The Wild Hunt Legsplitter is a Night Fae - themed mount from Shadowlands that rewards collectors who enjoy structured, rotation-based farms. Its armored Wild Hunt look, glowing runic details, and “covenant aesthetic” make it a strong trophy mount for anyone building a Shadowlands collection.
What makes this mount hunt special is the way you farm it - you are not spamming a dungeon or camping a rare. Instead, you wait for the correct covenant assault window in the Maw, complete the full assault chain, and open a specific War Chest for a chance at the mount item. The real advantage is consistency: once you know the route, your weekly attempt becomes fast and repeatable.
The Wild Hunt Legsplitter mount comes from the War Chest of the Wild Hunt. Inside that chest, you are looking for the mount item Legsplitter War Harness, which teaches the mount when used.
Key idea: your attempt is tied to a rotating covenant assault. When the correct assault is active, you finish the event, loot the War Chest, and take your chance. If you are serious about collecting, preparing a few eligible alts is the cleanest way to increase your total attempts without changing the method.
Before you can hunt the Harvester's Dredwing, you must secure access to the endgame Shadowlands zone where it's found.
Campaign Requirements:
After this, you can access the Maw at any time via the Soul Pillar in the center of the Ring of Transference on Oribos's upper level.
Unlocking Covenant Assaults: To participate in assaults, you must progress further into the 9.1 campaign. Complete Chapter 2 of the Chains of Domination questline, starting with "Maw Walker". Afterwards, Bolvar Fordragon in Korthia will offer the breadcrumb quest "A Unified Effort", which unlocks the covenant assault system.
Covenant assaults are bi-weekly events in the Maw. Only one covenant leads the assault at a time, rotating in a fixed order:
Kyrian → Venthyr → Night Fae → Necrolord → (repeat)
You can check which assault is active by opening your Maw map or by visiting the "Today in WoW" section on Wowhead's front page under the Shadowlands category.
Rotation Schedule:
Important: You need to wait for the Night Fae Covenant Assault to be active to earn the correct War Chest. The assault remains active for approximately 3.5 days before rotating.
Once the Night Fae assault becomes active in the Maw, your goal is to finish the full assault chain and loot the War Chest of the Wild Hunt. This chest is the only source you care about for this mount because it can contain Legsplitter War Harness - the item that teaches Wild Hunt Legsplitter.
Start clean: the fastest approach is to enter the Maw from Oribos and immediately use the Night Fae assault “taxi” instead of manually traveling through hostile areas. This keeps your run consistent even on undergeared alts.
After the ride, you will arrive near the assault staging camp. Your anchor NPC is Lord Herne - speak with him to begin the event and reveal the local quest cluster that drives the assault forward.
Lord Herne: /way #1543 22.5 43.4
Phase 1 (quest sweep): Most of the assault time is spent doing a tight bundle of objectives around the camp. The exact quests can vary between runs, but the efficient play is always the same - pick everything up first, then complete objectives in one loop, then return for turn-ins.
Once you complete the turn-ins, the assault shifts into a more scripted sequence. Don’t treat this part like a brawl - it’s designed around staying safe, moving with purpose, and using the tools the event gives you.
The finale plays out like a short stealth-style scenario. Talk to Lady Moonberry to enter the disguise vehicle. You will have three action buttons, and the only real rule is: avoid getting fully caught. If a Mawsworn mob locks onto you and you don’t react fast, you will be reset back to the start of the ending phase.
Rescue all four allies: using fixed waypoints makes this phase dramatically faster, especially if you repeat the assault on alts.
With everyone rescued, pass through the shadowy barrier and defeat Darkmist Ascendant Relyana to end the assault.
After the boss dies, you’ll receive the War Chest of the Wild Hunt. Open it and look for Legsplitter War Harness. If the mount doesn’t drop, don’t leave empty-handed - the same chest can also contain extra collectibles like Invasive Buzzer.
This farm is all about making each active window count. The assault itself is straightforward once learned, so your biggest wins come from faster navigation, fewer mistakes in the ending phase, and more total attempts.
