Sandy Nightsaber Mount Guide

Updated 10 Aug 2026 | Author: Invord | ~9 min

The Sandy Nightsaber is a rare and elegant saber cat whose warm, sandy coat and piercing golden eyes make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate sleek, natural mounts with a touch of the exotic. Its lean, powerful frame and silent, predatory movements speak to its origins among the night elf huntresses who prize this rare colouration. The flavour text captures its exclusivity perfectly: “A rare color for a nightsaber, and rarely seen, they are prized amongst huntresses.” For collectors who value prestige and dedication, this mount is a true trophy — a creature of the wild that carries the weight of the Battle for Darkshore.

Introduced in patch 8.3.0 “Visions of N’Zoth”, the Sandy Nightsaber stands as a testament to the enduring conflict between the Horde and Alliance in the Battle for Darkshore. Unlike many rare mounts that rely on luck, this reward is earned through a combination of consistent effort, strategic currency farming, and a challenging group achievement. The sandy-coated saber cat is not just a mount — it is a symbol of your dedication to the warfront cause, a companion that carries the weight of your victories in one of Azeroth's most contested battlegrounds. For collectors who value reliability over RNG, this mount offers a clear and rewarding path, though one that requires patience, coordination, and a willingness to engage with the Warfront system.

  • Added in patch: 8.3.0 “Visions of N’Zoth”
  • Mount type: Ground
  • Source: Vendor purchase
  • Requirements: Level 50, Warfront access
  • Faction: Both (purchasable by both factions)

How to Get Sandy Nightsaber

Sandy Nightsaber

The Sandy Nightsaber is purchased from faction-specific vendors for 350 Service Medals. The vendors are located in each faction's capital:

This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition — there is no RNG involved, no rare spawns to camp, and no low drop rates to overcome. Simply earn the required currency and buy the mount. However, there is a catch: you must have completed the Heroic Darkshore warfront on the character you are purchasing the mount with. The Heroic: War for the Shore achievement is character-specific, not account-wide.

Unlocking Warfronts – The First Step

Before you can begin earning Service Medals and completing Heroic Darkshore, you must unlock access to the Warfront system. This requires progressing through the Battle for Azeroth endgame campaign.

For Horde:

For Alliance:

Earning Service Medals – The Currency

Honorbound or 7th Legion Service Medals are the primary currency for this mount. They can be earned through several methods, which are detailed below. As of The War Within prepatch, Service Medals are transferrable between all characters on your account (same faction only), so farming on multiple alts is highly recommended.

Warfronts – The Largest Source

Warfronts award the most medals out of any activity. However, at the time of writing, they require a premade group of 10 to queue. As such, it can be fairly difficult to find a group. Check different Group Finder channels and thematic Discord servers for faster group recruitment.

It is best to do the Heroic version of a warfront, as you will be able to complete the Normal and Heroic quests at the same time. You can pick these quests up from:

  • Alliance: Ralston Karn across from the Wind's Redemption - /way #1161 65.9 26
  • Horde: Throk at the Port of Dazar'alor - /way #862 52.9 94.4

Completing both Darkshore quests will earn you a total of 30 Service Medals. Completing both Stromgarde quests will get you 65 Service Medals in total. Remember: you must complete the Heroic warfront specifically to unlock the mount purchase!

World Quests – Daily Medals

Every day, there will be five new world quests you can complete in either Darkshore or Arathi Highlands, depending on which your faction currently owns. There is always a world boss up as well, but you can only kill it for Medals once per warfront cycle (2 weeks).

To get to Darkshore or Arathi Highlands, there is always a portal to the zone your faction controls at the docks between Throk and Provisioner Mukra. For Alliance, the portal is just across from Provisioner Stoutforge at the Boralus Harbor.

Faction Assaults – Bonus Medals

Faction Assaults occur when either the Horde or Alliance forces invade an area of the opposite faction in Kul Tiras or Zandalar. They happen roughly once a day and last for seven hours. You can check if they're up by looking at the front page of Wowhead under the BFA section.

Faction Assaults

When you get to the area, you'll automatically be given a quest where you have to complete four faction assault world quests in the area. These quests will have the Horde or Alliance symbol on their icons.

Faction Assaults

After completing four world quests, you will get to the final quest where you will be asked to do something unique for each zone. Once you've done the last step, you will receive 5 Service Medals.

Paragon Cache – Endgame Medals

The Honorbound Supplies cache is awarded every 10,000 reputation after reaching Exalted with The Honorbound. Similarly, 7th Legion Supplies is awarded every 10,000 reputation after reaching Exalted with the 7th Legion. They always contain 20 Service Medals.

All the activities listed previously will also give you reputation with the Honorbound or 7th Legion. In addition, you can farm more reputation by completing 7th Legion world quests on Zandalar (Alliance) or Honorbound world quests on Kul Tiras (Horde). These world quests reset daily.

Emissaries – Bonus Reputation

The emissary system selects one faction that you can earn bonus reputation and rewards from each day. Each emissary lasts for three days. You can check which reputations have emissaries by opening your map in Zandalar or Kul Tiras and looking at the bottom left corner.

To complete the emissary, simply complete four associated faction world quests. Then head to:

  • Alliance: Vindicator Jaelaana to the right of the Wind's Redemption - /way #1161 68.9 24.7
  • Horde: Ransa Greyfeather at the Port of Dazar'alor next to the Banshee's Wail - /way #862 58 62.6

Heroic War for the Shore – The Key Achievement

Before you can purchase the Sandy Nightsaber, you must complete the Heroic: War for the Shore achievement on the character you are buying the mount with. This achievement requires you to complete the Heroic Darkshore warfront.

Important: This achievement is not account-wide. If you have completed it on one character, you cannot purchase the mount on another character until that character also completes the Heroic warfront. Plan accordingly!

The Heroic Darkshore warfront can be queued for from the Warfront table in your faction's capital. You will need a group of 10 players to queue. The Heroic version is significantly more challenging than Normal, so ensure your group is well-prepared with gear and coordination.

Tip: If you are having trouble finding a Heroic Darkshore group, try checking the Premade Groups section of the Group Finder during peak hours. Many players are still running this content for the achievement and Service Medals.

Multi-Character & Farming Strategies

As of The War Within prepatch, Service Medals are transferrable between all characters on your account (same faction only). This makes farming on multiple alts the fastest way to reach 350 Medals.

  • Farm World Quests on alts: Each character can complete the five daily world quests in Darkshore or Arathi Highlands for additional Medals.
  • Complete Faction Assaults on alts: Each character can complete the assault quests for 5 Medals each time an assault is active.
  • Pool Medals via the Warband bank: Transfer all Medals to a single character to make the purchase.
  • Note: The Heroic: War for the Shore achievement is character-specific. You must complete it on the character you plan to buy the mount with.
Farming Service Medals efficiently often requires multiple characters and a dedicated group for Heroic Warfronts. A structured power leveling service is an alternative for players who need to expand their alt army quickly.

Extra Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Complete the Heroic warfront first: You cannot purchase the mount without the Heroic: War for the Shore achievement. Prioritise this before farming all 350 Medals.
  • Farm Medals on multiple characters: Service Medals are transferrable via the Warband bank. Use alts to speed up the grind.
  • Don't forget faction assaults: These provide easy Medals and reset daily. Check Wowhead's “Today in WoW” section to see if one is active.
  • Check the Warfront table: The Warfront cycle determines which zone (Darkshore or Arathi Highlands) is active. Plan your farming accordingly.
  • This mount is usable by both factions: Unlike many Warfront mounts, the Sandy Nightsaber can be ridden by both Horde and Alliance once purchased.
  • Be patient with Heroic groups: Finding a group for Heroic Darkshore can take time. Use Discord communities and the Group Finder to find like-minded players.

Useful Addons for Farming Service Medals

Farming Service Medals and tracking Warfront progress is much easier with a few quality-of-life addons. Below are the most useful tools for this grind.

  • World Quest Tracker: Displays all available world quests on a single panel, helping you quickly identify which quests award Service Medals.
  • HandyNotes – Battle for Azeroth (plugin): Shows Warfront locations, faction assault areas, and world quest locations on your map.
  • TomTom / Paste: Set waypoints to Warfront tables, vendors, and world quest locations.
  • SavedInstances: Tracks which characters have completed their Warfront quests and world quests for the week.
  • Leatrix Plus: Quality-of-life improvements like auto-repair, auto-sell junk, and faster interactions — small time savers that add up over a long grind.

Pro tip: Combine World Quest Tracker with HandyNotes to see all available Service Medal sources at a glance. This helps you plan your daily farming route efficiently.

The Sandy Nightsaber requires 350 Service Medals and a Heroic Darkshore clear. For players who prefer a guaranteed outcome without the time investment, a professionally managed Sandy Nightsaber acquisition service offers a structured alternative to manual farming.
