Before obtaining Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings, players of the Druid, Monk, Paladin, Priest, or Shaman classes, who are at least level 45, need to collect x30 Fragments of Val'anyr from bosses within the Ulduar raid. It's important to note that fragments are not guaranteed to drop from every boss, but the chances can be increased by engaging in hardmode encounters (excluding Ignis, Razorscale, and Auriaya).
Once all 30 fragments have been obtained, players must assemble them into Shattered Fragments of Val'anyr and embark on the quest Ancient History. The next step is to transport the fragments to the archivum, located at the back of the Iron Council room in Ulduar. At the archivum, players will receive the quest Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings.
During the Yogg-Saron encounter in Ulduar's phase 3, while Yogg-Saron is casting Deafening Roar, players must throw the Unbound Fragments of Val'anyr into Yogg-Saron's mouth. This action can only be performed when 0-3 titan keepers are active. By default, 0 keepers are active unless players interact with a keeper in the circular walkway connecting Hodir, Thorim, Freya, Mimiron, and General Vezax's rooms.
After successfully defeating Yogg-Saron, players can loot the quest item and return to the archivum to receive Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings. Obtaining Val'anyr also grants the player the Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings feat of strength.
