The Kua'fon's Harness is more than just a mount — it's a companion you raise from an egg, a pterrordax hatchling that grows into a loyal flying companion through daily care and attention. Its vibrant feathers, proud posture, and the bond you form with it over the course of the quest chain make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a personal story. The flavour text speaks to its unique journey: "Once a little hatchling, raised into a mighty pterrordax by a loving handler. He never did learn to fly." For Horde players who value a connection to their mount and enjoy the satisfaction of a long-term commitment, Kua'fon is a true treasure — a companion that carries the spirit of Pa'ku himself.
Introduced in patch 8.0.1 "Battle for Azeroth", Kua'fon's Harness is a Horde-exclusive mount obtained through a multi-week quest chain that begins with a rare drop from wild pterrordaxes in Zuldazar. Unlike many mounts that rely on RNG or weekly lockouts, this mount is a guaranteed reward for completing a series of daily quests over approximately one month. The journey takes you from a fragile egg to a fully grown pterrordax — but the mount cannot fly until you complete the Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part Two achievement. For collectors who enjoy nurturing a companion and watching it grow, Kua'fon offers a uniquely personal and rewarding experience.
The Kua'fon's Harness is obtained by completing a multi-stage quest chain that begins with finding a Pterrordax Egg in Zuldazar. This quest chain is exclusive to Horde players, but once the mount is learned, it becomes account-wide and can be used by Alliance characters as well.
The journey from egg to mount takes approximately one month of daily quests. Since Kua'fon's progress bar is not a reputation, you cannot speed up the process — you must complete each day's quests as they become available. This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition if you are willing to commit to the daily routine.
Tip: While the Pterrordax Egg is a rare drop, farming it in a group can significantly speed up the process. Once you have the egg, the rest of the chain is deterministic and requires only daily commitment.
To begin your journey with Kua'fon, you first need to obtain a Pterrordax Egg. This item drops from various pterrordax mobs throughout Zuldazar, with the best spot being a cluster of Bloodraged Pterrordax in the northern part of Dazar'alor.
Important: Dazar'alor is considered its own zone within Zuldazar. If you are manually typing a waypoint without a zone ID, make sure you are in the city of Dazar'alor first, or you will not get the right coordinates.
The egg is a rare drop, so you may need to spend a few hours farming. Consider doing this in a group to speed up your efforts. The egg is Bind-on-Pickup, so you must farm it on the character you intend to complete the quest chain with.
Once you have the egg, it will start the quest A Child of Pa'ku. Follow the questline, and shortly after, you will end up tending to your hatchling. At this point, you will have one daily quest per day, along with occasional straightforward non-repeatable quests each time Kua'fon grows.
The quest chain unfolds over several stages as Kua'fon matures:
Initially, Kua'fon cannot fly. The mount is ground-only when you first obtain it, and its ability to fly is tied to the Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder, Part Two achievement.
If you have already earned this achievement, you will receive a quest from Pa'ku that unlocks Kua'fon's flying ability through some questionable means. This quest becomes available after you obtain the mount.
Farming the Pterrordax Egg and tracking daily quests is much easier with a few helpful addons.
Pro tip: Use Rarity to track your egg farming progress. It adds a fun layer of motivation to the grind and lets you see how many kills you've made.
