Nova, and Oggleflint still uses Cleave. The dungeon itself pays more than before: since October 8 dungeon kills give about 20% more experience, and your own level now decides the experience you get in a group.
In Classic, Oggleflint and Bazzalan dropped nothing of their own. In Forever each of them has three new rare items, at around 2% each:
| Item | Boss | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Trogg Scepter | Oggleflint | Main-hand mace with Spirit and healing power |
| Bone Knuckles | Oggleflint | Fist weapon with 6 Attack Power and 6 more against Beasts |
| Barbaric Crossbow | Oggleflint | Crossbow with a chance on hit to wound the target for 14 Physical damage |
| Searing Dagger | Bazzalan | Main-hand dagger whose harmful spells sear the target for 7 Fire damage |
| Satyrskin Cloak | Bazzalan | Cloak with Stamina and Fire Resistance |
| Chasm Walkers | Bazzalan | Leather boots with Spirit and 4 Attack Power |
All four bosses can also drop new crafting recipes, such as Pattern: Filigreed Flame Gown, Pattern: Filigreed Shadow Gown and Pattern: Filigreed Pearly Gown for Tailoring and Pattern: Wisdom's Leather Gloves and Pattern: Stormrider's Leather Gloves for Leatherworking, plus glove plans for Blacksmithing. They are rare, but worth checking every corpse for.
The six Classic drops from Taragaman the Hungerer and Jergosh the Invoker are now blue, with more armor and better stats. These are the changes that matter:
| Item | Boss | What Changed |
|---|---|---|
| Cursed Felblade | Taragaman the Hungerer | Faster swing, and its proc now removes 24 Attack Power from the target instead of 15 |
| Subterranean Cape | Taragaman the Hungerer | Now restores 5 health every 5 seconds |
| Crystalline Cuffs | Taragaman the Hungerer | Stamina and more Spirit instead of Intellect |
| Robe of Evocation | Jergosh the Invoker | Gained Spirit and more Stamina |
| Chanting Blade | Jergosh the Invoker | Higher damage and more Agility and Stamina |
| Cavedweller Bracers | Jergosh the Invoker | Spirit instead of Stamina |
The quest weapons changed roles too. The Kris of Orgrimmar and Staff of Orgrimmar now carry spell power, and the Axe of Orgrimmar and Hammer of Orgrimmar hit much harder than before.
Ragefire Chasm has four bosses. None of them is difficult, but each has one detail that catches new groups.
Oggleflint waits in the first trogg cave with two adds. Crowd control one of them, let the tank pick up the other and face the boss away from the group because of Cleave. Kill the add first, then the boss. He drops the new Trogg Scepter, Bone Knuckles and Barbaric Crossbow.
Taragaman the Hungerer stands on a platform over the lava in the central chamber. The tank should pull him away from the edges so Uppercut does not knock anyone into the lava, and ranged players should stay at range to avoid most of Fire Nova. He drops Cursed Felblade, Crystalline Cuffs and Subterranean Cape, plus the heart for Slaying the Beast.
Jergosh the Invoker is in the middle of the last room with two adds that always join the fight. Crowd control one, kill the other, then turn to the boss. His Immolate and Curse of Weakness put pressure on the tank and healer, so dispel the curse if you can. He drops Robe of Evocation, Chanting Blade and Cavedweller Bracers.
Bazzalan waits up the ramp on the right side of the last room. One of his two adds can be pulled on its own; crowd control the other and focus the boss, because Sinister Strike and Deadly Poison put out a lot of single-target damage. He drops the new Searing Dagger, Satyrskin Cloak and Chasm Walkers.
Ragefire Chasm has an upgrade for almost every role at level 13 to 18. These are the drops worth staying for:
| Role | Best Items |
|---|---|
| Tank | Subterranean Cape, Cavedweller Bracers |
| Melee damage | Cursed Felblade, Chanting Blade, Bone Knuckles, Chasm Walkers |
| Ranged physical | Barbaric Crossbow |
| Caster damage | Searing Dagger, Robe of Evocation, Staff of Orgrimmar |
| Healer | Trogg Scepter, Kris of Orgrimmar, Crystalline Cuffs |

Yes, but the entrance is in Orgrimmar and all of its quests are Horde-only. Alliance players usually run The Hall of Thanes at the same level instead.
The weapon from Hidden Enemies. Casters and healers should take the Kris of Orgrimmar or the Staff of Orgrimmar, which now carry spell power.
Yes. Every boss drop is now blue, the quests give more experience than in Classic, and two bosses that used to drop nothing now have their own loot.
