The Callow Flayedwing is a grotesque, two-headed chimaera whose patchwork hide and tattered wings embody the grim, survival-of-the-fittest nature of Maldraxxus. Its skeletal frame, leathery wings, and the unsettling way it moves make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a dark, monstrous aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its role in the ecosystem: "Flayedwings are a necessary force in the cycle of life for the Shadowlands, acting as both prey and predator for the harsh environment of Maldraxxus." For collectors who value rarity and the thrill of a low-drop-rate farm, this mount is a true trophy — a symbol of your persistence in the unforgiving wastes of Maldraxxus.
Introduced in patch 9.0.1 as part of the Shadowlands expansion, the Callow Flayedwing is one of the most time-consuming mount farms in Maldraxxus, combining an extremely low drop rate with a multi-day hatching timer. Unlike many mounts that can be farmed passively or purchased outright, this one demands a serious commitment to grinding chimaera mobs and a willingness to wait for your prize to incubate. For players who enjoy a long-term farm with a clear, tangible payoff, the Callow Flayedwing offers a challenging but deeply rewarding goal.
The Callow Flayedwing is obtained from the Blight-Touched Egg, a rare drop from chimaera mobs in Maldraxxus. The drop rate is estimated at approximately 0.2%, making this one of the rarer open-world drops in the Shadowlands. The egg is Bind-on-Pickup, so it must be looted and hatched on the character that obtains it.
Once you have the Blight-Touched Egg, you must wait five days for it to transform into a Cracked Blight-Touched Egg. After the five days are up, right-click the Cracked Egg in your inventory to receive the Chewed Reins and learn the Callow Flayedwing mount.
The Blight-Touched Egg drops from any chimaera mob in Maldraxxus. Chimaeras are easily recognizable — they always have two heads and large, leathery wings, similar in appearance to the mount itself.
Recommended farming spot: The Neonate Bonetooth mobs in the area to the west of the Theatre of Pain. This location has a high density of mobs with low health and decent respawn rates, making it ideal for rapid kills and maximum loot chances.
Alternative chimaera spawn locations are marked on the map above. While you can farm any chimaera in Maldraxxus, the Neonate Bonetooth area is widely considered the most efficient due to its dense population and fast respawns.
After you've looted your Blight-Touched Egg, you must wait five days for it to hatch. During this time, the egg will sit in your inventory as a Blight-Touched Egg. After the five-day timer expires, it will automatically transform into a Cracked Blight-Touched Egg.
Once the egg has cracked, right-click it in your inventory to receive the Chewed Reins of the Callow Flayedwing. Learn the mount immediately to add it to your collection.
Farming a 0.2% drop rate mount requires patience and persistence. The right addons can help you track your progress and stay motivated.
Pro tip: Use Rarity to track your kill count and drop chance. It's a great way to stay motivated during a long farm — watching the numbers climb gives you a sense of progress even when the egg doesn't drop.
