Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren is one of those mounts that feels like a real “secret collectible” - not a raid drop, not a vendor purchase, and not a simple weekly roll. You bring an ancient creature back through a ritual on Siren Isle, and the whole process pushes you into exploration, rares, treasures, and a bit of old-school grinding inside the storm phase.
For mount collectors, the appeal is obvious - it’s a striking stormcrow-style mount with a distinct silhouette and “mythic ritual” vibe that looks great in any collection lineup. It’s also satisfying because your progress is very tangible: each runekey you complete is one more rune stone you can activate, until the final ritual becomes a guaranteed unlock instead of pure RNG.
Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren is obtained by reviving Thrayir’s NPC through a ritual on Siren Isle. To complete the ritual, you must activate five runestones near his body - and each runestone requires a specific runekey you’ll collect from different activities on the island.
The process is more straightforward than it sounds. Most of the steps are consistent and repeatable - the only truly grindy part is farming Torrential Fragments due to their very low drop rate from storm-phase mobs.
First, you need to unlock Siren Isle by picking up the introductory quest from
Dawn
inside the Foundation Hall in Dornogal (the building with Stormwind/Orgrimmar portals).

The quest sends you to Skaggit, who takes you by zeppelin to Siren Isle. It’s strongly recommended to finish the full intro chain because it unlocks key island systems.
Returning later is easy - the same zeppelin is always in the same Dornogal spot. To leave Siren Isle back to Dornogal, talk to

on the zeppelin there.

Everything you need for Thrayir happens in the storm phase of Siren Isle. To unlock storm access for the week, complete the weekly elite world quest - it can be Legacy of the Vrykul, Tides of Greed, or Serpent’s Wrath. Once completed, you can freely enter and exit the storm phase until the weekly reset.
To enter storm phase, speak with
Suzie Boltwrench
in Floatsam Shoal (the main town). She will teleport you into the storm phase.

Once you’re inside the storm, you can start collecting the five runekeys. The order below is arranged from simplest to most time-consuming for most players.
This key comes from three Turbulent Fragment placed in fixed locations around the isle. You’re basically doing a short “scavenger hunt” for three ghosts. Bring TomTom (addons section below) so you can copy/paste the waypoints and move quickly.
Fragment 1 - found in the southeastern zone (Stormtide Dregs), inside a small cave called Rotting Hole.
The cave is usually guarded by two Eggtender mobs.
In the back you’ll spot a yellow Kul Tiran ghost - the fragment is right in front of it.
Fragment 2 - located in the Spirit-Scarred Cave.
The entrance is near the Ghoststone Diggings mine area. Inside, look for a yellow ghost kneeling near a runic pillar; the fragment is in its hand.
Fragment 3 - outside in Ghoststone Diggings, to the right of the largest building called the Salt and Shanty.
You’ll see a yellow ghost digging in the garden. Interact with the dirt pile in front of him to loot the fragment.
The Whirling Runekey is the “clean” key - it’s basically a quick trip into the The Forgotten Vault and a rare kill.
Head to the vault entrance in the northern part of Siren Isle:

Walk past Regald Hornfyre into the cave and click the glowing Singing Tablet in the middle. Choose the dialogue option to put your hand into the divot - you’ll be teleported inside the Forgotten Vault.
Once inside, go straight down the hall to the door, open it, and head downstairs. In the back of the room you should find Ksvir the Forgotten. He has a high chance (often effectively guaranteed) to drop the Whirling Runekey.
If he isn’t up, don’t panic - his respawn is short, around a few minutes.

This key is assembled from five Thunderous Fragment. They drop from treasures around Siren Isle, and you specifically want treasure spawns in the storm phase. The rate isn’t amazing, but it’s still far more reasonable than the last two keys.
Important unlock: you need to finish the Siren Isle questline ending with Uncovered Mysteries so you can see Runed Storm Cache. These caches are the primary chests you’ll hunt. You also need the extra action button Runecaster’s Eye to unlock them.
Below are TomTom waypoints for all confirmed cache locations in the storm phase. Most caches are on ground level; a few are tucked into caves. Respawn timing varies, but typically feels like 5-10 minutes.

If caches feel “dry” on your shard, use realm hopping: join Siren Isle groups in the Group Finder and you’ll phase to the leader’s realm. This is one of the biggest speed boosts for Thunderous Fragments.
The Cyclonic Runekey has two practical methods: rare farming and fishing.
The rare you’re looking for is the kraken
Zek’kul the Shipbreaker,
floating offshore on the southern coast of Deadfin Mire.

Be mindful of his skeleton add ability - it can overwhelm undergeared characters quickly if you stand still and ignore the wave. Luckily, this rare is popular, and you’ll usually have other players nearby for quick kills.
The alternative is fishing in the waters behind Zek’kul’s spawn area - the key can also come from there. Because the drop rate is relatively low either way, the best rhythm is: fish while waiting for respawn, then tag the rare when it appears (respawn often feels like several minutes).
This is the grind wall. You need seven Torrential Fragment, and they can drop from any mob inside the storm phase. The problem is simple: the drop rate is extremely low. Also note - fragments are currently bind on pickup, so you must farm them on the character you intend to do the ritual with.
The most efficient approach is joining a dedicated farm group through Group Finder. The most common hyperspawn-style farm spot is the beach outside the Forgotten Vault entrance, where packs respawn quickly and you can chain-pull nonstop. Specifically, you’ll see multiple Brinebound Wraiths charging toward Regald Hornfyre.
A solid backup spot is the southern coast. Mob density is high, but respawns can be slower - you’ll move more. The upside is obvious: you’re near Zek'ul the Shipbreaker, so your group can work on Cyclonic Runekey progress at the same time.
Once you have all five runekeys, return to the Forgotten Vault entrance in the storm phase.

This time, instead of going straight ahead, enter the room on the left (from your character’s perspective). Go up the stairs and you’ll find Thrayir’s inert body with five runestones placed around it.
Interact with each runestone and slot the correct runekey. After all five stones are activated, Thrayir revives and offers a quest that rewards the mount. Once you turn it in, you’ll receive Thrayir, Eyes of the Siren.
Thrayir isn’t mechanically difficult, but it’s extremely “navigation heavy”: cave entrances, fixed fragment spots, chest circuits, group hopping, and farming loops. The right addons remove the friction and make the whole run feel like a checklist instead of a wandering session.
If you’re doing this mount efficiently, the biggest difference is how fast you can rotate between: storm access, chest checks, rare tags, and farming loops. These addons are basically your toolkit for doing that without mental overhead.
Mount hunting is one of those World of Warcraft goals that looks simple on paper, but becomes time-consuming because of travel, old content access, and annoying details like zone phasing. We focus on turning that “messy” part into a clear plan: correct routes, correct phases, and the exact order of steps - so progress is consistent.
