Topaz Skyfang Mount Guide

Updated 15 Aug 2026 | Author: Invord | ~2 min

The Topaz Skyfang is a breathtaking wind serpent whose golden-hued scales and sleek, predatory form make it one of the most striking mounts on the Coiled Isle. Its shimmering topaz coloration and graceful, gliding movements make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a radiant, majestic aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its elusive nature: "This elusive wind serpent likes to hide in the forest canopy before stooping down on unsuspecting prey." For collectors who value rarity and the thrill of the hunt, this mount is a true trophy — a symbol of persistence and dedication in the face of low drop rates.

Introduced in patch 12.1.0 as part of the Midnight Season 2 update, the Topaz Skyfang embodies the essence of the classic rare spawn hunt — a mount that rewards patience, determination, and a willingness to commit to a daily routine. Unlike reputation grinds or achievement-based rewards, this golden serpent demands persistence above all else, offering no shortcuts or guaranteed paths. Each day brings a new set of opportunities as you hunt down the island's rare creatures, and the hope that today might be the day the mount drops is what keeps collectors coming back. For those who live for the chase and don't shy away from long odds, the Topaz Skyfang offers an authentic and deeply rewarding hunting experience.

  • Added in patch: 12.1.0 "Curse of Ula'tek"
  • Mount type: Flying
  • Source: Rare drop from Coiled Isle rares
  • Requirements: Level 90, The Coiled Isle unlocked
  • Drop Rate: Very low (estimated <1%)

How to Get Topaz Skyfang

Topaz Skyfang

The Topaz Skyfang has a chance to drop from any of the 12 rare creatures found on The Coiled Isle. This is a low drop chance mount — while the exact drop rate is unknown, it is estimated to be well below 1%, similar to other zone-wide rare drop mounts. The mount is Bind-on-Pickup, so it must be looted and learned on the character that obtains it.

Important: Each rare has a daily lockout per character, meaning you can only loot each rare once per day. However, with 12 rares available, you have 12 chances per day on each character.

Unlocking Access to the Island

To begin your rare hunt, you must first gain access to The Coiled Isle. The island becomes available during the main campaign questline The Curse of Ula'tek in Patch 12.1.0 during Chapter 2. The quest What Lies Beyond the Fog sends you to the island.

Once you've completed the introductory questline, you are able to fly over to the island on every character that is part of your Warband. If you haven't completed the campaign on your main character, you will need to do so before you can access the island on your alts.

All Rare Spawn Locations

There are 12 rare spawns across The Coiled Isle. Each rare rewards 50 reputation with Zul'jarra's Forces upon defeat, but more importantly, each has a chance to drop the Topaz Skyfang mount. Below is a comprehensive table with the coordinates of all rares. Some rares require additional actions to spawn — refer to the "Additional Information" column for specific instructions.

Rare Spawns (12)
Rare Mob Coordinates Additional Information
Farthik the Plunderer /way #2512 53.8 72.0 Interact with the Unguarded Chest to summon Farthik. Note: There is a known issue where the chest and rare may spawn independently. Do not open the chest unless Farthik is flying overhead — opening it prematurely can break the spawn. Relogging can sometimes fix the chest not appearing.
Coin-Eye Skully /way #2512 55.8 67.9 Swims in a circle around the area.
Sss'alik /way #2512 60.0 40.0 Patrols up and down the nearby path.
Szarith the Fanged /way #2509 38.8 13.4 Located in The Underbelly, the northernmost part of the Vaults of Atal'Utek. Enter at /way #2509 47.1 6.4.
Nar'zira /way #2512 63.1 62.1 Inside the Tomb of the Lost Priest. Entrance at /way #2512 52.4 43.1.
Kari'zah the Forgotten /way #2512 24.8 73.5 Simple interactable rare.
Hisstara /way #2512 43.9 50.8 Simple interactable rare.
Garsecg /way #2512 69.5 45.0 Simple interactable rare.
Siltmouth /way #2512 50.1 69.0 Simple interactable rare.
Lockjaw /way #2512 31.7 56.7 Simple interactable rare.
Big Mon /way #2512 70.1 63.5 Simple interactable rare.
Destra /way #2512 52.0 32.3 Simple interactable rare.

Why Alts Are Crucial for This Farm

Since each rare has a daily lockout per character, the best way to improve your odds of obtaining the Topaz Skyfang is to use multiple characters.

How alts accelerate your progress:

  • Daily Lockout: Each character can loot each rare once per day. With 12 rares and 5 alts, you have 60 attempts per day.
  • Increased Odds: More attempts per day mean a higher chance of seeing the mount drop over time.
  • Multiple Routes: With multiple characters, you can park alts at different rare locations and cycle through them efficiently.

Recommended alt strategy:

  • Have 3-5 characters at level 90 with The Coiled Isle unlocked.
  • Run a circuit of all 12 rares on each character daily.
  • Use the Group Finder or coordinate with friends to make kills faster.
  • Focus on rares that are easy to reach and have simple spawn conditions first.

Practical Advice and Common Pitfalls

  • Skip problematic rares and swap characters: If a rare isn't spawning or is taking too long to appear — especially Farthik the Plunderer, which has known spawn issues — don't waste time camping it. Switch to another character or move to the next rare on your route. The daily lockout is per character, so killing more rares across multiple alts is far more efficient than waiting for one stubborn spawn.
  • Use the Group Finder for crowded rares: If multiple players are competing for the same rare, join or form a group. Everyone who tags the rare can loot it, making the process faster and more efficient.
  • Be mindful of Farthik's spawn bug: There is a known issue where the chest and Farthik can spawn independently. Only open the chest when Farthik is flying overhead — opening it prematurely can break the spawn. If the chest doesn't appear or the spawn seems broken, try relogging or swapping to another character.
  • Park alts at different locations: Instead of running the same circuit on every character, park your alts at different rare locations. This allows you to quickly log between characters and check multiple spawns without traveling across the island each time.
  • Don't forget the daily reset: Each rare has a daily lockout per character. Make sure to check back each day after the reset to maximise your attempts.

Useful Addons for Efficient Rare Farming

Farming a rare-drop mount like the Topaz Skyfang requires patience, persistence, and a good set of tools to track rare spawns and coordinate with other players.

  • RareScanner: The most essential addon for this farm. Alerts you when rare mobs spawn nearby with a sound notification and displays the next rare in the spawn rotation. It also marks the next rare on your map with a pink icon, making it easy to plan your route.
  • SilverDragon: An alternative to RareScanner that also alerts you to nearby rare spawns. Some players prefer it for its simplicity and reliability.
  • HandyNotes: Displays all rare spawn locations on your map, along with treasure and lore object locations. Essential for planning efficient routes.
  • TomTom / Paste: Quickly set waypoints to rare locations. Combined with HandyNotes, this makes navigation trivial.
  • SavedInstances: Tracks which characters have already killed which rares for the day. Essential for managing multiple alts.
  • Rarity: Tracks how many attempts you've made on each rare. A great way to stay motivated during the grind.
  • Leatrix Plus: Quality-of-life improvements like auto-repair, auto-sell junk, and faster interactions — small time savers that add up over a long grind.

Pro tip: Use RareScanner in combination with HandyNotes for maximum efficiency. RareScanner alerts you when a rare spawns, and HandyNotes shows you where all rares are located. Use SavedInstances to track which of your alts have already killed each rare for the day.
