Buying WoW PvP Gear in Dragonflight is definitely worth it since there is really no alternative to this gear when it comes to PvP. Not only Dragonflight Season 2 PvP sets are the ultimate gear for dominating battlegrounds and arenas thanks to their high item level and Versatility stat, but also this is a great starting gear for Mythic+ and raids. However, farming full Dragonflight PvP set is a tedious a boring task since you would have to win over 150 arenas to obtain full Obsidian Gladiator's set.
In Dragonflight, Blizzard brought back the good old PvP gear mechanic from Warlords of Draenor: dual item level. If you ordered it early in the season and you accumulated Conquest Points cap isn't large, it may take 1-1.5 months to get full PvP set. If you Conquest Points cap is large like 9,000-10,000 then full PvP set takes 5-7 days to complete.
There are 2 major types of PvP gear in Dragonflight: Aspirant Set and Gladiator Set. Aspirant gear, also known as Honor gear, is an easy-to-get starter PvP gear of ilvl 437. Essentially, it's a must-have gear for any player who wants to start doing arena and RBG. If you enter competitive PvP without at least this gear and hope to win you will be gravely disappointed, for your opponents didn't sit idly by, but came prepared! Aspirant's gear can be bought from PvP vendor and costs about 11,000 Honor Points for all slots.
Gladiator's Gear, most commonly known as Conquest Gear, is simply the most powerful PvP gear available in the game with ilvl surpassing that of mythic raid gear. Each season, Blizzard introduces a new PvP set for Conquest Points, but the principle remains the same: every week you can get only a limited amount of Conquest Points so full set of Conquest Gear can be bought only in about 6 weeks after the season's start. Full Conquest gear costs 10,850 Conquest Points which takes winning over 150 rated arenas. Quite a challenge, isn't it?
Even though item level of Dragonflight PvP gear in PvP situations cannot be upgraded and always remains constant (437 for Honor gear, 450 for Conquest gear), the PvE ilvl can be upgraded with Honor Points. Honor gear has 5 ranks and Conquest gear has 9 ranks. Upgrading your Dragonflight PvP gear will make your character stronger in PvE situations like dungeons or raids, but it's not necessary if you are playing only instanced PvP.
There is a set bonus from having 2 PvP trinkets: Duration of incoming crowd control effects reduced by 10%. Does not stack with similar effects. Increases your main stat and Stamina when in Arenas, Battlegrounds and War Mode.
