Elusive Quickhoof Mount Guide

Updated 04 Jan 2026 | Author: Invord | ~5 min

The Reins of the Elusive Quickhoof is one of the most satisfying “open world” mounts from Battle for Azeroth - not because it has a low drop chance, but because the real challenge is actually finding the rare in time. Once you locate the NPC and bring the correct food, the mount is awarded on a guaranteed interaction.

This farm is all about preparation and coverage - the rare only stays up for a short window, spawns at multiple points across Vol'dun, and has a long respawn. If you want to get it with minimal wasted time, you should arrive with the food ready, set up waypoints, and (ideally) scout with a group.

  • Added in patch: 8.3.0 "Visions of N'Zoth"
  • Type: Ground
  • Source: Rare NPC interaction
  • Requirements: Level 20
  • Repeat attempts: 2-6 Hours

How to get Elusive Quickhoof

Elusive Quickhoof

To get this mount, you need to find Elusive Quickhoof in Vol'dun and feed it the correct item: Seaside Leafy Greens Mix. The moment you complete the dialogue interaction, you receive Reins of the Elusive Quickhoof with a 100% success rate.

Want a clean, no-stress acquisition? Our team can handle the spawn scouting and coordination for you - see our Elusive Quickhoof mount service.

Step 1 - Get Seaside Leafy Greens Mix

You should buy the food before you start hunting spawns. The required item is:

This is a standard vendor item that can be purchased in Vol'dun (for example at Tortaka Refuge), and it’s also sold by various “general goods” style vendors in major hubs - including the vendor on the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur if you have access to one.

Important: keep the food in your bags at all times while scouting. When the rare spawns, you only have a short window to reach it, interact, and complete the dialogue.

Step 2 - Find Elusive Quickhoof in Vol'dun

Elusive Quickhoof has a long respawn (commonly reported in the range of 2-6 hours) and typically remains available for only about 10 minutes after appearing. The good news is that it’s not limited to one player - during that active window, any number of players can interact and get the mount.

The hard part is coverage: it can appear at multiple spawn locations across Vol'dun. Solo scanning is possible, but you will miss spawns if you can’t cover enough points fast enough.

Best approach: create or join a group in the Group Finder and assign each player a few spawn points to watch. This drastically reduces the chance you miss a spawn and makes the farm feel consistent instead of random.

Recommended Waypoints (TomTom)

If you use TomTom, you can quickly mark common spawn areas with a single macro. Paste this into chat once you are in Vol'dun:

  • TomTom macro:
    /run if TomTom then for _,v in next,({{26,52},{28,65},{31,67},{42,60},{43,69},{51,85},{52,89},{54,83},{54,53},{55,73}})do TomTom:AddWaypoint(864,v[1]/100,v[2]/100,{title="Alpaca"})end;end

This will place a route of waypoints across the map so you can move point-to-point efficiently without constantly checking external maps.

Targeting Macro (Don’t Miss the Spawn)

Even when you’re close, the rare can be easy to overlook - especially if you’re distracted or terrain blocks line of sight. Keep a simple targeting macro ready and spam it while moving between points:

  • Target macro:
    /tar Elusive Quickhoof

If the target is nearby, you’ll lock onto it instantly and can run straight to the NPC instead of visually searching for it.

Step 3 - Feed the Rare and Loot the Mount

Once you find Elusive Quickhoof, interact with it and complete the dialogue option that uses Seaside Leafy Greens Mix. After the interaction finishes, you’ll be awarded:

There’s no need to tag or “fight” anything - the entire reward is tied to the successful feed interaction.

Extra Tips

  • Scout during off-hours: fewer players means less competition for attention and less visual clutter at spawn points.
  • Use a group with assignments: 3-5 players watching different points is the fastest way to convert this into a reliable farm.
  • Always keep the food ready: don’t waste the spawn window traveling to a vendor after you finally spot it.

Essential Addons for Efficient Hunting

Because this mount is all about timing and coverage, addons that reduce “search friction” make a real difference:

  • TomTom: The best tool for waypoint routes - perfect for rotating through multiple spawn points efficiently.
  • RareScanner: Helpful audio/visual alerts when rares appear nearby, reducing the chance you ride past the spawn.
  • HandyNotes: Great for marking spawn areas (and keeping your map clean and readable long-term).
  • Premade Groups Filter: Makes it easier to quickly find or list mount-hunting groups without wasting time scrolling.

Combine these with the simple /tar Elusive Quickhoof macro and you’ll have a setup that’s focused on speed and consistency, not luck.
