Chosen Tauralus Mount Guide

Updated 17 Sep 2026 | Author: Invord | ~12 min

The Chosen Tauralus is a formidable, battle-ready beast whose massive horns and muscular frame embody the raw strength of the House of the Chosen. Its unarmored hide, piercing gaze, and the quiet confidence it exudes make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a primal, militaristic aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its natural weaponry: "Even an unarmored tauralus is a valuable ally in battle, its enormous horns capable of piercing even plate armor." For collectors who value prestige and the satisfaction of a long-term crafting project, this mount is a true trophy — a symbol of your mastery over the Abomination Factory and your dedication to the Necrolord Covenant.

Introduced in patch 9.0.1 as part of the Shadowlands expansion, the Chosen Tauralus is one of the most time-consuming mounts in the game, rewarding only those who are willing to commit to a lengthy crafting project. The achievement requires stitching together 16 construct companions, but the real challenge lies in gathering the enormous amount of resources needed: tens of thousands of Anima, over a hundred Redeemed Souls, and Superior Parts that are gated behind weekly quests. This is not a mount you can rush — it's a long-term project that demands patience, planning, and consistent daily effort. For collectors who don't mind a marathon and want a mount that truly reflects their dedication, the Chosen Tauralus is one of the most satisfying rewards in the Shadowlands.

  • Added in patch: 9.0.1 "Shadowlands"
  • Mount type: Ground
  • Source: Achievement reward
  • Covenant: Necrolord only
  • Time to complete: 2-4 weeks (depending on material farming)

How to Get Chosen Tauralus

Chosen Tauralus

The Chosen Tauralus is awarded upon completing the The Gang's All Here achievement, which requires you to stitch all 16 construct companions at the Abomination Factory. This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition — there is no RNG involved, no rare spawns to camp, and no low drop rates to overcome. Simply craft all 16 constructs, and the mount is yours.

Important Note on Covenant: This mount is exclusive to the Necrolord Covenant. At first, the mount could only be summoned by Necrolord characters. However, after the release of Dragonflight and the introduction of the Warband system, access was unlocked account-wide upon reaching Renown 80 with the Necrolords. This means you can use it on any character once you've earned it.

Tip: The hardest part of this achievement is gathering enough Superior Parts, which are time-gated behind weekly quests. Start collecting them as early as possible, and build other constructs first to increase your weekly quest count.

Step 1: Join the Necrolord Covenant

If you are not already a member of the Necrolord Covenant, you must first join them. This becomes available after you complete the main Shadowlands campaign and finish the quest Choosing Your Purpose in Oribos, where you pledge your allegiance to a covenant. The Necrolord Covenant is essential for this mount, as the Abomination Factory is exclusive to its members.

You must complete the quest Welcome To Our House and the basic tasks that unlock the sanctum Seat of the Primus.

Step 2: Unlock and Upgrade the Abomination Factory

The Abomination Factory is a unique Necrolord Covenant feature that allows you to stitch together construct companions from the souls you rescue in the Shadowlands. To unlock it, head inside the Seat of the Primus and speak to Arkadia Moa in the main hall on the left side, near the Renown Quartermaster. She handles all Sanctum Upgrades.

To complete the achievement, you must upgrade your Abomination Factory to Rank 5. The total cost for all upgrades is 44,000 Reservoir Anima and 150 Redeemed Souls, and it will take approximately 85 hours of research time in total. This is a significant investment, so plan accordingly.

Farming Redeemed Souls

Redeemed Souls are a time-gated currency used for Covenant Sanctum upgrades. They are primarily earned through the weekly quest Return Lost Souls, which you can pick up from Osbourne Black, the Soul Warden, in the main hall on the right side of the Seat of the Primus.

To complete the quest, you must head to the Maw via the pillar at the top of Oribos. Once there, look for Imprisoned, Caged, Wailing, or Aimless Soul mobs and rescue 20 of them. After turning in the quest, you can immediately pick it up again for another 20 souls. This makes Redeemed Souls infinitely farmable, though the process is repetitive.

Return Lost Souls

Farming Reservoir Anima

Anima is the lifeblood of the Shadowlands, and it flows from nearly every activity you can imagine. Whether you're questing, raiding, or simply exploring, you'll constantly accumulate this currency. For the 44,000 Anima needed to fully upgrade your Abomination Factory, you'll want to focus on the most efficient sources to avoid an endless grind.

The fastest way to get a large chunk of Anima is by defeating all three Shadowlands world bosses, provided you've unlocked Korthia and Zereth Mortis:

  • Rotating World Boss: Cycles between Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, Revendreth, and Bastion.
  • Mor'geth: Always available in the Desmotaeron section of the Maw.
  • Antros: Always available in Zereth Mortis.

Completing all three will net you a total of 1,500 Anima. However, there's a catch: you only receive the Anima from the associated world quest. If the world quest isn't active, killing the boss will not reward you with any Anima.

Raids are another excellent source of Anima. Bosses have a very high chance to drop it, and you can expect at least 500 Anima per raid — often more. As a bonus, you'll also have chances at rare raid mounts while you're at it.

If you're looking for something more frequent to grind, farming rares in Zereth Mortis is highly recommended. They have a very high chance to drop Anima in generous amounts. Treasures are also decent, and Korthia as a whole is another great place to farm — from its rares, dailies, and treasures. Finally, you can always fly around completing Anima world quests on your map. Shadowlands world quests change daily, so there will regularly be new ones available.

Farming Superior Parts

Superior Parts are the most difficult material to obtain for this achievement. They are generally locked behind weekly quests you get from your construct companions at the Stitchyard. Most of these quests are centered around Maldraxxus, but you may have to travel to other Shadowlands zones occasionally. The more constructs you create, the more weekly quests you'll have access to, which directly increases your Superior Parts income.

The only other way to obtain Superior Parts is through missions at your Covenant adventure table. This table requires 500 Anima and 1 Redeemed Soul to unlock, and can be purchased from Arkadia Moa. You will also need to progress through the "adventure campaign" missions until you reach level 8 to see Superior Parts missions appear.

Farming Malleable Flesh

Malleable Flesh is the easiest of the three materials to obtain. It has a chance to drop from most mobs throughout the Shadowlands, so you'll naturally accumulate it as you play. You can also receive Flesh from Salvaged Supplies boxes, which are rewards from the weekly quests given by your construct companions.

That said, if you want to farm it efficiently rather than passively, the best method is to repeatedly clear the trash in the Halls of Atonement dungeon on Normal difficulty. This dungeon is located in the eastern section of Revendreth.

Your route should be as follows: clear all the trash leading up to Halkias, defeat Halkias himself, and then clear the trash in the area immediately after him. Do not kill Echelon or push further into the dungeon — the mobs beyond that point are much less efficient for farming.

  • /way #1525 78.4 49 – Halls of Atonement entrance

Once you've cleared the mobs in the designated area, simply leave the instance and reset it by right-clicking your portrait and selecting "Reset all instances" under Instance Options. Then re-enter and repeat the process until you've collected all the Malleable Flesh you need. It's repetitive, but it's the fastest way to get exactly what you need.

Extra Tips and Common Mistakes

  • Start Superior Parts early: Superior Parts are the bottleneck for this achievement. Begin collecting them from construct weekly quests and adventure table missions as soon as possible.
  • Build constructs in order of tier: Focus on Tier 1 and Tier 2 constructs first, as they are cheaper and unlock more weekly quests, which in turn increases your Superior Parts income.
  • World bosses require the quest: You only receive Anima from world bosses if the associated world quest is active. Killing the boss without the quest will not reward you.
  • This mount is account-wide: Once obtained, the mount is added to your account-wide collection and can be used by all your characters, regardless of their Covenant.

Useful Addons for Farming Chosen Tauralus

Crafting all 16 constructs requires managing multiple currencies, weekly quests, and Covenant progression. The right addons can help you stay organised and ensure you don't miss any weekly Superior Parts opportunities.

  • AltVault: Covenants: The most useful addon for tracking Covenant progression. It displays your Renown level, Sanctum Anima reserve, Redeemed Souls amounts, and even your Sanctum upgrade status all in one place [citation:1]. This makes it easy to see at a glance exactly how much Anima and Souls you still need for your next Abomination Factory upgrade, without digging through multiple menus.
  • TomTom / Paste: Quickly set waypoints to Arkadia Moa, Osbourne Black, the Abominable Stitching Table, and the Halls of Atonement entrance. Essential for efficient routing between all the locations involved in this achievement.
  • World Quest Tracker: Shows all available world quests on a single panel, helping you quickly identify Anima farming opportunities and track your progress toward the 44,000 Anima needed for Rank 5.
  • Leatrix Plus: Quality-of-life improvements like auto-repair, auto-sell junk, and faster interactions — small time savers that add up over the many weeks required to complete this achievement.

Pro tip: Use AltVault: Covenants alongside TomTom to streamline your daily and weekly routine. Check your Anima and Redeemed Souls totals, then set waypoints to the NPCs you need to visit — all without leaving the game world.
