Breath of Blight Mount Guide

Updated 10 Aug 2026 | Author: Invord | ~6 min

The Breath of Blight is a sickly, corruption-ridden drake whose very presence poisons the air around it. Its decaying wings, glowing eyes, and the miasma that trails in its wake make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a dark, plague-ridden aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its deadly nature: "A sickly haze trails in its wake, poisoning earth, air, and anything foolish enough to pursue it." For collectors who value prestige and the satisfaction of a challenging achievement, this mount is a true trophy — a symbol of your mastery over the Season 2 Mythic+ dungeon pool.

Coming in patch 12.1.0 as part of the Midnight Season 2 update, the Breath of Blight is the exclusive seasonal reward for reaching 2000 Mythic+ rating during the second season of the Midnight expansion. Like all seasonal Keystone Master mounts, this drake will become permanently unobtainable once the season ends, making it a must-have for collectors of limited-time rewards. The journey to 2000 rating is challenging but achievable — it doesn't require pushing the highest keys, but rather consistent performance across the full eight-dungeon rotation. For players who enjoy structured progression with a clear endpoint, the Breath of Blight offers a rewarding and attainable goal.

  • Added in patch: Midnight 12.1.0
  • Mount type: Flying
  • Source: Achievement reward
  • Requirements: 2000+ Mythic+ Rating in Season 2
  • Availability: Limited-time (seasonal)

How to Get Breath of Blight

Breath of Blight

The Breath of Blight is obtained by completing the Midnight Keystone Master: Season 2 achievement, which requires accumulating at least 2,000 Mythic+ rating during Season 2. This is a guaranteed acquisition — there is no RNG involved, no rare spawns to camp, and no low drop rates to overcome. Simply reach the required rating before the season ends and the mount is yours.

Your rating is determined solely by your best completed run per dungeon. There is no longer a Fortified/Tyrannical split — only your highest-level timed (or completed) key for each dungeon counts toward your total score. A clean set of +7 timed keys across the full dungeon pool is sufficient to reach 2000 rating.

Dungeon Pool

The Season 2 Mythic+ rotation features a total of eight dungeons — five from the Midnight expansion and three returning legacy dungeons.

Season 2 Dungeon Pool

Legacy Dungeons

While these legacy dungeons were notorious for their difficulty in their original expansions, Blizzard has confirmed they will be retuned and reworked for Season 2 to ensure they feel fresh and balanced.

How Much Rating Do You Need?

Based on the Season 1 scoring system, completing all eight dungeons at +7 difficulty results in approximately 2050 rating. This means you do not need high-end pushes to +10 or beyond — a clean set of +7 timed keys across the full dungeon pool is sufficient to secure the achievement.

Why +7 Is the Sweet Spot

  • +7 provides strong base rating value per dungeon.
  • Timing the key significantly increases score compared to a depleted clear.
  • Balanced clears across all 8 dungeons maximise total rating.
  • Over-pushing one dungeon cannot fully compensate for ignoring others.

If you fall slightly short of 2000, upgrading one or two dungeons to +8 or +9 will easily push you over the threshold.

Fastest Route to 2000 Rating

Reaching 2000+ Mythic+ rating in Season 2 does not require extreme key pushing. A structured and consistent approach is far more efficient than randomly upgrading high keys.

  • Step 1 – Build a Baseline: Clear every dungeon at +5 to establish initial rating and get comfortable with mechanics.
  • Step 2 – Upgrade to +7: Time each dungeon at +7 difficulty. This level provides enough rating across all 8 dungeons to exceed 2000 total score.
  • Step 3 – Improve Weak Keys: If you fall slightly below 2000, increase your lowest-scoring dungeon to +8 or +9 instead of over-pushing already completed ones.

Consistency across the full dungeon pool matters more than pushing one or two high keys.

Extra Tips and Common Mistakes

  • Start early: Don't wait until the end of the season. Pushing rating early gives you more time to improve weak keys.
  • Learn the new dungeons: Five of the eight dungeons are from Midnight — take time to learn routes, mechanics, and boss strategies.
  • Don't ignore legacy dungeons: While they may be intimidating, Blizzard has retuned them to be fair and fun. Don't avoid them.
  • Focus on timing keys, not just completing them: A timed key gives significantly more rating than a depleted one.
  • Use voice communication: Even in PUGs, using voice chat can dramatically improve coordination and success rates.
  • This mount is seasonal and limited-time: Once Season 2 ends, the Breath of Blight will never be obtainable again. Prioritise this if you're a collector of limited-time mounts.

Useful Addons for Getting Breath of Blight

Midnight changed the addon ecosystem significantly — many "mandatory" tools from past expansions are now partially replaced by the default UI. Blizzard built in key features like basic boss warnings, performance readouts, and better cooldown visibility, so you don't need a bloated setup to push rating anymore.

For the Midnight Keystone Master achievement, the best addons are the ones that improve clarity, coordination, and pacing: tracking group cooldowns, keeping your screen readable during chain pulls, and reducing downtime between runs.

  • Method Raid Tools: Still one of the cleanest "organisation" addons even outside raids — useful in Mythic+ for tracking key cooldowns, battle res usage, and keeping the group disciplined when the timer gets tight.
  • BetterCooldownManager: A focused cooldown UI that centralises defensives, utility, and rotational buttons into one readable display. It helps you play cleaner under pressure because you stop hunting your action bars and start reacting instantly.
  • Leatrix Plus: The ultimate "no wasted clicks" addon — auto-sell junk, auto-repair, skip cutscenes, reduce UI friction, and smooth out all the small things that quietly eat time across a season. Great for Mythic+ spamming and alt play.
  • Bagnon: Even though Midnight has a combined-bag option, Bagnon remains the faster tool for searching, sorting, and keeping your inventory readable — which matters when you're chain-running keys and constantly swapping consumables, trinkets, and gear.
  • Altoholic: Perfect if you play multiple characters for dungeon coverage. It turns your roster into a dashboard: who has lockouts done, who has resources, who is ready to run — without relogging ten times to check.
  • M+timer: A lightweight addon that displays a simple, clean timer overlay for your Mythic+ runs. It shows your current time, remaining time, and pace relative to the timer, making it easy to track your progress at a glance. Highly customisable and less intrusive than other timer addons.

If you only install a small setup, start with MRT + a clean cooldown tracker, then add quality-of-life tools like Leatrix Plus and Bagnon. The goal is not "more addons" — it's a UI that stays readable during big pulls and keeps your group moving with minimal downtime.
