The Inkscale Deepseeker is a magnificent teal-grey hippocampus, a sleek and powerful aquatic mount whose muscular chest and streamlined form embody the ferocity of the tidestallions of Nazjatar. Its shimmering scales, powerful fins, and predatory grace make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a wild, oceanic aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its fearsome nature: “Schools of tidestallions will viciously slam their muscular chests into their prey to take them down.” For collectors who value prestige and are willing to venture into the dangers of War Mode, this mount is a true trophy — a creature of the deep that carries the spirit of the Nazjatar conflict.
Introduced in patch 8.2.0 “Rise of Azshara”, the Inkscale Deepseeker stands as one of the most prestigious PvP-related rewards from the Nazjatar zone. Unlike random drops or rare spawns, this mount is a guaranteed purchase from faction-specific vendors for 150 Nazjatar Battle Commendations. These commendations are earned through PvP activities in War Mode, making this mount a testament to your willingness to embrace the dangers of world PvP. While the journey requires patience and a tolerance for enemy players, the reward is one of the most striking aquatic mounts from the Battle for Azeroth era. For collectors who value reliability over RNG — and are ready to fight for it — this mount is a perfect and ambitious goal.
The Inkscale Deepseeker is purchased from faction-specific vendors for 150 Nazjatar Battle Commendation. This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition — there is no RNG involved, no rare spawns to camp, and no low drop rates to overcome. Simply earn the required currency and buy the mount.
Both vendors are located in their respective faction hubs and are clearly marked as PvP Quartermasters. The mount is Bind-on-Pickup when purchased, and once learned, it is added to your account-wide collection. It requires Apprentice Riding (level 1 riding skill) to use and can only be summoned underwater.
Before you can begin earning Nazjatar Battle Commendations, you must first unlock the Nazjatar zone. This requires progressing through the Battle for Azeroth endgame campaign.
Step 1 – Unlock World Quests
You will need to reach level 50 and become Friendly with the three main zone factions of your faction:
Once you have World Quests unlocked, head to your faction's ship in the Port of Dazar'alor (Horde) or Boralus (Alliance). Look for the quest to start the Nazjatar campaign. The starting NPCs are:
Follow the questline, and you will quickly arrive in Nazjatar. Complete approximately 9 quests to finish the introduction. Once Magni Bronzebeard arrives, it is time to start his quest chain, beginning with Essential Empowerment. You will head to the Chamber of Heart in Silithus, then to Neltharion's Lair in Highmountain. Complete the scenario, return to the Chamber, and you will unlock essences for your Heart of Azeroth.
After completing this, you will be sent back to Nazjatar. Follow the available quests until you unlock world quests in Nazjatar. At this point, you will have most features of the zone unlocked.
Nazjatar Battle Commendations can only be obtained with War Mode enabled. You can toggle War Mode on in Orgrimmar, Stormwind, or any other capital city via the bottom right of your talents page. War Mode enables world PvP, meaning you can be killed by opposing faction players anywhere in the world except rest areas. War Mode can be toggled off in any rest area.
The most effective way of earning Nazjatar Battle Commendations is by killing and looting rare mobs in Nazjatar. All rares have a guaranteed chance of dropping a Commendation, and you can farm the same one multiple times. With the hotfix from May 2020, rare elite creatures in Nazjatar with War Mode enabled now drop one Nazjatar Battle Commendation per kill.
Below is a map of most of the rares and their coordinates. Rares with multiple spawn points were not included due to clutter, but they are covered later in this guide. Additionally, the blue stars indicate which rares have spawn quirks — defined as rares that require more effort than simply finding and killing them.

Several rares in Nazjatar do not have fixed spawn locations and can appear in various spots across the zone. Below is a comprehensive list of these rares, their general spawn areas, and tips for finding them efficiently.
| Rare Name | Spawn Area | Finding Tips |
|---|---|---|
| Amethyst Spireshell | Widespread across the map, often in high places or caves | Use a /tar Amethyst Spireshell macro while flying. If not found, kill Sea Spireshells/Prismatic Spireshells (high density in Bloodfin Village). |
| Daggertooth Terror | Water bodies across the zone (rivers, lakes, shallow water) | Always spawns in water. Check all rivers and lakes, including surprisingly shallow areas. |
| Garnetscale | Ashen Strand area (western part of the map) | All spawn points are condensed to this area. Kill Razorshell Turtles if the rare is not present. |
| Mirecrawler | Widespread across the map | Similar to Amethyst Spireshell — can spawn in many locations. Kill Sea Spireshells and Muck Creepers (especially in Ashen Strand). |
| Needlespine | Top half of the map, near water | Clustered around the river and lake area east of Zanj'ir Terrace and south of Gate of the Queen. |
| Sandclaw Stoneshell | Northwestern part of the map | Found around Drowned Market, Zin'Azshari, and Kal'methir areas. |
| Shiz'narasz the Consumer | Chitterspine Caverns (water areas around Gate of the Queen) | Only spawns in water within the Chitterspine Caverns region. |
| Toxigore the Alpha | Nar'anan area (south of Kal'Methir) | Only spawns in the Nar'anan region. |
Commendations can also be earned through a couple more methods. The first is via War Supply Chests that drop roughly every 30 minutes. An NPC will announce them when they spawn, and you will see a small plane icon on your map which you can use to track where it will land. When it lands, it will emit a large beam of light, and you have to channel opening the chest to claim it for your faction.
Secondly, they can be earned through a world event only available in War Mode called Battle for Nazjatar and the weekly PvP world quest that comes with it. This event only comes up when there is a good mix of Horde and Alliance in Nazjatar. Unfortunately, now that the zone is less active, it does not spawn very often.
When the zone doesn't have enough players for the Battle, the Azshara's Elite Commanders event will spawn instead. When this event comes up, you will get a message in your chat informing you that the naga commanders have appeared. Additionally, you should be able to see five little purple skulls on your map. These skulls are the locations of the Elite Commanders, and killing each of the five will award a Commendation.
After obtaining 150 Nazjatar Battle Commendations, fly to your faction's quartermaster:
Interact with the vendor, select the mount from their inventory, and purchase it for 150 Commendations. The mount will be added to your collection immediately.
Farming Nazjatar Battle Commendations efficiently requires knowing which rares are up, tracking spawn timers, and optimising your farming route. The right addons can save you hundreds of hours.
Pro tip: Combine RareScanner with TomTom for maximum efficiency. RareScanner alerts you when a rare spawns, and TomTom helps you navigate to its location quickly. Use SavedInstances to track which rares you have already killed to avoid wasting time on repeats that may have a longer respawn timer.
