The Lord of the Corpseflies is a grotesque, oversized insect mount whose bloated, decaying body and frantic wings embody the grim, opportunistic nature of Korthia's corpse-strewn battlefields. Its sickly green glow, chitinous armour, and the unsettling hum of its swarm make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a dark, insectoid aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its macabre nature: "The lord of the corpseflies is a bloated monstrosity, grown fat on the remains of the fallen." For collectors who value prestige and the thrill of a rare drop with a unique hatching mechanic, this mount is a true trophy — a symbol of your dedication to the Necrolord Covenant and your mastery over the corpse-strewn fields of Korthia.
Introduced in patch 9.1.0 "Chains of Domination", the Lord of the Corpseflies is one of the most unique mount farms in the Shadowlands, combining a low drop rate with a three-day hatching mechanic. Summoning the rare requires a coordinated effort to gather corpses for a ritual, and the daily lockout means every attempt counts. For players who enjoy the thrill of a rare drop and don't mind a touch of patience while their prize incubates, the Lord of the Corpseflies offers a challenging but deeply rewarding goal.
The Lord of the Corpseflies is obtained from the Small Corpsefly Egg, which has a 0.8% drop chance from the Fleshwing rare in Korthia. Fleshwing can only be summoned by a member of the Necrolord Covenant, and the egg can only be looted by a Necrolord as well. However, the mount itself can be ridden by any Covenant once learned.
Important: The rare has a daily loot lockout per character, meaning you can only loot Fleshwing once per day. Using multiple Necrolord alts can significantly increase your daily attempts.
If you are not already a member of the Necrolord Covenant, you must first join them. This becomes available after you complete the main Shadowlands campaign and finish the quest Choosing Your Purpose in Oribos, where you pledge your allegiance to a covenant. The Necrolord Covenant is essential for this mount, as Fleshwing can only be summoned by its members.
You must complete the quest Welcome To Our House and the basic tasks that unlock the sanctum Seat of the Primus.
To unlock Korthia, you must first complete chapter 2 of your chosen covenant campaign after your first meeting with Ve'nari and rescuing Baine Bloodhoof from Torghast. Then, you will have to do the second chapter of the 9.1 campaign which starts with Opening the Maw. Completing each of the chapter 2 quests will unlock features in Korthia. The 6th quest, Opening to Oribos, will unlock a portal to Korthia on the top floor of Oribos so you will have an easy way to get back in the future.
To trigger the Fleshwing rare, speak to Cadaverous in Korthia.
If Cadaverous is present and you can speak to him, the rare can be spawned. If he is not there, wait roughly 15 minutes — the event was likely summoned recently.
Once the event is started, Cadaverous will yell "Search every crevice for the necromancers' corpses!" in zone-wide chat. You will need to find Restless Necromancer corpses in the area.
Click the corpses to pick them up and bring them back to the pile to throw them on. Once the Corpse Heap bar is filled, the smell will attract Fleshwing. Kill Fleshwing for a chance to loot the Small Corpsefly Egg.
If you are lucky enough to get the Small Corpsefly Egg, you will need to wait three days for it to hatch. After the three days are up, it will become a Hatching Corpsefly Egg, which you can right-click in your inventory to open and receive the Lord of the Corpseflies mount.
Since Fleshwing has a daily loot lockout per character, the best way to improve your odds of obtaining the Small Corpsefly Egg is to use multiple Necrolord alts. Each additional character gives you one more chance per day to see the egg drop.
Why alts matter for Lord of the Corpseflies:
Recommended alt strategy:
Farming Fleshwing requires daily visits to Korthia and efficient tracking of the summoning event. The right addons can help you stay organised.
Pro tip: Use SavedInstances to track which of your Necrolord alts have already killed Fleshwing for the day. This ensures you don't miss any attempts.
