Apophic Soul Crusher Mount Guide

Updated 10 Aug 2026 | Author: Invord | ~6 min

The Apophic Soul Crusher is a nightmarish construct of tortured arcane energy, a being whose very existence is fueled by the anguish of the unfaithful. Its twisted form, crackling with corrupted magic, and the mournful wails that echo from its core make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a dark, tragic aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its grim nature: "Once powered by the arcane, now fueled solely by the tortured spirits of the unfaithful." For collectors who value prestige and the satisfaction of overcoming the game's most challenging solo content, this mount is the ultimate trophy — a symbol of your mastery over the Season 2 Delve Nemesis.

Coming in patch 12.1.0 as part of the Midnight Season 2 update, the Apophic Soul Crusher is the pinnacle reward for defeating the new Delve Nemesis boss, Azta'rec, on the highest difficulty — solo. This is not a mount for the casual player; it demands a serious commitment to mastering Delve mechanics, learning a complex "Simon Says" memory game, and executing flawlessly under pressure. Like all seasonal Nemesis rewards, this mount will become permanently unobtainable once Season 2 ends, making it one of the most exclusive mounts available. For those who live for the challenge and want a mount that truly reflects their dedication, the Apophic Soul Crusher is the ultimate badge of honour in Season 2.

  • Added in patch: Midnight 12.1.0
  • Mount type: Flying
  • Source: Achievement reward
  • Requirements: Defeat Azta'rec on Tier ?? solo
  • Availability: Limited-time (Season 2 only)

How to Get Apophic Soul Crusher

Apophic Soul Crusher

The Apophic Soul Crusher is obtained by completing the Let Me Solo Him: Azta'rec achievement. This requires you to defeat the Season 2 Delve Nemesis boss, Azta'rec, on Tier ?? difficulty — which is roughly equivalent to Tier 11 Delves — without any other players in your party. This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition if you complete the achievement, but it is one of the most challenging solo encounters in the game.

Tip: The Apophic Soul Crusher is a limited-time seasonal mount. Once Season 2 ends, this mount will become permanently unobtainable. Make sure to defeat Azta'rec on Tier ?? before the season concludes.

Where to Find Azta'rec

Azta'rec is the Season 2 Delves Nemesis boss, and unlike regular encounters, he does not appear in standard dungeon or open-world content. Instead, he resides inside a dedicated Delve known as Venomfall Deeps, located in the northern part of The Coiled Isle.

  • /way #2512 51.2 31.0 – Venomfall Deeps

This location acts as his personal arena and is specifically designed for the Nemesis encounter. Once unlocked, you can challenge Azta'rec on two difficulty tiers — Tier 8 and Tier 11. While the lower difficulty is useful for learning mechanics, only the highest tier (Tier ??) is relevant if your goal is to obtain the Apophic Soul Crusher.

The Nemesis system also ties into multiple rewards beyond the mount, including titles, transmog appearances, and seasonal achievements. However, it is important to understand that only a full solo kill on the highest difficulty will grant the mount reward.

Unlocking the Encounter

You cannot access Azta'rec immediately. You must first unlock his difficulty tiers:

  • Tier 8: Complete a Tier 7 Delve with at least one life remaining.
  • Tier 11: Complete a Tier 10 Delve with at least one life remaining.

This ensures only players capable of handling high-tier Delves can attempt the Nemesis fight. The Tier 11 unlock is the prerequisite for the Tier ?? difficulty where the mount drops.

Class and Spec Recommendations

According to PTR testing, Tank specs have a significant advantage in this encounter:

  • White swings (auto-attacks) represent a large amount of damage for non-Tank specs. Tanks can largely ignore this due to their increased Armor and defensives.
  • Avoidable damage does not one-shot Tanks — abilities like Venom Storm waves only do about 600k damage, which is easily survivable by a Tank but may kill a DPS.
  • Protection Warrior has a notable advantage due to Spell Reflect working on certain abilities.
  • The boss's movement speed has been significantly buffed compared to Season 1's Nullaeus, making kiting much harder.

Introductory Quest Chain

At the start of the season, Valeera Sanguinar will offer a short questline to level 90 players at the Delver's Headquarters. While this questline is not required to open the Nemesis Delve or to defeat Azta'rec, it does offer a unique reward — the Corrosive Victory toy.

The quest chain begins with the quest Slithering Spoils.

Extra Tips and Common Mistakes

  • Use a Tank spec: PTR testing shows that Tanks have a massive survivability advantage. Consider switching to a Tank spec for this encounter.
  • Dispel Void Toxin: The 40% damage reduction debuff can be dispelled by Magic dispels. If you're a Tank, this is especially important.
  • Bring movement speed boosts: The memory game requires quick movement between quadrants. Speed boosts can be a lifesaver.
  • The mount is solo-only: You must defeat Azta'rec on Tier ?? without any other players in your party. No group kills count for the achievement.
  • This mount is seasonal and limited-time: Once Season 2 ends, the Apophic Soul Crusher will never be obtainable again.
  • Level up Valeera before attempting the encounter: Your companion's level significantly impacts your performance in the Azta'rec fight. A higher-level Valeera provides stronger combat bonuses, better utility, and increased survivability — which can make the difference between a successful kill and a frustrating wipe. Take the time to level her through Delve content before tackling Tier ??.

Useful Addons for Getting Apophic Soul Crusher

Farming the Apophic Soul Crusher requires mastery of the Azta'rec encounter and efficient Delve clearing. The right addons can help you track mechanics, remember sequences, and improve your performance.

  • SnakeSays: A specialised addon designed specifically for the Azta'rec encounter's memory game mechanic. It creates a four-quadrant arena HUD that lets you record each safe position by clicking it or pressing a keybind during the telegraph phase. Once all five positions are recorded, the addon displays the stored order during the hidden replay — making the "Simon Says" mechanic significantly easier to execute correctly.
  • Deadly Boss Mods (DBM) – Delves Module: Provides timers and warnings for boss abilities, including Azta'rec's intermissions and the memory game sequence. Essential for tracking when the "Sermon of Ula'tek" phase begins and ends.
  • HandyNotes – Delves (plugin): Displays Delve locations, including Venomfall Deeps, on your map. Also shows important points of interest.
  • TomTom / Paste: Quickly set waypoints to Venomfall Deeps and other Delve locations.
  • SavedInstances: Tracks which characters have completed Delves and unlocked Tier 11 difficulty. Useful if you're farming on multiple characters.
  • Leatrix Plus: Quality-of-life improvements like auto-repair, auto-sell junk, and faster interactions — small time savers that add up over a long grind.
