Rubyshell Krolusk Mount Guide

Updated 10 Aug 2026 | Author: Invord | ~9 min

The Rubyshell Krolusk is a striking, desert-adapted creature whose crimson carapace and sturdy, reptilian form embody the resilience and primal power of the Horde. Its deep red shell, powerful claws, and steady, ground-shaking stride make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a fierce, untamed aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its hardy origins: "Captured from the desolate sands of Vol'dun, this mount is surprisingly docile in captivity." For Horde players who value prestige and a connection to the unforgiving wilds of Zandalar, this mount is a true trophy — a symbol of your dedication to the Horde war effort.

Introduced in patch 8.1.0 "Tides of Vengeance", the Rubyshell Krolusk stands as one of the most prestigious Horde-exclusive rewards from the Warfront system. Unlike many rare mounts that rely on luck, this reward is earned through a combination of consistent effort, strategic currency farming, and dedication to the Horde cause. The krolusk is not just a mount — it is a symbol of your commitment to the Warfront campaign, a companion that carries the weight of your victories in one of Azeroth's most contested battlegrounds. For collectors who value reliability over RNG, this mount offers a clear and rewarding path, though one that requires patience, coordination, and a willingness to engage deeply with the Warfront system.

  • Added in patch: 8.1.0 "Tides of Vengeance"
  • Mount type: Ground
  • Source: Vendor purchase (Service Medals)
  • Faction: Horde only
  • Requirements: Level 50, Warfront access

How to Get Rubyshell Krolusk

Rubyshell Krolusk

The Rubyshell Krolusk is purchased from Provisioner Mukra in Dazar'alor for 200 Honorbound Service Medals. This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition — there is no RNG involved, no rare spawns to camp, and no low drop rates to overcome. Simply earn the required currency and buy the mount.

The vendor is located near the docks of Dazar'alor in Zuldazar. Use the following coordinates:

  • /way #862 51.23 95.1 — Provisioner Mukra

The mount is Bind-on-Pickup when purchased, and once learned, it is added to your account-wide collection. Because this mount is Horde-exclusive, Alliance players cannot purchase it directly. However, Alliance players who earn the corresponding achievement will receive the Azureshell Krolusk, which is the Alliance equivalent of this mount. Purchasing the Rubyshell Krolusk on a Horde character will automatically grant the Azureshell Krolusk for your Alliance characters as well.

Understanding Honorbound Service Medals

Honorbound Service Medals are the primary currency for the Warfront system. They are earned by completing various activities related to the Warfront campaign in Battle for Azeroth. The Rubyshell Krolusk requires a significant investment of these medals, so understanding how to earn them efficiently is key to acquiring the mount.

Warfronts are large-scale, 10-player PvE scenarios where you and your faction work together to capture resources, build structures, and siege the enemy base. They rotate weekly between the two Warfront zones: Arathi Highlands and Darkshore. Each Warfront has a different set of quests and activities that reward Service Medals.

As of The War Within prepatch, Service Medals are transferrable between all characters on your account (same faction only), so farming on multiple alts is highly recommended.

Unlocking Warfronts – The First Step

Before you can begin earning Service Medals, you must unlock access to the Warfront system. This requires progressing through the Battle for Azeroth endgame campaign.

Step 1 – Unlock World Quests

/way 58.44 62.64 – Nathanos Blightcaller

After completing these three steps, you should be able to access Warfront content and begin earning Service Medals.

Primary Sources of Honorbound Service Medals

Below is a breakdown of the most reliable sources for earning Honorbound Service Medals. Prioritising these activities will help you reach your goal of 200 medals as efficiently as possible.

Warfronts – The Largest Source

Warfronts award the most medals out of any activity. However, they require a premade group of 10 to queue. As such, it can be fairly difficult to find a group. Check different Group Finder channels and thematic Discord servers for faster group recruitment.

It is best to do the Heroic version of a warfront, as you will be able to complete the Normal and Heroic quests at the same time. You can pick these quests up from Throk at the Port of Dazar'alor:

/way #862 52.9 94.4 – Throk

Completing both Darkshore quests will earn you a total of 30 Service Medals. Completing both Stromgarde quests will get you 65 Service Medals in total.

World Quests – Daily Medals

Every day, there will be five new world quests you can complete in either Darkshore or Arathi Highlands, depending on which your faction currently owns. There is always a world boss up as well, but you can only kill it for Medals once per warfront cycle (2 weeks).

World boss

To get to Darkshore or Arathi Highlands, there is always a portal to the zone your faction controls at the docks between Throk and Provisioner Mukra.

Faction Assaults – Bonus Medals

Faction Assaults occur when either the Horde or Alliance forces invade an area of the opposite faction in Kul Tiras or Zandalar. They happen roughly once a day and last for seven hours. You can check if they're up by looking at the front page of Wowhead under the BFA section.

Faction Assaults

When you get to the area, you'll automatically be given a quest where you have to complete four faction assault world quests in the area. These quests will have the Horde symbol on their icons.

Faction Assaults

After completing four world quests, you will get to the final quest where you will be asked to do something unique for each zone. Once you've done the last step, you will receive 5 Service Medals.

Paragon Cache – Endgame Medals

The Honorbound Supplies cache is awarded every 10,000 reputation after reaching Exalted with The Honorbound. It always contains 20 Service Medals.

All the activities listed previously will also give you reputation with the Honorbound. In addition, you can farm more reputation by completing Honorbound world quests on Kul Tiras. These world quests reset daily.

Emissaries – Bonus Reputation

The emissary system selects one faction that you can earn bonus reputation and rewards from each day. Each emissary lasts for three days. You can check which reputations have emissaries by opening your map in Zandalar or Kul Tiras and looking at the bottom left corner.

Emissary system

To complete the emissary, simply complete four associated faction world quests. Then head to Ransa Greyfeather at the Port of Dazar'alor next to the Banshee's Wail:

The Value of Alts – Maximising Your Medal Farm

As of The War Within prepatch, Service Medals are transferrable between all characters on your account (same faction only). This makes farming on multiple Horde alts the fastest way to reach 200 Medals.

Why alts matter for Rubyshell Krolusk:

  • World Quests: Each Horde character can complete the five daily world quests in Darkshore or Arathi Highlands for additional Medals. With 5 alts, you can earn 5x the daily Medal income.
  • Faction Assaults: Each character can complete the assault quests for 5 Medals each time an assault is active. Assaults occur roughly once a day, so multiple characters multiply your gains.
  • Warfront Quests: While the Heroic warfront requires a group, each character can complete the Normal and Heroic quests for a large Medal boost when the warfront is active.
  • Paragon Caches: Each character can work toward their own Honorbound paragon caches, providing additional Medals.

Recommended alt strategy:

  • Have 3-5 Horde characters at level 50+ with World Quests and Warfront access unlocked.
  • Complete the daily world quests in Darkshore or Arathi Highlands on each character.
  • Participate in Faction Assaults on each character when they are active.
  • Pool all Service Medals via the Warband bank and purchase the mount on your main character.
  • Important: Service Medals are not transferrable cross-faction. You must farm on Horde characters to purchase this Horde-exclusive mount.
Building a stable of Horde alts for the Medal farm takes time. If you need to expand your roster quickly, a structured power leveling service is an alternative for players who want to maximise their efficiency with multiple characters.

Extra Tips and Common Mistakes

  • Don't forget the weekly quest on each alt: The weekly Warfront quests are your primary source of medals. Make sure to pick them up and complete them on every character capable of doing so.
  • Clear all Warfront world quests daily: World quests in the active Warfront zone award medals and take only a few minutes to complete. Do them every day they are available.
  • Check the mission table: Occasionally, your faction's mission table will offer missions that reward Honorbound Service Medals. Send your followers on these missions when they appear.
  • Don't spend medals on other items: If your goal is the Rubyshell Krolusk, avoid spending medals on other vendor items until you have reached 200. Stay focused on the mount.
  • This mount is Horde only: The Rubyshell Krolusk is only available to Horde characters. Alliance players looking for an equivalent mount should target the Azureshell Krolusk.

Useful Addons for Warfront Farming

Farming 200 Honorbound Service Medals requires consistent effort across multiple weeks and characters. The right addons can help you track your progress, optimise your daily routine, and ensure you never miss an opportunity to earn medals.

  • World Quest Tracker: Shows all available world quests on a single panel. Helps you quickly see which Warfront world quests are up without opening the map.
  • HandyNotes – Battle for Azeroth (plugin): Displays world quest locations, rare spawns, and treasure chests on your map. Essential for efficiently completing Warfront zone activities.
  • TomTom / Paste: Quickly set waypoints to quest givers, world quest locations, and vendor coordinates.
  • SavedInstances: Tracks which characters have completed which weekly quests and world quests. Useful if you are farming medals on multiple alts.
  • Leatrix Plus: Quality-of-life improvements like auto-repair, auto-sell junk, and faster interactions — small time savers that add up over a long grind.

Pro tip: Use World Quest Tracker to filter only Warfront zone world quests. This saves time and ensures you never miss a daily medal opportunity.
