Ivory Cloud Serpent Mount Guide

Updated 30 Mar 2026 | Author: Invord | ~5 min

The Ivory Cloud Serpent is one of the more unique mounts from Battle for Azeroth, obtained not through combat, but through a special capture mechanic. Unlike most rare mounts, you do not kill the creature - instead, you must use a specific item to tame it mid-air, making the process feel closer to a mini-event than a traditional farm.

Visually, the mount features a clean white cloud serpent model inspired by Pandaria aesthetics, making it especially appealing to collectors who enjoy celestial or classic serpent designs. While the mount itself is guaranteed once captured, the real challenge comes from obtaining the required item and correctly executing the capture mechanic during a limited spawn window.

  • Added in patch: 8.3.0 "Visions of N'Zoth"
  • Mount type: Flying
  • Source: Rare interaction
  • Core requirement: Zan-Tien Lasso
  • Repeat attempts: Unlimited, depends on spawn timing

How to get Ivory Cloud Serpent

Ivory Cloud Serpent

To obtain the Ivory Cloud Serpent, you must first get the Zan-Tien Lasso, and then use it to capture the serpent when it appears during the Mogu Assault in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. The mount is guaranteed once the capture is successful, but both the item drop and the spawn timing require some preparation.

Waiting for the correct assault, farming the lasso, and timing the capture can take multiple attempts. If you want to skip the setup and get the mount quickly, our Ivory Cloud Serpent service ensures a fast and smooth unlock without missed spawns.

Vale of Eternal Blossoms Unlock

Before you can farm the mount, you must unlock the 8.3 corrupted Vale phase. This requires progressing through the Battle for Azeroth campaign and unlocking World Quests.

You’ll need to unlock World Quests, to do that you will need to be Friendly with Voldunai, Zandalari Empire and Talanji's Expedition for Horde or Storm's Wake, Order of Embers, Proudmoore Admiralty. Once done head to your factions ship in Port of Dazar'alor or Boralus.

After that, begin the Nazjatar introduction:

Complete the Nazjatar intro and continue with Magni’s questline starting from Essential Empowerment.

Eventually, you will unlock the 8.3 storyline:

Once completed, the corrupted Vale and assault system will be unlocked.

Obtaining Zan-Tien Lasso

The Zan-Tien Lasso drops from Mogu enemies across the Vale during Patch 8.3 content. The drop is not tied to a specific assault, meaning you can farm it regardless of whether Mogu, Mantid, or N’zoth assaults are active, but the drop rate is relatively low, so expect to spend some time farming mobs before obtaining it.

Capturing the Ivory Cloud Serpent

Once you have the Zan-Tien Lasso, you need to wait for the Mogu Assault to be active. The Ivory Cloud Serpent will only spawn during this assault and cannot appear during Mantid or N’zoth phases. It spawns high in the sky northeast of Setting Sun Garrison and follows a fixed clockwise flight path around the zone. The most reliable strategy is to position yourself at the spawn point and prepare to use the item immediately.

The capture process requires you to target the serpent and channel the lasso without moving. The item can be used while mounted, but any movement will interrupt the cast. Druids should avoid Flight Form, as it prevents proper use of the item.

The best approach would be to wait at it’s spawn location and spam a macro to use the item once it spawns.

Lasso usage

While attempting the capture, you may be hit by airborne enemies that apply slow effects, but staying at the correct altitude — roughly the height of the nearby mountain ridge — minimizes this issue. If you miss the spawn and the serpent continues along its path, a quick way to reset is to dismount and die, removing slow stacks, then reposition along its route and wait for it to circle back.

If other players are present, do not worry. After one player successfully captures the serpent, it remains active for a few additional seconds, allowing multiple players to complete the interaction before it despawns.

Useful Add-ons for Ivory Cloud Serpent

This mount is all about timing and positioning rather than difficulty, so addons that improve awareness and targeting are especially valuable. Tracking the spawn, reacting quickly, and minimizing downtime between attempts will significantly increase your success rate.

  • RareScanner: Alerts you instantly when the serpent spawns
  • TomTom: Helps mark spawn points and flight paths
  • HandyNotes: Useful for tracking Vale activities and locations
  • Leatrix Maps: Improves navigation across the Vale

RareScanner combined with TomTom provides the best setup, ensuring you never miss a spawn and can react immediately when the serpent appears.
