Gnomeregan is the fallen gnome capital under Dun Morogh and one of the longest dungeons of the 30s in WoW Forever. Radiation, leper gnomes and runaway machines fill five wings, and the run ends with Mekgineer Thermaplugg, the gnome who flooded the city with radiation. Gnomeregan is tuned for levels 29 to 38, and it has quests for both factions: the Alliance gets a full chain in Tinker Town, and the Horde gets a free teleport to the front door.
Gnomeregan is not open on the WoW Forever beta yet, so this guide covers the original version of the dungeon: the route, every quest, all six bosses and the loot. Forever data already shows new rare drops, such as the Thermaplugg Medal of Honor and the Skullduggery Belt, and reworked items like a two times stronger Electrocutioner Leg against Mechanical targets. We describe everything that is already known and will add the rest after the November 4 launch.
Gnomeregan lies in the west of Dun Morogh, a short ride from Ironforge. Alliance players leave Ironforge through the front gate, follow the road west and climb the hill to the gnome city. Inside, an elevator takes you down to the Train Depot, where the instance portal waits. Leper gnomes and the Techbot roam the depot outside the instance, so the group should meet before the elevator.
Gnomeregan has two portals. The front entrance leads to the Clockwork Run and the first bosses. The back door on the north side of the Train Depot leads straight to the Engineering Labs, but it needs the Workshop Key, which drops from Electrocutioner 6000. Groups use it to come back for Crowd Pummeler 9-60 and Mekgineer Thermaplugg after a wipe.
Horde players have a shortcut. Sovik in Orgrimmar sends you to Scooty in Booty Bay, and Scooty hands you the Goblin Transponder. With it, the Booty Bay transporter beams you to Gnomeregan in one jump. Without the transponder, the trip is a long ride through Alliance territory from the Wetlands.
Gnomeregan has twelve quests, more than most dungeons. Five are Alliance-only, two are Horde-only, and the escort and the Sparklematic quests are open to both factions. Collect them before you travel: most start in Tinker Town, Kharanos, Orgrimmar and Booty Bay, not inside the dungeon.
The two quests to prioritize are The Grand Betrayal for Alliance and Rig Wars for Horde. Both pay the strongest reward of the dungeon, a choice of Civinad Robes, Triprunner Dungarees or Dual Reinforced Leggings.
Most Alliance quests start in Tinker Town, Ironforge, and several have short lead-ins:
| Quest | Level | Quest Giver | Objective | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Save Techbot's Brain! | 26, requires 20 | Tinkmaster Overspark in Tinker Town | Kill the Techbot in the Train Depot outside the instance portal and bring back Techbot's Memory Core | Experience and silver |
| Gnogaine | 27, requires 20 | Ozzie Togglevolt in Kharanos, after The Day After | Use the Empty Leaden Collection Phial on living Irradiated troggs | Experience |
| The Only Cure is More Green Glow | 30, requires 20 | Ozzie Togglevolt in Kharanos | Fill the Heavy Leaden Collection Phial on irradiated slimes, lurkers and horrors, then return within two hours | Experience |
| Gyrodrillmatic Excavationators | 30, requires 20 | Shoni the Shilent in the Dwarven District of Stormwind | Collect 24 Robo-mechanical Guts from the machines inside | Shoni's Disarming Tool, Shilly Mitts or the new Operator's Gloves |
| Essential Artificials | 30, requires 24 | Klockmort Spannerspan in Tinker Town, after Klockmort's Essentials | Collect 12 Essential Artificial from the Artificial Extrapolators in the Hall of Gears | Experience |
| Data Rescue | 30, requires 25 | Master Mechanic Castpipe in Tinker Town, after Castpipe's Task | Get the Prismatic Punch Card by using the White Punch Card, Yellow Punch Card, Blue Punch Card and Red Punch Card on the matrix punchographs inside | Repairman's Cape and Mechanic's Pipehammer |
| The Grand Betrayal | 35, requires 25 | High Tinker Mekkatorque in Tinker Town | Kill Mekgineer Thermaplugg | Civinad Robes, Triprunner Dungarees or Dual Reinforced Leggings |
Gnogaine only works on living targets, so use the phial before the group kills the pack. Save Techbot's Brain! takes a minute on the way in.
The Horde quests start in Orgrimmar and lead through Booty Bay:
| Quest | Level | Quest Giver | Objective | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rig Wars | 35, requires 25 | Nogg in the Valley of Honor, Orgrimmar | Bring the Rig Blueprints from the Engineering Labs and Thermaplugg's Safe Combination from Mekgineer Thermaplugg | Civinad Robes, Triprunner Dungarees or Dual Reinforced Leggings |
| Chief Engineer Scooty and Gnomer-gooooone! | Requires 20 | Sovik, next to Nogg in Orgrimmar | Talk to Scooty in Booty Bay and get the Goblin Transponder | Access to the Booty Bay transporter to Gnomeregan |
Pick up Rig Wars before you talk to Sovik.
These three quests start inside the dungeon or from its drops:
| Quest | Level | Quest Giver | Objective | Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A Fine Mess | 30, requires 20 | Kernobee in the Dormitory, past the Clean Room | Escort Kernobee to the Clockwork Run exit, then report to Scooty in Booty Bay | Fire-welded Bracers, Fairywing Mantle or the new Technician's Bracers |
| Grime-Encrusted Ring | 34, requires 28 | The Grime-Encrusted Ring from Dark Iron agents | Clean the ring in a Sparklematic 5200, then take it to Talvash del Kissel in Ironforge or Nogg in Orgrimmar | After a follow-up with a Silver Bar and a Moss Agate: Talvash's Gold Ring or Nogg's Gold Ring |
| The Sparklematic 5200! | 30, requires 25 | The Grime-Encrusted Object from trash | Insert the object and three silver into a Sparklematic 5200 in the Clean Room | Sparklematic-Wrapped Box |
The cleaned ring can also be kept as it is. Experience for The Sparklematic 5200! is paid only for the first turn-in, and the follow-up More Sparklematic Action can be repeated with every new object.
The Forever database already lists Gnomeregan with its bosses, loot and quests. The bosses and creatures show no changes so far, but most of the loot has new stats, several items have stronger effects, and a few new items have appeared. Everything below may still change before launch.
Two bosses already have new rare drops, each at around 1 to 2%:
| Item | Boss | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Skullduggery Belt | Grubbis | Leather belt with Attack Power that increases your effective stealth level by 1 |
| Irradiated Shield | Grubbis | Shield with Nature spell damage and Spirit, but 10 less Stamina |
| Thermaplugg Medal of Honor | Crowd Pummeler 9-60 | Necklace with Stamina, Spirit and Attack Power |
| Schematic: 9-60 Battery Pack | Crowd Pummeler 9-60 | New Engineering schematic, a very rare drop |
The Fluorescent Green Mechanostrider mount is also listed as Gnomeregan loot and now teaches an account-wide mount. Its exact source has not been confirmed yet.
Most Gnomeregan items received new stats in the Forever style, with Spell Power, Healing or Attack Power in place of spare Spirit. These items changed the most:
| Item | Classic | WoW Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Electrocutioner Leg | Blasts a target for 10 to 20 Nature damage | Blasts for 19 to 37 Nature damage, and Mechanical targets take double damage |
| Hydrocane | Allows underwater breathing | Spell Power 36, and underwater breath lasts 50% longer |
| Toxic Revenger | 5 Nature damage every 5 seconds | 14 Nature damage every 3 seconds to enemies around you |
| Royal Diplomatic Scepter | One-hand mace with low stats | Main-hand healing mace with up to 75 healing |
| Thermaplugg's Central Core | Reflects 35 to 65 Nature damage | Reflects 65 to 121 Nature damage |
| Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator | Lightning for 152 to 172 Nature damage | Lightning for 189 to 209 Nature damage, plus Spell Power |
| Petrolspill Leggings | Minus 10 Fire Resistance | Fire damage taken increased by 10% |
| Supercharger Battle Axe | 80 to 100 Nature damage on hit | 93 to 117 Nature damage on hit |
Several uncommon items became rare: Spidertank Oilrag, Gnomebot Operating Boots and Gyromatic Icemaker. The Manual Crowd Pummeler is now Unique.
Two quests got a new reward option. A Fine Mess adds the Technician's Bracers, leather bracers with Strength, Stamina and Intellect, and Gyrodrillmatic Excavationators adds the Operator's Gloves, leather gloves with Strength. Every old reward became rare quality, and Civinad Robes now carry Spell Power and Healing. The Dual Reinforced Leggings lost a lot of armor but gained Strength and Defense, which makes them a better leveling item for Warriors and Paladins.
Gnomeregan has six bosses, one of them a rare. The order below follows the usual route.
Grubbis is an optional event boss in the cave next to the Hall of Gears. Talk to Blastmaster Emi Shortfuse to start the event, then protect her from waves of troggs while she seals two caves with explosives. Grubbis arrives from the second cave together with his basilisk Chomper. Kill Chomper first, then tank Grubbis away from Emi. He drops Grubbis Paws and the new Skullduggery Belt and Irradiated Shield.
Viscous Fallout is a large ooze on the irradiated floor of the Hall of Gears. Clear the trash around him first so you can pull him alone. The fight itself is a tank and spank with Nature damage, and healers should keep poison cures ready. He drops Toxic Revenger, Acidic Walkers and Hydrocane.
Electrocutioner 6000 stands on the launch pad of the Launch Bay. He casts Chain Bolt and Megavolt and shocks the tank. Spread out to limit the chain damage and interrupt what you can. He drops Electrocutioner Leg, Electrocutioner Lagnut, Spidertank Oilrag and the Workshop Key for the back door.
Crowd Pummeler 9-60 waits on the upper ledge of the Engineering Labs. His Crowd Pummel and Trample hit everyone in melee range, so only the tank stands in front of him, and other melee players attack from behind with high health. Ranged players should stay at distance. He drops Manual Crowd Pummeler, Gnomebot Operating Boots and the new Thermaplugg Medal of Honor.
The Dark Iron Ambassador is a rare that does not always spawn. When he does, he patrols the tunnel on the way to the Tinkers' Court. He casts Fireball, shields himself with fire and summons a fire elemental with Summon Burning Servant, so kill the elemental quickly and interrupt his casts. He drops Glass Shooter, Royal Diplomatic Scepter and Emissary Cuffs.
Mekgineer Thermaplugg fights in the Tinkers' Court. During the encounter, six bomb dispensers release Walking Bomb adds that run toward the group and explode. Assign one or two players to the buttons on the right side of each dispenser to shut it down, and have the rest kill bombs that get through. The tank keeps him in the middle of the room, because Knock Away can throw the tank into the bombs. He drops Thermaplugg's Central Core, Thermaplugg's Left Arm, Charged Gear and Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator, and Thermaplugg's Safe Combination for Rig Wars.
Gnomeregan offers upgrades for every role in the low 30s. These are the drops worth staying for:
| Role | Best Items |
|---|---|
| Tank | Thermaplugg's Central Core, Dual Reinforced Leggings, Electrocutioner Lagnut |
| Melee damage | Electrocutioner Leg, Manual Crowd Pummeler, Thermaplugg Medal of Honor, Skullduggery Belt |
| Caster damage | Hydrocane, Electromagnetic Gigaflux Reactivator, Irradiated Shield, Civinad Robes |
| Healer | Royal Diplomatic Scepter, Civinad Robes, Spidertank Oilrag |
These small things save the most time and the most wipes in Gnomeregan:

These are the questions players ask most often about Gnomeregan.
Gnomeregan is tuned for levels 29 to 38. A group around level 31 to 33 can finish it comfortably and still get full experience from the quests.
Not yet. This guide covers the original version of the dungeon together with the changes already in the Forever database. We will update it after the November 4 launch.
