The Venomous Abyss is the eight-boss raid headlining WoW Midnight Season 2, sunk beneath the Coiled Isle in the venom-flooded temple of an old Amani serpent goddess. Ula'tek sat sealed for sixteen thousand years. Patch 12.1 is the tier where she claws back out, dragging possessed tortollan explorers and her own venom-golem sentinels up through the temple.
Everything you need to plan your runs sits in one place: the wing layout, every weapon, armor piece, trinket and tier token sorted by boss, the Mistcrest upgrade path, and the achievement list down to the per-boss feats. Mythic gear drops at item level 311 and upgrades to 337, and the tier set comes from only five specific bosses, so knowing exactly who hands out what is the gap between a focused clear and three lockouts of wasted luck.
The Venomous Abyss is the second raid of WoW Midnight and the centerpiece of the Curse of Ula'tek patch. It sits inside the Temple of Ula'tek on the Coiled Isle, the new snake-themed zone that doubles as Season 2's questing and endgame hub. Thematically it is a homecoming to Amani territory: the temple is stacked with reanimated troll dead, a Soulcoil Well full of restless Amani spirits, and a warlord you may remember from Zul'Aman.
The roster leans hard into council and add fights. Three of the eight encounters put more than one enemy in front of you at once, and almost every boss in the temple spends the fight throwing living venom, hatchlings, or mind-controlled allies into the room. This is an add-control raid first and a patchwork-damage raid second, so interrupts and well-timed stuns matter more than they did across most of Season 1.
Ula'tek is a serpent goddess the Amani once worshipped, imprisoned beneath her own temple for over sixteen thousand years. Season 2's story is her reconstitution. Down in the temple, the ghostly Nek'zali the Soulcoiler coils around the Amani dead at the Soulcoil Well, the Zul'jan you fight has been twisted into a snake-beast vessel, and Hex Lord Malacrass wants that vessel for himself. It pays off the Zul'Aman thread that has been dormant for years, and it ends with the goddess loose on the platform, shattering her own prison to get at you.
The Venomous Abyss opens alongside Midnight Season 2, the gear and content reset that ships a week or so after Patch 12.1 itself goes live. Normal and Heroic unlock first with all eight bosses available, and Mythic plus the staggered Raid Finder wings follow on the usual weekly cadence after that.
| Stage | Difficulty | Bosses Available |
|---|---|---|
| Season 2 launch | Normal / Heroic | All 8 bosses |
| Following week | Mythic + Raid Finder Wing 1 | Mythic: all 8; LFR: Essence of Ula'tek |
| Week after | Raid Finder Wing 2 | Beasts of Ula'tek |
| Final week | Raid Finder Wing 3 | Ula'tek |
Raid Finder splits the temple into three wings, gated a week apart, so a Raid Finder group reaches Ula'tek only once the third wing opens. Heroic is the difficulty to farm from launch week if you want Ahead of the Curve before the next tier.
Eight encounters, grouped into three wings the same way Raid Finder gates them. Three of the fights are multi-target councils, and five hand out a tier-set token for a fixed slot. Nek'zali opens the temple; Ula'tek closes it. Here is the full layout.
| Wing | Encounter | Made Up Of | Tier Slot |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 — Essence of Ula'tek | Nek'zali the Soulcoiler | Single boss | - |
| 1 — Essence of Ula'tek | Vashnik the Malignant | Single boss | Chest |
| 1 — Essence of Ula'tek | Entombed Sentinels | Breath & Blood of Ula'tek | Hands |
| 2 — Beasts of Ula'tek | The Lost Explorers | Mor'zahi & captive tortollans | Shoulders |
| 2 — Beasts of Ula'tek | The Twin Fangs | Vexhul & Ithraz | Head |
| 2 — Beasts of Ula'tek | Sszorak | Single boss | Legs |
| 3 — Ula'tek | The Bargained Crown | Zul'jan & Hex Lord Malacrass | - |
| 3 — Ula'tek | Ula'tek | Single boss | - |
Gear scales across the four difficulties, and every piece upgrades with Season 2 Mistcrests rather than the Dawncrests you fed your gear in Season 1. Each difficulty drops loot on its own track and hands out the matching crest, climbing cleanly from Raid Finder up to Mythic.
| Difficulty | Drops | Upgrades To | Crest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raid Finder | 272 | 289 | Veteran Mistcrest |
| Normal | 285 | 302 | Champion Mistcrest |
| Heroic | 298 | 315 | Hero Mistcrest |
| Mythic | 311 | 328 | Myth Mistcrest |
Every piece takes six ranks to cap on its track. The Mythic track tops out at item level 328, with two further steps to 334 and 337 reachable through special acquisition. That 337 ceiling is the real reason to keep clearing Mythic long after your first kill, since the drops themselves are only the starting point.
Five of the eight bosses drop a tier-set token, and the Season 2 set splits by armor type instead of the old cross-class groupings. Each token creates a set piece for a fixed slot. The opener, The Bargained Crown, and Ula'tek herself drop no token at all, so the full four-piece comes out of the middle of the raid.
| Boss | Token | Tier Slot |
|---|---|---|
| The Twin Fangs | Effigy | Head |
| The Lost Explorers | Remnant | Shoulders |
| Vashnik the Malignant | Icon | Chest |
| Entombed Sentinels | Idol | Hands |
| Sszorak | Relic | Legs |
The prefix on each token tells you which armor class it belongs to. Tokens are shared by armor type across the four groups:
The temple covers nearly every weapon type, and the standout pieces come off the back half of the raid: the named warlord axes from The Bargained Crown and the goddess daggers from Ula'tek.

Beyond gear, the temple carries a full achievement set — per-boss feats that force you to play the mechanics the hard way, on top of the usual difficulty clears and the limited prestige runs that vanish when the next tier lands. Start with the ones on a clock.
These close when the next raid tier opens, so they only matter this season:
Each one scripts a specific, awkward way to kill a boss:
Season 2 ties the raid into the new player housing system. Most bosses drop a themed decor piece, and the two trophy items off the finale are the prestige props — the kind you put by the front door so every visitor knows you cleared the temple.
| Decor Item | Boss |
|---|---|
| Soulcoiler's Ritual Candle | Nek'zali the Soulcoiler |
| Hexed Tomb Brazier | Entombed Sentinels |
| Lost Explorers' Mailbox | The Lost Explorers |
| Venom-Fanged Font | The Twin Fangs |
| Vessel of the Howling Ossuary | Sszorak |
| Pillar of the Coiled Isle | The Bargained Crown |
| The Venomous Abyss Gleaming Trophy | Ula'tek |
| "Rage of the Shackled" Mural | Ula'tek |
Eight, split across three wings and ending on the serpent goddess Ula'tek. Three of them are multi-target councils: Entombed Sentinels, The Twin Fangs, and The Bargained Crown.
The raid opens alongside Midnight Season 2. Normal and Heroic unlock first with all eight bosses, then Mythic and the Raid Finder wings roll out over the following weeks.
Raid Finder drops 272, Normal 285, Heroic 298, and Mythic 311. Mistcrests upgrade each piece up its track, with Mythic capping at 328 and reaching 334-337 through special steps.
No raid mount has surfaced in the current loot tables. The collectible payoff this tier is the player-housing decor set, headlined by the two trophy props from Ula'tek.
