The Scrapforged Mechaspider is a magnificent mechanical arachnid mount that represents the pinnacle of Mechagon's recycling ingenuity. This four-legged marvel isn't just a mount—it's the culmination of a twelve-step quest chain that transforms scavenged parts into a loyal mechanical companion. What makes this acquisition particularly rewarding is its deterministic nature—once available, you can complete the entire chain in a single session.
Beyond its impressive appearance, the Scrapforged Mechaspider serves as a key milestone toward the prestigious Mecha-Done meta-achievement, which rewards the coveted Mechacycle Model W mount. This makes it an essential target for both mount collectors and completionists alike.
The Scrapforged Mechaspider is awarded upon completing the quest Drive It Away Today, the final step in a twelve-quest chain. Originally designed as daily quests, this chain can now be completed in a single day, transforming what was once a twelve-day commitment into an achievable weekend project. The journey begins in southern Rustbolt with Recycler Kerchunk and takes you across the entire junkyard island.
To begin your journey, you must first gain access to Mechagon Island. Complete the introductory questline for Battle for Azeroth content. First, pick up the introductory quest from your faction's board:
Alliance: Head to the Hero's Call Board in Stormwind's Trade District at /way #84 63.0, 71.6. Speak to the Hero's Herald and accept Battle for Azeroth: Tides of War.
Horde: Head to the Warchief's Command Board in Orgrimmar's Valley of Strength at /way #85 49.7, 76.7. Speak to the Warchief's Herald and accept Battle for Azeroth: Mission Statement.
Follow the introductory questline until you reach your faction's capital (Boralus or Dazar'alor) and complete the initial foothold, earning the achievement Come Sail Away (Alliance) or Welcome to Zandalar (Horde).
Once this is done, locate the questgiver for Mechagon in your capital:
Accept and complete the quest The Legend of Mechagon to unlock the island and the Rustbolt Resistance faction. This short campaign is a prerequisite.
After completing the main Mechagon campaign quests (including Welcome to the Resistance), the first quest Shop Project becomes available from Recycler Kerchunk in southern Rustbolt at /way #1462 71.5 38.8. Speak to him to begin building your mechanical spider.
The following twelve quests form the core of your mount acquisition. With the removal of daily locks, you can power through them all in one go.
For the first quest, you’ll need to collect three separate items found around Mechagon. Each represents a core component of your future mount.
Once you’ve collected all three items, head back to Kerchunk and turn in the quest.
For the second quest, you are granted an extra action button called Bot Re-Energizer. Your objective is to find three “dead” bots and revive them. You will not have to travel far as there are plenty in the Heaps outside of Rustbolt. There are also some in and around Bondo’s Yard.
Once you’ve found a bot, use your extra action button on it. It will come back to life and follow you for three minutes, giving you plenty of time to collect two more. Once you have three, head back to Kerchunk and guide them into the yellow circle in front of him. You can fly, and the bots will follow. Then turn in the quest.
Quest number three requires you to pay a visit to Bondo Bigblock in Bondo’s Yard. Speak to Bondo and he will agree to give you the item you need if you can fight off his gang. You will have to stand in the large outlined circle while they come at you in waves. They don’t have a lot of health so it should be easy at max level. Once you’ve defeated 15, you’ll have to then kill the “boss” Knuckles. You can then pick up the item you need out of Bondo’s Strongbox located on the ground nearby. Fly back to Rustbolt to turn in your quest!
The fourth quest requires you to head back into the Heaps. You need to kill 10 Steelarm Pillagers. Additionally, you must attack the Stolen Parts carriers (flying mechano-constructs) so that the box they are carrying drops to the ground. Looting it, as well as the bodies of the Pillagers, will give you the Spiderspring Gears you also need to collect. Once you’ve completed these tasks, return to Recycler Kerchunk.
The fifth quest in the chain requires you to collect 4 Mechaspider Legs and 12 Toe Springs. Toe Springs have a chance to drop off of Troggs in the Scrapbone Den. They also can be found on the ground along with the needed Mechaspider Legs. It's a straightforward farming task in a contained area.
This quest tests your stockpile. You'll need 1,000 Spare Parts. These are the common currency of Mechagon, dropped by almost every mob and found in crates. Critical Warning: Turning in this quest WILL consume all 1,000 Spare Parts from your inventory. Ensure you're ready to part with them before completing the hand-in.
For this more complex gathering quest, you’ll need to collect specific crafted components: 30x Hardened Spring, 5x Machined Gear Assembly and 10x Tempered Plating. These can be looted, crafted with Engineering, or purchased from the Auction House. Once gathered, interact with a Recyclerizer DX-82 found in Rustbolt. You will receive a Recycling Requisition box in your inventory to loot the quest item from.
At this point, a goblin NPC called Grizzek Fizzwrench appears beside Kerchunk. Pick up the eighth quest from him! You’ll need to head to the Outflow. Use the quest item Grease Trap from your inventory to place it. Lure Congealed Oil mobs near it and kill them. Each kill yields 1 Cog Grease. You can move your Grease Trap to a new location every 15 seconds. Collect 12 Cog Grease and return.
This quest requires patience and exploration. You must collect 20 Empty Energy Cells. They MUST be Empty—charged ones do not count. The most efficient sources are:
Below are known coordinates for Mechanized Chests to jumpstart your search:
Note: These may not be ALL possible locations. Keep an eye on your minimap for chest icons while flying.
For the tenth quest, you will be put into a prototype spider vehicle to test its functions. First, get to maximum speed by pressing the Pedal to the Medal button (first) five or six times. Once at max speed, hit the Emergency Brake (second) button. Then, drive to the first checkpoint shown on your map, located in the Fleeting Forest. You'll need to climb up the mountainous terrain facing south. Reach the checkpoint bot, then continue to the second checkpoint further around the mountain. Once done, you can exit the vehicle and fly back to Kerchunk.
Return to Bondo Bigblock in Bondo’s Yard for a rematch. You need to fight off waves of his goons again, though there will be fewer than last time. Once you’ve defeated them all, speak to Bondo and he’ll give you the quest item.
The grand finale! You must craft the 500S-Cybergenic Powercore at the workbench of Pascal-K1N6 in Rustbolt. The recipe requires:
Gather the materials, craft the Powercore, and deliver it to Kerchunk. Turning it in rewards you with your magnificent new Scrapforged Mechaspider mount and the achievement Making the Mount, a key part of the larger Mecha-Done meta-achievement.
