Clutch of Ji-Kun Mount Guide

Updated 30 Dec 2025 | Author: Invord | ~5 min

The Clutch of Ji-Kun is a memorable flying mount from the Throne of Thunder raid in Mists of Pandaria. It takes the form of Ji-Kun herself - a colossal predatory bird with heavy wings, sharp talons, and a distinctive silhouette that stands out even among other raid mounts.

This is a classic legacy raid farm: the clear is fast at modern levels, but the mount is gated by weekly lockouts and a low drop chance. The best way to approach Clutch of Ji-Kun is with a consistent weekly routine and multiple characters, turning a long-term goal into a clean, repeatable loop.

  • Added in patch: 5.2 "The Thunder King"
  • Type: Flying
  • Source: Raid Drop
  • Requirements: Access to Throne of Thunder
  • Repeat attempts: 1 per week per character

How to get Clutch of Ji-Kun

Clutch of Ji-Kun

The Clutch of Ji-Kun mount drops from Ji-Kun inside the Throne of Thunder raid. The mount has a low drop chance (commonly estimated around 3%) and can only be looted once per week per character.

Because the lockout is weekly, efficiency matters. Choose the fastest difficulty for your character, clear directly to Ji-Kun, and repeat the run across multiple alts to increase your weekly attempts.

If you would rather skip weekly RNG farming, our team can assist with organized legacy raid clears. Check our Clutch of Ji-Kun mount service for a streamlined approach focused on speed and consistency.

Getting to Throne of Thunder

The entrance to Throne of Thunder is located in the central region of the Isle of Thunder.

To unlock access to the island, you must complete the introductory quest Thunder Calls, available near the Shado-Pan Garrison in Townlong Steppes. Once completed, a permanent portal to the Isle of Thunder becomes available at the Shado-Pan Garrison.

To reach Pandaria, use the portal to The Jade Forest from the main portal room in Stormwind or Orgrimmar.

Inside Throne of Thunder

  • After defeating Jin'rokh the Breaker, you will reach one of the most dangerous traversal sections of the raid. The bridges ahead are patrolled by Spirit Flayer mobs surrounded by circular knockback zones. Stepping into these zones will knock you off the bridge and almost always result in death. These mobs cannot be killed, so carefully path around their circles.
  • The bridges are also affected by strong winds that push your character sideways, especially on the first bridge. Move deliberately and fight against the wind to avoid being pushed into Spirit Flayer zones. Defeating Stormbringer Draz'kil at the end of the gauntlet will remove the wind effect permanently.
  • After crossing the bridges, you will enter Horridon's arena. The encounter has a short delay while Horridon breaks free from his cage. This boss is also relevant for mount collectors, as he can drop Spawn of Horridon.
  • If you clear the trash after Horridon, make sure to kill the Shadowed Voodoo Spirit mobs that spawn afterward. Leaving them alive will keep you in combat and slow your run. Additionally, the trash pack in the center of the second room must be defeated before the door to the Council of Elders opens.
  • After defeating the Council of Elders, pass through two sets of doors until you reach the Stormbridge. Moving too far forward triggers an unskippable RP sequence. To avoid this delay, jump down on the right-hand side of the bridge before advancing.
Stormbridge RP skip
  • The drop is far, but you can angle your fall into the water to avoid fall damage. Even if you die, you will respawn directly in front of Tortos, so no time is lost.
  • Defeat Tortos and continue forward. Do not head directly to Megaera. You must first activate three bells to unlock the encounter.
  • Each bell is guarded by an Eternal Guardian. To locate them quickly, you can use /tar Eternal.

Once you’ve interacted with all three bells, you can head down to Megaera. This encounter takes longer than most due to multiple phases. Even if you deal extremely high damage, her heads do not die instantly. They typically complete their cycle and only fully die after Megaera finishes using Rampage. She will Rampage four times before the fight ends.

After Megaera dies, turn around and head up the ramp to the left toward the Roost of Ji-Kun. While climbing, be wary of the Gastropod snails.

If they get close, you can die instantly due to their Abrasive Radula debuff. It is best to avoid them completely unless you are intentionally farming their 0.8% drop chance toy, the Gastropod Shell. Once you can see Ji-Kun from above, you can jump down to her platform.

Fighting Ji-Kun won’t be a problem at modern levels. Kill her, loot the body, and hope to get Clutch of Ji-Kun.

Extra Tips

  • The raid can only be cleared once per week per character.
  • Running multiple characters dramatically improves weekly chances.
  • Difficulty selection does not impact drop rate.
