Hand of Nilganihmaht is one of the most recognizable secret mounts from Shadowlands - a creepy, domination-infused floating hand that you earn through a ritual chain in the Maw and Korthia. This mount is not about raid lockouts or a single lucky drop. Instead, it is a multi-system checklist where each step pushes you into different types of content: assaults, rift phasing, rare summoning, treasure hunting, and some light parkour.
What makes this mount especially desirable for collectors is that it feels like a true "secret hunt" experience. You are collecting five unique rings, each with its own rules and requirements, and then you literally place them on the Hand to unlock the final quest. It is also a great throwback mount for players who enjoy long-form goals - but it can be time-gated if you miss the right assault rotation or if you are not prepared with the necessary reputations.
Hand of Nilganihmaht is obtained by collecting five rings from various activities in the Maw (and the Rift phase tied to Korthia) and then placing the rings on the NPC Hand of Nilganihmaht the final quest reward. The mount can be earned almost entirely solo - the only true exception is one step where you need two other players to summon specific rares.
Before you start farming rings, it is worth preparing your character properly. If you skip the prerequisites, you can easily hit a progression wall and waste time traveling back and forth. The sections below cover the requirements first, then the exact steps for each ring, and finally the ritual to claim the mount.
This mount chain becomes dramatically easier once you have the right access unlocked. Treat this as your setup checklist. Even if you want to brute force everything, these points prevent "hard stops" where the next step is simply impossible.
Accessing the Maw requires completing the Shadowlands introductory campaign. If this is your first venture into Shadowlands content, follow this progression path:
Campaign Requirements:
After completing these questlines, you can access the Maw at any time by jumping into the Soul Pillar (glowing center) from the Ring of Transference on the second level of Oribos.
If you are new to the Maw, you will need to increase your reputation with Ve’nari to the third level known as Tentative. When you reach this level, Ve’nari will offer the quest Rule 5: Be Audacious. After completion, you gain access to Perdition Hold. This matters because an important gate required later cannot be opened if you do not have access to that area.
While not strictly required, it is highly recommended to raise reputation one level higher to reach Ambivalent. This unlocks the Beastwarrens via Rule 6: Concealment is Everything and prevents the Otherworldly Screeching debuff from punishing you with heavy damage and random fears while traversing the Beastwarrens.
You also need to reach Tier 4 with the Archivist’s Codex faction in Korthia. At Tier 4 you unlock the ability to purchase Repaired Riftkeys. Riftkeys allow you to access the Rift, a separate phase of the Maw and Korthia. This is the standard way for solo players to enter the Rift.
If you have a friend, you can sometimes bypass the Tier 4 requirement if they have Collapsing Riftstone. It can bring multiple players into the Rift but is relatively rare, so do not rely on it as your primary plan.
Rift Portal (entrance to the Rift phase). Several can be found around Korthia.

Now that the prerequisites are handled, you can focus on collecting the five rings. The order below follows an efficient "least gated to most gated" route, so you can make progress even if you are waiting for a specific assault rotation.
This ring is a chain inside Perdition Hold that begins with collecting four different Quartered Ancient Rings, then forging them into a single ring at a forge in the Maw.
Important: the first part is only available when there is a Necrolord assault active in the Maw, specifically when the quest Putting A Plan Together is available. Assaults rotate twice a week, so you might need to wait for the correct cycle.
This quest is required because it grants access to the Overcharged Centurion vehicle. You may have to complete other Maw assault quests first before this one appears, so plan some extra time for the assault chain.
Once you have the vehicle, use it to get on top of the walls of Perdition Hold. You are hunting for Mawsworn Caches. A rare/treasure addon like RareScanner or SilverDragon helps here because caches can be easy to miss while moving quickly on the walls.
There are nine confirmed cache locations. Use the dropdown to copy TomTom waypoints.

Quartered Ancient Ring #1: Looted from Mawsworn Caches while you are inside the Overcharged Centurion. You can open caches outside the vehicle, but you will not be able to loot the ring that way. The drop is not guaranteed, so expect to open multiple caches.
Quartered Ancient Ring #2: Also from Mawsworn Caches. You need to loot a Defense Map item (not guaranteed), which starts the quest Clearing the Walls. Completing that quest awards another ring. Good news: you can share this quest with friends, so group play can speed it up.
Quartered Ancient Ring #3: Found on the ground around Perdition Hold. Many players find it near the vases by Shadeweaver Zeris, but it can spawn in multiple locations. Below is a set of confirmed waypoints. This is not exhaustive, so if none work, keep scanning the area.

Quartered Ancient Ring #4: Dropped by the Maw Mad Construct. This NPC only spawns after you have looted at least one of the other rings. It runs around Perdition Hold yelling your character’s name, then despawns if not killed quickly. If you miss it, it respawns again a few minutes later.
The easiest method is to stand near the center of Perdition Hold (many players wait near Draka) and watch chat for your name. You can then quickly locate it using a simple target macro. Note: the Construct does not trigger standard rare-alert addons.
After collecting all four Quartered Ancient Rings, you must forge them into Nilganihmaht’s Stone Ring. Go to Zovaal’s Cauldron (closest region to Ve’nari’s Refuge) and find a Soulsteel Forge.
Closest Soulsteel Forge: /way #1543 41.8 42.2
When standing close enough, right-click and use one of the rings in your inventory to forge the final Stone Ring.
To get this ring, you must kill the rare Torglluun in the Maw. The ring has a high (often considered near-guaranteed) chance to drop. This rare can also drop the toy Bottled Shade Heart.
Torglluun can only be accessed in the Rift phase. Use a Repaired Riftkey on a Rift portal in Korthia and travel to the rare’s location. If you want to speed up travel, you can use a Cypher of Relocation to return to Ve’nari’s Refuge. Engineers can also use Wormhole Generator: Shadowlands for convenient teleports.
Waypoint: /way #1543 28.67 25.04 - Torglluun
If Torglluun is not alive on your shard, try turning War Mode on and checking again. The estimated respawn time is about 40-60 minutes, so shard hopping often saves time.
This ring is earned through a simple parkour climb in the Maw. It is doable for all classes - you do not need extreme mobility (though it helps). The ring is on top of a large hill overlooking the Crucible of the Damned and Calcis. You can even recognize the rock formation on your map.
Take your time, watch for safe ledges, and do not be afraid to reset your angle - the climb is about patience more than speed.
This ring has a high (often near-guaranteed) drop chance from Exos, Herald of Domination. Exos is located at the very top of Domination Keep in Perdition Hold. To reach him, you must use Domination’s Calling. It does not spawn Exos - it summons a portal that takes you up to Exos’s platform.
You do not have to use your own Domination’s Calling - a friend can use theirs to help. Note that the item has a 24-hour cooldown, so coordinating with friends can remove a big delay here.
To craft Domination’s Calling, you must combine three parts looted from other rares. The parts have a high (often near-guaranteed) chance to drop:
Herald locations:
Important: all three Heralds require three players to summon. This is the unsoloable part of the mount. The three players must stand on three of the four designated spots (north, west, south, east) and channel the Convocation until the rare spawns. If mobs are channeling on the spots, kill them and take their place.
You can tell the rare is available if the summoning spots have a bluish-grey mist. If there is no mist, it may be on cooldown or recently summoned on your shard.
Once Domination’s Calling is crafted, head to the inner Altar of Domination (underground, inside a cave):
/way #1543 23.1 68.7
Stand in the center of the room and use Domination’s Calling. After a short channel, a portal spawns - take it up, kill Exos, and loot the ring.
The final ring comes from the locked Domination Sealed Chest. The chest is inside a cage with additional locks, and you must obtain four Seal Breaker Keys to open it.
The first key comes from the rare elite Ylva in the Desmotaeron section of the Maw. Ylva has a high chance to drop Feeder’s Hand and Key, which you open to find the Seal Breaker Key inside.
Ylva’s respawn time is estimated to be about an hour. If you have trouble finding her, some players complete the nearby world quest Containing the Helsworn and then check again in War Mode.
Waypoint: /way #1543 66.4 42.0
The second key has a low 2% chance to drop from any Maldraxxi Defector mob in Desmotaeron. This is a grind component, so it is best to combine it with other Desmotaeron activities to avoid doing multiple loops.
The third key can be found inside Helgarde Supply Caches throughout Desmotaeron. The key has a high chance to drop. These caches do not show on your minimap, and they do not reliably get tracked by standard rare/treasure addons, so this is mostly a visual search route.

The fourth key is found on a key ring mounted on a wall inside a cave. It is on the wall to the right of Kjellrun. If you do not see it, someone likely looted it recently - it typically respawns in 2-5 minutes.
Once all four keys are collected, open the Domination Sealed Chest. The chest is in a small nook in Desmotaeron, almost under a staircase:
/way #1543 66.1 57.5
With all five rings obtained, it is time to complete the ritual. First, enter the Rift phase via a Rift portal in Korthia. Then travel to the cave known as Hollow of the Insolent in the section of the Maw commonly called the Planes of Torment.
In the very back of the cave you will see the NPC Hand of Nilganihmaht.
Interact with the five transparent yellow click points (one per finger) and place each ring. After that, you can pick up the quest Gotta Hand It To Ya, which awards the mount.
Congratulations - you have earned Hand of Nilganihmaht.
This secret mount is mostly about route efficiency, rare tracking, and getting to the right place at the right time. These addons save a lot of time, especially if you are doing the chain solo or shard hopping for rare spawns.
Mount hunting is one of those World of Warcraft goals that looks simple on paper, but becomes time-consuming because of travel, old content access, and annoying details like zone phasing. We focus on turning that “messy” part into a clear plan: correct routes, correct phases, and the exact order of steps - so progress is consistent.
If you’re collecting across expansions, efficiency matters. The fastest collectors aren’t just lucky - they minimize downtime. That’s the same approach we apply to every mount route, from secret chains like this one to raids, reputations, and time-gated grinds.
