Armored Irontusk Mount Guide

Updated 06 Jun 2026 | Author: Invord | ~8 min

The Armored Irontusk is one of the most iconic faction-style mounts tied to the Warlords of Draenor garrison system. With its heavy war plating, unmistakable elekk silhouette, and strong draenei military identity, it feels like a true Alliance campaign reward rather than just another reputation purchase. For collectors who enjoy older Draenor-exclusive mounts and faction-themed beasts with a grounded, armored look, this is still one of the most satisfying reputation mounts to unlock.

What makes the Armored Irontusk especially interesting is that it is not simply bought from a normal city quartermaster. The mount is tied to your Garrison Trading Post, which means you first need the correct building setup and then have to push the proper Warlords faction all the way to Exalted. That gives the mount a more structured feel than many older reputation rewards, because it combines building progression, faction grind, and a currency requirement into one complete unlock path.

  • Added in patch: 6.0.2 "The Iron Tide"
  • Mount type: Ground
  • Faction: Alliance only
  • Source: Trading Post vendor
  • Requirement: Exalted with Sha'tari Defense
  • Repeat attempts: Unlimited farming

How to get Armored Irontusk

Armored Irontusk

The Armored Irontusk is purchased from Maaria inside a Level 2 Trading Post in your Alliance garrison. Before the mount becomes available, you must reach Exalted with the Sha'tari Defense faction. Once that requirement is completed, the mount costs 5000 Apexis Crystal and 5000 Gold.

That means this mount is not just a straightforward reputation reward. You need the right building in your garrison, the correct faction standing, and enough currency to pay for the purchase once everything else is finished. It is a more layered unlock than most old vendor mounts, which is exactly why it still feels meaningful for collectors going back to Draenor content.

Want to skip the longest part of the grind? Our Armored Irontusk service helps you build the required reputation, prepare the correct garrison setup, and secure the mount without turning the grind into a slow legacy farm.

Unlock the Trading Post

Before you can even start working toward the Armored Irontusk, you need to have a Level 2 Trading Post in your Alliance garrison. A basic garrison is not enough, and simply having access to Draenor zones does not unlock the vendor by itself. The Trading Post is part of the actual requirement chain, because the Sha'tari Defense faction is directly tied to that building.

Once the building is upgraded to the correct level, the associated faction and vendor become relevant. This is one of the biggest differences between the Armored Irontusk and a more standard reputation mount sold in a regular capital city. Here, your personal garrison progression is part of the unlock itself.

If you are returning to Warlords of Draenor content on an older character, make sure to check the building level before beginning the reputation grind. Many players remember the faction but forget that the Trading Post requirement is what actually makes the reward path work.

Gaining reputation

To unlock the Armored Irontusk, you need to reach Exalted with the Sha'tari Defense. The most common and practical way to farm this reputation is by killing mobs in the northern part of Talador. This has been the standard grind route for the faction for years, and it remains the most direct option if you want to control your progress manually.

Rare mobs in the area provide even better value, so it is worth paying attention to them while you clear the zone. The grind can be done solo, but it is often much more efficient in a full group, especially if you want to chain kills quickly without downtime. Many players fill these groups through LFG, community discords, or mount-farming communities.

If you have access to your guild’s Battle Standard of Coordination, make sure to use it. It provides extra reputation and helps shave time off a grind that can otherwise feel repetitive. Small bonuses matter much more on older reputation farms than many players expect.

Reputation gains become even better during a Warlords of Draenor Timewalking week. On top of that, if you upgrade your Trading Post to Level 3, you gain an additional reputation bonus that makes the entire grind noticeably smoother. If you are planning this mount efficiently, combining the grind with a WoD Timewalking week is one of the best ways to reduce the total time investment.

There is also an alternative reputation route through Commendation of the Sha'tari Defense. These are Blizzard account-bound and can be purchased during WoD Timewalking with Timewarped Badges, then mailed to the character you are using for the reputation grind. This is especially useful if you already have a large badge reserve on alts and want to funnel that progress into one dedicated reputation character.

Tip: If you are not in a rush, try to line up your Sha'tari Defense grind with a WoD Timewalking week. Between bonus reputation and Commendation tokens, it is one of the easiest ways to cut a large chunk off the total grind.

Buying the mount

Once you reach Exalted with Sha'tari Defense, you can purchase the Armored Irontusk from Maaria at your garrison’s Trading Post. The purchase still requires 5000 Apexis Crystal and 5000 Gold, so Exalted reputation alone is not the final step.

If you are missing the required Apexis Crystals by the time you finish the reputation grind, the simplest way to make up the difference is by completing daily assault quests offered in your garrison and other remaining Draenor activities that still reward the currency. Compared to the reputation itself, the Apexis requirement is usually the easier part, but it is still something you should keep in mind before heading to the vendor.

Another detail worth remembering is that Maaria moves between several positions inside the Alliance Trading Post area. If you do not see the vendor immediately, check the common spawn points around the building rather than assuming something is wrong with the unlock.

Once you buy this mount, you will also receive the Horde counterpart in your collection as an opposite-faction alternative - Ironside Warwolf. That makes the purchase even more rewarding for collectors, since one reputation grind effectively gives you access to both appearances across your account.

Extra tips for Armored Irontusk

Because the Armored Irontusk is a legacy reputation mount, almost the entire grind is about stacking efficiency. If you do the farm without any planning, it feels much longer than it really is. If you combine the right buffs and timing windows, however, the entire process becomes much smoother.

  • Humans gain 10% extra reputation through their racial bonus, which makes them one of the best choices for this grind
  • Use Battle Standard of Coordination whenever possible for additional reputation gain
  • Take advantage of Darkmoon Faire for the WHEE! buff when available
  • Use seasonal or anniversary bonuses such as Grim Visage when active
  • Save Timewarped Badges on alts if you want to buy Commendation tokens during WoD Timewalking

If you approach the mount casually, it is still very doable. But if you stack racial bonuses, guild tools, timewalking reputation boosts, and event buffs together, the reputation requirement starts to move much faster than most players expect from old Draenor content.

Useful Add-ons for Armored Irontusk

Since this mount is tied to a legacy reputation grind, garrison setup, and a fairly specific farm route in Talador, the most useful addons are the ones that improve routing, coordinate tracking, and legacy content comfort.

  • TomTom: Extremely useful for marking Talador farm routes, rare locations, and Maaria’s general Trading Post area
  • Leatrix Maps: Improves readability in older Draenor zones and helps with quick navigation across Talador and your garrison
  • SavedInstances: Helpful if you are coordinating WoD Timewalking badge spending across multiple alts for Commendation tokens
  • HandyNotes: Useful for older world content if you want clearer map markers while moving through the farm area and checking rares

For this specific mount, TomTom and HandyNotes are the most practical choices, because the grind is built around repeated movement through one zone rather than around complex modern mechanics. Cleaner routing almost always means faster reputation.
