Classic+ is real now. Blizzard ended the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on World of Warcraft: Forever, the original game pitched as a permanent home, where the old world keeps growing instead of being left behind for the next expansion. The corners of the old map that never became adventures finally get their turn.
Getting in comes with its own questions. Part of Forever is covered by the subscription and part sits in paid editions, the beta keeps a calendar of its own, and one early choice quietly decides which friends you can group with. Past that lies the world itself, bigger than the one you remember and waiting for launch night.
WoW Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM PST. That is 6:00 PM EST and 23:00 UTC — midnight CET for Europe, right as November 4 turns into November 5, so EU players effectively start on the fifth. Plan the evening accordingly.
The beta opens on September 17 and runs through October 21, with characters capped at level 30. Early Name Reservation follows from October 27 to November 3: any of the three upgrade editions lets you create and customize up to three characters before launch. Fair warning: names are first-come, first-served.
Plan the name in two parts. Character creation in Forever asks for a full name made of a Main Name and a Secondary Name, and you have to fill in both. Forever has no realms, so names are unique per region rather than per server, and the second part is what leaves room for an original combination. Whether it shows up in the game world is a toggle in the settings panel.
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Beta opens | September 17, 2026 |
| Beta closes | October 21, 2026 |
| Invite-A-Friend codes emailed | From October 20, 2026 |
| Early Name Reservation | October 27 to November 3, 2026 |
| Launch | November 4, 2026, 3:00 PM PST |
| Invite-A-Friend launch week | November 4 to November 11, 2026 |
| Raids open | December 9, 2026 |
| Warcraft Forever Collection leaves the shop | January 11, 2027 |
Beta access comes with the Skyborne Epic Pack, the Warcraft Forever Collection and the physical Collector's Edition, which carries a Collection code and sends its Beta Access Code by email, limited to one redemption per WoW game account and unusable on an account that already has beta access. The $29.99 Heroic Pack does not include the beta. Skip it for early access.
There is one free route as well: the official WoW Forever site takes beta opt-ins for a chance at an invite.
Honestly, a level 30 cap means the beta covers the first half of the leveling game at most. The extra $30 over the Heroic Pack buys those five weeks, plus 30 days of game time and every other Epic-only reward in the editions list below.
Every upgrade edition includes Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes: one in the Heroic Pack, three in the Epic Pack and three in the Collection, delivered by email from October 20. A friend who redeems a code plays WoW Forever from November 4 through November 11 without a subscription or game time. Gift purchases carry none.
WoW Forever is a version of World of Warcraft developed by the Classic team and set in the very first year of the original game. It is built to stay there. It grew out of what the team learned from WoW Classic and Season of Discovery. Its story begins after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core, and instead of moving on to Outland it goes back to regions that existed on the map but never became adventures of their own.
It lives alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic rather than replacing either, and Blizzard pitched it on stage as a permanent home. Blizzard's own recap is explicit that it is not a mode, a season or a new version of Classic.
Four core pillars guide it: approachable and familiar, the world as the main character, the journey before the destination, and protecting the social experiences that make Azeroth feel alive. The design rules follow from them:
Nothing is off the table long term, not even new classes. For what it's worth, Blizzard has already scheduled two major updates for spring and summer 2027, so "forever" comes with a calendar.
WoW Forever itself costs nothing on top of your subscription. Access is included with World of Warcraft subscription or game time from November 4, so the three editions on the Battle.net Shop are upgrades, and all of them are available to pre-purchase now.
The new race is the catch. The Skyborne and their Zephras Isle starting experience need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition, which makes $29.99 the entry price for the race. Everything else in the base game is yours with the subscription.
The three editions stack. Each one holds everything from the edition below it and adds its own rewards on top:
A few details the list skips. The 30 days of game time in the Epic Pack and the Collection are added starting November 4, not on the day you buy. The Veteran Adventurer's bear mount and transmog set work in both WoW Forever and modern WoW, while the pets go to your WoW Forever collection. Every decor item is for player housing in modern WoW, and housing needs World of Warcraft: Midnight. The Cerulean Prideclaw is a ground mount, and you need to buy the riding skill in game before you can use it. None of the in-game items work in WoW Classic, and some benefits, the Skyborne unlock and Early Name Reservation among them, apply only to the WoW account the pack was bought for.
The Warcraft Forever Collection is a limited-time bundle, on sale until January 11, 2027. Its extra value is Warcraft III: Reforged plus the new Forsaken Kingdom campaign, which covers the fall of Lordaeron, the founding of the Undercity and the first Forsaken Paladin. WoW Forever picks up right after it. The campaign is a prologue plus three chapters, with a neutral Forsaken Paladin hero unit. Bought on its own, it needs Warcraft III: Reforged to run, and a Forsaken Kingdom combo bundles both for new players.
The physical Collector's Edition costs $150 in the US Blizzard Gear Store and €150 in the EU store, and it ships in November 2026. The EU store lists International English, German and French versions at the same €150, and the box is sold while supplies last. It includes a Warcraft Forever Collection digital code, so every Collection reward listed above, the beta and 30 days of game time come with the box. The physical part:
Shipping has a standard €45 rate in 27 European countries, Germany, France and the United Kingdom among them, as long as the cart holds only one Collector's Edition. Australia and New Zealand buy it through participating regional retailers instead.
If you buy a digital edition now and the box later, some digital purchases qualify for a Battle.net Balance credit equal to the amount paid once the Collector's Edition code is redeemed by December 31, 2027. Some credits apply automatically, others need Blizzard Customer Support, and not every product or upgrade path qualifies.
Player Housing Guide
There is no realm list in WoW Forever. The game is realmless: instead of a server, you pick a ruleset, and each ruleset works more like its own large ecosystem than a single traditional realm. It is not one giant realm for everyone either.
| Ruleset | How it plays | Available |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Adventuring and fighting monsters; you fight other players at your own discretion | At launch |
| PvP | You are almost always at risk of being attacked by opposing players | At launch |
| Roleplay | Strict naming conventions and behavior rules for players who want to play a character | At launch |
| Hardcore | Permanent character death; dead characters may transfer to other rulesets to be resurrected | After launch |
Pick the ruleset with your friends in mind — it decides who you can play with. Grouping, dungeons and raids work only with players who chose the same ruleset, cross-ruleset grouping is not supported, and Horde and Alliance still cannot group together. Each ruleset also keeps its own mail, Auction House and open world.
Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide across rulesets, with Hardcore as the exception. It stays a fully enclosed ecosystem: what you earn there can become available on the other rulesets, but nothing flows back in, and a Hardcore character that dies can transfer to another ruleset, PvP included.
Language and faction balance get their own tools. The Preferred Online Language option, under Languages and Social in the game options, applies to every character on your account in that region, carries a one-day cooldown on changes, and puts you around players who share the language; the menu Blizzard showed listed English, LatAm Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. On the PvP ruleset, Forever adds systems to support Horde and Alliance balance, similar to the approach introduced in Season of Discovery.
Blizzard's 2026-2027 plan for Forever covers four seasons. Launch is only the autumn part: raids open in winter, and two major updates follow in spring and summer 2027.
| Season | When | What arrives |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn | September 17 to October 21 | Beta, playable up to level 30 |
| Autumn | October 27 | Early Name Reservation and character creation |
| Autumn | November 4 | Launch |
| Winter | December 9 | Raids open: Barrow Deeps (10-player), Hyjal Summit (20-player), Onyxia's Lair (40-player) |
| Spring | Major update | 2 new raids (10 and 20 player), 2 new dungeons, new quests and playable area, new legendary questline, PvP season refresh |
| Summer | Major update | Revamped iconic raid, new raid, expanded world content, 2 new dungeons, PvP season refresh, professions and Legacy updates |
Hardcore is not on the slide. Blizzard's written recap lists it among the updates that come after the December 9 raid unlock, next to a revamped iconic raid, with no date attached. The Deep Dive confirmed it as the fourth ruleset, arriving after launch.
The Skyborne are WoW Forever's new playable race: elves from Zephras Isle, a Highborne civilization tied to Skywall whose wind spirits are gone and whose people are divided. They are open to both factions — but the faction is picked at character creation, and after that they are not a neutral race. Their class list depends on that pick:
| Faction | Classes |
|---|---|
| Both factions | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid |
| Horde only | Shaman |
| Alliance only | Mage |
Horde Skyborne join the Windshaper and Alliance Skyborne the High Order, both fighting to defend a once-secluded floating island that now faces an existential threat. On the class side, Horde Skyborne tap into the power of the elements as Shamans, while Alliance Skyborne follow the Kirin Tor and become Mages.
Skyborne characters begin on Zephras Isle, a new starting experience for levels 1 to 12.
The race has five racials split by faction, sky-blue druid forms, a lore story that starts with rebels who fled Eldre'Thalas, and a Heroic Pack full of Skyborne cosmetics — our Skyborne guide walks through all of it.
WoW Forever Skyborne Race Guide
Forever adds six new class-and-race combinations:
| Race | New class |
|---|---|
| Gnome | Priest |
| Human | Hunter |
| Dwarf | Shaman |
| Orc | Mage |
| Troll | Warlock |
| Undead | Paladin |
The Undead Paladin was shown in the cinematic trailer, and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign gives it an origin story. The Skyborne bring their own class list on top of these six, more combinations are planned for future updates, and every class and specialization gets a revamp.
Combat keeps the Classic pace. Blizzard's benchmark for a solo player is roughly 10 to 15 seconds to defeat an ordinary creature, and dungeons stay tactical: when a pull holds more enemies than a tank can safely control, Polymorph, Banish, Fear and Root still have a job, and damage dealers still have to respect threat. The stated goal is for each class to stay distinct, with its own strengths and weaknesses.
Paladins are the one class Blizzard has walked through in full. Seal of Fury turns them into tanks, Judgement taunts from 10 yards, Holy Shock moves down to the 21-point slot, and Forsaken Paladins get a class story of their own at Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal Glades, with a level 60 epic mount quest at the end of it.
The rest touches every class. Every race now has two active and two passive racials, the talent trees gain a new one-point milestone at 16 points, and buff talents such as Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild are now baseline. Itemization merges spell, melee and ranged hit into one stat, does the same for critical chance, and gives bonus healing one third as much bonus damage.
Our class changes guide has the full Paladin kit with every tooltip, the racial tables for all nine races, the Priest racial spells and every itemization change shown so far.
WoW Forever Class Changes GuideFour new regions ship at launch. Three of them are on the trailer's New Zones card (Mount Hyjal, the Riverglades and Zephras Isle), while the fourth, Shen'dralas, turns ruins you may have flown over between Mulgore and Desolace into a zone of its own. Expanded original zones fill in the rest of the map, and the over 1,000 new quests are spread across the entire 1-60 range.
Mount Hyjal is a new endgame leveling zone set in the aftermath of victory over Archimonde, with solo and group content including new reputations, quests and rewards. You journey through Darkwhisper Gorge and help shape the future of a recovering land. It is also home to the Hyjal Summit raid and holds one of the three entrances to the Barrow Deeps.
Shen'dralas sits between Desolace, Mulgore and Feralas. Its story follows the Shen'dralar, the faction of night elves remaining in Dire Maul, ties into Eldre'Thalas and continues the war between the centaur tribes.
It also hands you new reasons to go back into Maraudon and Razorfen Downs.
The Riverglades is a new leveling zone for the mid-30s to mid-40s, set in the Eastern Kingdoms between the Burning Steppes, Swamp of Sorrows and Redridge Mountains. It is a frontier of grasslands and trade routes, with ogres and gnolls along the roads and a neutral goblin port with expanded travel routes. Both factions quest here. More than 150 new quests and new reputations come with it.
Its dungeon, Krol'dok Stronghold, is an outdoor ogre stronghold for levels 40 to 55, and a welcome alternative for anyone who would rather not run Scarlet Monastery a few hundred more times.
Zephras Isle is the Skyborne starting zone for levels 1 to 12. It pairs Classic art with Skywall architecture. Since it comes with the race, playing it needs the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition.
The Classic art style stays. What changes is the rendering, with new lighting and global illumination, volumetric particle effects, a new water renderer and real-time shadows added on top of the original look. On screen, that means rivers flowing through Elwynn Forest, mist over the waters of Darkshore and moonlight breaking through the trees of Ashenvale.
Nine new dungeons and two new raids arrive with WoW Forever. The headline is Dalaran, the walled-off city of the original game: the Kirin Tor's barrier is down, enchantments are backfiring, and inside the dungeon there is a whole city to explore.
| Dungeon | Location | Levels | What is inside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hall of Thanes | Beneath Ironforge in Dun Morogh | 13-18 | Alliance-centric; dwarven burial hall broken into |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | Lordaeron | 15-20 | Horde-centric; Forsaken vs Scourge and a necromancer |
| Excavation Site | Above Whelgar's Excavation in the Wetlands | 24-29 | Explorers' League dig; titan constructs |
| City of Dalaran | Alterac Mountains | Around 28-30 | Kirin Tor barrier is down |
| The Drowned City | Off the Stranglethorn Vale coast | 35-40 | Trolls, naga, crashed pirate ship |
| Krol'dok Stronghold | The Riverglades | 40-55 | Outdoor ogre dungeon |
| Alcaz Prison | Alcaz Island | 48-53 | Defias and naga fighting inside |
| Blackmaw Hold | Behind the gate in Azshara | 55-60 | Furbolg city; corruption in its depths; tunnels lead to the Barrow Deeps |
| Shaper's Terrace | Un'Goro Crater | 58-60 | Titan facility with power crystals |
Two of them pick a side. Hall of Thanes is the Alliance's, the Ruins of Lordaeron belong to the Horde, and in both cases the other side can still find a way in. The Drowned City is the one BlizzCon visitors could already play on the show floor.
Raids open on December 9, five weeks after launch, and three of them open at once:
| Raid | Size | Opens |
|---|---|---|
| The Barrow Deeps | 10-player | December 9, 2026 |
| Hyjal Summit | 20-player | December 9, 2026 |
| Onyxia's Lair | 40-player | December 9, 2026 |
The Barrow Deeps is a maximum-level, 10-player raid in the night elves' prison for their most dangerous captives, and rumor has it an infamous demon hunter was once kept there. Three entrances lead in. One is on Mount Hyjal, and the tunnels of Blackmaw Hold connect to the raid as well. Hyjal Summit asks for 20 players against something draining the power from the land, and between them the two raids bring new tier sets and a legendary reward.
Beyond new content, Forever adds a camping system, a leveling meta-system and a set of toggles that let each player decide how the game looks. Riding follows the Burning Crusade model: the up-front mount cost moves into training, and learning the riding skill grants a mount. Honor gets updates too, and the panel also listed an updated PvP system, a new legendary and gamepad support.
The Legacy system rewards the 1-60 leveling run itself: goals hit on each new run earn Legacy Points and account-wide benefits, with challenge categories for Classes, Tradeskills, PvP, Adventure, Dungeons and Raids. It grew out of Hardcore, where the team loved seeing so many players constantly leveling, and keeps that energy without Hardcore's deadly consequences. Alt lovers benefit most.
It works in three panels. Legacy Challenges look like achievements and earn the points, with goals such as leveling a specific class or reaching a skill milestone. The Legacy Trees turn the points into perks, and the Progress Track hands out collectibles you claim from NPCs.
Spending is the part to get right. Legacy Points are shared across all your alts, but each character spends them separately in its own trees, so every alt builds the perks that suit it. At launch a character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points, while the account can earn up to 65 at the start; the cap is there so nobody feels pressured to do everything at once and new players do not fall too far behind.
The trees start with three: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. Well Rested in Adventure raises rested experience gains and the rested cap for alts, Bountiful Harvest in Professions increases the materials gathered from Mining, Herbalism or Skinning, and Reagent Economy, deeper in Resourcefulness, removes vendor reagents from class abilities. The BlizzCon demo and the panel slides show these perks:
| Tree | Perk | Ranks | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Professions | Working Overtime | 5 | Increases your chance to gain a skill increase from using any primary, secondary, or class-based tradeskill by 4% |
| Professions | Performance Bonus | 5 | 5% chance to receive 100% increased Merchant Favor when you turn in a crate to the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics |
| Professions | Luremaster | 5 | While fishing with a lure active, 25% chance to catch an extra fish |
| Professions | Master Chef | 5 | Your cooking recipes have a 10% chance to create an extra result |
| Professions | Dedicated Study | 5 | 25 sec cast, 23 hour cooldown: increases your skill by 1 in your lowest Primary or Secondary tradeskill; at 300 in both Primary and all three Secondary tradeskills, gives 2 to 4 of a random Elemental Essence instead |
| Adventure | Well Rested | 5 | Rested experience accumulates 4% faster and your rested experience cap is increased by 4% |
| Adventure | Talented | 5 | Talent points start at level 9 instead of level 10, still with no more than 51 total talent points |
| Adventure | High Alert | 2 | Detect nearby targets with Stealth as if your level were increased by 1; ineffective in battlegrounds |
| Adventure | Thrill of Adventure | 5 | 1% of your maximum Health and Mana over 10 sec each time you deliver the killing blow to a non-trivial enemy; ineffective in dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds |
| Resourcefulness | The Quick and the Dead | 2 | Movement speed while dead increased by 5%; helpful spells and abilities cost no resources for 1 min after being resurrected or until you enter combat |
| Resourcefulness | Reinforce | 5 | You take 6% less durability loss when you die |
| Resourcefulness | Diplomat | 5 | Increases your reputation gains by 2% |
| Resourcefulness | For Great Honor | 5 | Increases Honor Points gained by 2% |
| Resourcefulness | Permanence | 2 | Long-duration party and raid buffs from your class abilities last 50% longer, and so do the benefits you gain from resting at a camp |
| Resourcefulness | Reagent Economy | 1 | Your class abilities no longer require reagents bought from vendors, and your Tier 1 camping features cost no reagents to craft |
Points keep counting after you hit the spending cap. The running total fills the Legacy Reward Track, called the Progress Track in the game window, and it unlocks cosmetic and prestige rewards without a competitive gameplay advantage. The demo track held four:
| Legacy Points | Reward |
|---|---|
| 15 | Replica Ironforge Air Rifle, which fires stunning shots at other players |
| 25 | Spectral Bear Cub pet |
| 40 | Spectral Bear Tabard |
| 55 | Reins of the Spectral Bear mount |
Transmog is in, but entirely opt-in. Choose Classic Mode when you first launch the game and transmog starts disabled; a transmogrifier in certain cities lets you configure outfits or disable the system entirely. With it off, you see other players in the gear they actually wear, and you keep collecting appearances from new gear in case you want transmog later.
The collection rules lean Classic:
Helm and cloak hiding work both ways. With the system off you can still set your own transmog to hide those slots, and you still see other players' hidden helm and cloak settings.
Character models work the same way. One game-wide toggle switches between the original SD look and HD for your character, NPCs and other players, the HD models keep the classic animation sets, and the panel extended the HD and SD choice to the world graphics too. Blizzard also lists modern and Classic visual presets among the options.
Darkspear Islands is a new 15v15 battleground off the Kalimdor coast that combines strategic control points with Arathi Basin-style flag captures and defense. The classic battlegrounds return too, and both 2027 major updates carry a PvP season refresh.
Camping turns the Cooking Fire into a Basic Campfire: up to three players each add one crafted object, every profession gives its own buff or utility, and all camping features share a one-hour cooldown. A Blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel, for one, grants 34 Strength to everyone sitting nearby.
Over 600 new recipes are spread across the professions and their level ranges, crafted food now adds a small experience bonus on top of its stats, and advanced Blueprint recipes drop from dungeon bosses. Our professions guide lists every camp object, recipe tooltip and First Aid change shown so far.
WoW Forever Professions GuideIt is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time, so there is no separate game to buy. The editions on the Battle.net Shop are optional upgrades, starting at $29.99 for the Skyborne Heroic Pack.
WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 PM PST, which is 23:00 UTC and midnight CET going into November 5 for European players. The beta runs from September 17 to October 21.
Pre-purchase the Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99), the Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99) or the physical Collector's Edition, or opt in on the official WoW Forever site for a chance at an invite. The Heroic Pack does not include beta access, and beta characters are capped at level 30.
No. The Skyborne race and the Zephras Isle starting experience need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher edition.
No. It runs as a third version of the game, alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic, and Blizzard's recap states plainly that it is not a new version of Classic. If you prefer Classic's expansion-by-expansion progression, our TBC Anniversary overview covers that path.
No. WoW Forever is realmless: you choose one of four rulesets, Normal, PvP, Roleplay or Hardcore once it arrives after launch. Grouping, mail and the Auction House stay inside your ruleset.
No. Cross-ruleset grouping is not supported, and Horde and Alliance still cannot group together.
The points are. Legacy Points are shared by every character on your account, but each character spends them separately in its own Legacy Trees, up to 16 points at launch.
Yes. Seal of Fury is the new tanking Seal: it grants absorb shields while you wear a shield, and Judging it taunts the target for 4 seconds from 10 yards away.
No. The design pillars rule out flying mounts and level scaling, and no level cap increases are planned.
Yes, as the fourth ruleset, arriving after launch with no date announced. Blizzard lists it among the updates that follow the December 9 raid unlock. A Hardcore character that dies can transfer to another ruleset, PvP included.
Yes, as an opt-in setting. Pick Classic Mode on first launch and it starts switched off. Leave it off and every player around you shows the gear they actually wear.
December 9, 2026: the 10-player Barrow Deeps, the 20-player Hyjal Summit and a 40-player Onyxia's Lair open together.
Yes. Official gamepad support is part of WoW Forever, and the BlizzCon demo stations already had an option to switch to a controller.
Yes. WoW Forever runs on Windows and Mac.
No. Items from the editions work in WoW Forever, and some of them in modern WoW too, but none of them work in WoW Classic.
