Armored Chosen Tauralus Mount Guide

Updated 09 Sep 2026 | Author: Invord | ~8 min

The Armored Chosen Tauralus is a magnificent, battle-scarred beast whose reinforced armour and fierce, unyielding nature embody the ruthless military might of the Necrolord Covenant. Its imposing frame, bone-plated hide, and the twin tails that whip away pests make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a grim, militaristic aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its practicality: "The tauralus has two tails, which are both absolutely necessary for whipping away buzzing pests like the bloodlouse." For collectors who value prestige and the satisfaction of a complex, multi-week meta-achievement, this mount is a true trophy — a symbol of your mastery over the dark arts of the Abomination Factory.

Introduced in patch 9.0.1 as part of the Shadowlands expansion, the Armored Chosen Tauralus is the ultimate reward for those who have fully immersed themselves in the dark sciences of the Necrolord Covenant. This mount isn't about luck or rare spawns — it's a testament to dedication, requiring you to become a master of the Abomination Factory's intricate systems. From stitching together every construct companion to completing their weekly tasks, crafting cosmetic accessories, and contributing to the war effort, the journey spans weeks of consistent effort. For players who thrive on long-term projects and the satisfaction of crossing off a massive checklist, the Armored Chosen Tauralus represents one of the most comprehensive and rewarding achievements in the Shadowlands.

  • Added in patch: 9.0.1 "Shadowlands"
  • Mount type: Ground
  • Source: Meta-achievement reward
  • Covenant: Necrolord only
  • Time to complete: 4-6 weeks

How to Get Armored Chosen Tauralus

Armored Chosen Tauralus

The Armored Chosen Tauralus is awarded upon completing the Things To Do When You're Dead meta-achievement. This meta-achievement consists of four sub-achievements:

This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition — there is no RNG involved, no rare spawns to camp, and no low drop rates to overcome. Simply complete all four sub-achievements, and the mount is yours. Once obtained, the mount is bound to your account and available to all your characters, including non-Necrolords.

Tip: The meta-achievement takes 4-6 weeks to complete due to weekly reset locks on servant quests. Start early and be consistent — the mount is a marathon, not a sprint.

Step 1: Join the Necrolord Covenant

If you are not already a member of the Necrolord Covenant, you must first join them. This becomes available after you complete the main Shadowlands campaign and finish the quest Choosing Your Purpose in Oribos, where you pledge your allegiance to a covenant. The Necrolord Covenant is essential for this mount farm, as the Abomination Factory is exclusive to this covenant.

You must complete the quest Welcome To Our House and the basic tasks that unlock the sanctum Seat of the Primus.

Step 2: Unlock the Abomination Factory

Enter Maldraxxus through the portal in Oribos (if you are already pledged to the Necrolords you can use a hearthstone to the sanctum). Enter the Seat of the Primus — the covenant's main building.

In the main hall on the left, next to the renown quartermaster, find Arkadia Moa and open the sanctum upgrades screen. Buy the first rank of the "Abomination Crafting" upgrade, then, if you wish, the second and third ranks for additional anima links.

After the purchase, the abomination factory opens on the first floor of the Seat of the Primus, with the Abominable Stitching Table and the NPC Emeni — the keeper of recipes.

The Gang's All Here Achievement

To complete The Gang's All Here, you need to stitch all 16 abomination companions. Stitching requires two resources:

  • Malleable Flesh — obtained from nearly any creature in the Shadowlands. It can also be obtained as a reward for doing Abominable Stitching quests. A good farming spot is in Ardenweald, at the Mistveil Tangle where a Wild Hunt patrol roams — you can get a steady supply of Malleable Flesh there.
  • Superior Parts — only obtained from doing weekly quests given by constructs you've created at the Stitchyard. These parts are a crucial reagent for creating more constructs. As you create more constructs and expand the Stitchyard, you'll have more quests and more sources of Superior Parts.

Special Constructs:

Thirteen abominations unlock as you stitch the standard recipes. Three require the special conditions listed above.

Abominable Lives Achievement

To complete Abominable Lives, you need to complete 32 servant quests. Each stitched abomination hands out its own unique quest once a week. Some tasks require visiting zones outside Maldraxxus (Ardenweald, Bastion, Revendreth), others call for combat, item gathering or talking to an NPC.

Important:

  • Tasks reset with the weekly reset.
  • Quests are given out at random from a large pool, but each specific abomination has a limited set of tasks.
  • The achievement cannot be skipped with currency or a raid — only time and regular visits.
  • To finish the achievement you need to collect all 16 servants and complete their quests in sequence over the course of 4-6 weeks.

Wardrobe Makeover Achievement

To complete Wardrobe Makeover, you need to craft 25 cosmetic accessories.

  • Cosmetic accessories are crafted at the same table as the abominations.
  • There are four categories: head, shoulders, back and miscellaneous trinkets.
  • Recipes are bought from the Stitchmasters (Margrave Stradama, Master of Constructs) for reputation and covenant currency.
  • Any 25 accessories of any category are enough to finish the achievement — you don't have to collect everything.

It's a Wrap Achievement

To complete It's a Wrap, you need to deliver 100 Anima-bound Wraps to Summoner Gerard.

  • The wraps are crafted at the very same abomination stitching table.
  • Each wrap requires 2 Shrouded Cloth — so the total cost comes to 200 Shrouded Cloth.
  • Shrouded Cloth is produced through the Tailoring profession in the Shadowlands or bought on the Auction House.
  • You can turn them in one wrap at a time — progress is never reset.
  • The wraps also play a part in the mass summon of the world boss Visectus, but only the total contribution counts toward the achievement.

Extra Tips and Common Mistakes

  • Start early: The meta-achievement requires several weeks of weekly reset cycles. Don't wait until the last minute — start as soon as you unlock the Abomination Factory.
  • Complete all weekly quests: Each stitched abomination gives a weekly quest. Make sure you complete them all every week to progress Abominable Lives efficiently.
  • Farm Malleable Flesh efficiently: If you're short on Malleable Flesh, farm the Wild Hunt patrol in Ardenweald's Mistveil Tangle for a steady supply.
  • Don't waste Superior Parts: Superior Parts are time-gated. Use them wisely to craft the abominations you need for The Gang's All Here.
  • Buy Shrouded Cloth from the Auction House: If you're not a Tailor, buying Shrouded Cloth is the fastest way to complete It's a Wrap.
  • Check your achievement progress: Use the Achievements tab to track which sub-achievements you've completed and which ones are still pending.
  • This mount is account-wide: Once obtained, the mount is available to all your characters, including non-Necrolords.

Useful Addons for Farming Armored Chosen Tauralus

Farming the Abomination Factory and tracking the meta-achievement requires organisation and consistency. The right addons can help you manage your weekly quests and track your progress.

  • SavedInstances: Tracks which characters have completed weekly quests, including the Abomination Factory servant quests. Essential for managing multiple alts.
  • TomTom / Paste: Quickly set waypoints to the Seat of the Primus, the Putrid Mound, and other key locations.
  • World Quest Tracker: Shows all available world quests on a single panel, helping you quickly identify Anima farming opportunities.
  • Leatrix Plus: Quality-of-life improvements like auto-repair, auto-sell junk, and faster interactions — small time savers that add up over a long grind.
  • Rarity: Tracks your progress toward the mount and other achievements.

Pro tip: Use SavedInstances to track which of your alts have completed their weekly Abomination Factory quests. This ensures you don't miss any progress toward the meta-achievement.
