The Apophic Soul Crusher is a nightmarish construct of tortured arcane energy, a being whose very existence is fueled by the anguish of the unfaithful. Its twisted form, crackling with corrupted magic, and the mournful wails that echo from its core make it a favourite among collectors who appreciate mounts with a dark, tragic aesthetic. The flavour text speaks to its grim nature: "Once powered by the arcane, now fueled solely by the tortured spirits of the unfaithful." For collectors who value prestige and the satisfaction of overcoming the game's most challenging solo content, this mount is the ultimate trophy — a symbol of your mastery over the Season 2 Delve Nemesis.
Coming in patch 12.1.0 as part of the Midnight Season 2 update, the Apophic Soul Crusher is the pinnacle reward for defeating the new Delve Nemesis boss, Azta'rec, on the highest difficulty — solo. This is not a mount for the casual player; it demands a serious commitment to mastering Delve mechanics, learning a complex "Simon Says" memory game, and executing flawlessly under pressure. Like all seasonal Nemesis rewards, this mount will become permanently unobtainable once Season 2 ends, making it one of the most exclusive mounts available. For those who live for the challenge and want a mount that truly reflects their dedication, the Apophic Soul Crusher is the ultimate badge of honour in Season 2.
The Apophic Soul Crusher is obtained by completing the Let Me Solo Him: Azta'rec achievement. This requires you to defeat the Season 2 Delve Nemesis boss, Azta'rec, on Tier ?? difficulty — which is roughly equivalent to Tier 11 Delves — without any other players in your party. This is a 100% guaranteed acquisition if you complete the achievement, but it is one of the most challenging solo encounters in the game.
Azta'rec is the Season 2 Delves Nemesis boss, and unlike regular encounters, he does not appear in standard dungeon or open-world content. Instead, he resides inside a dedicated Delve known as Venomfall Deeps, located in the northern part of The Coiled Isle.
This location acts as his personal arena and is specifically designed for the Nemesis encounter. Once unlocked, you can challenge Azta'rec on two difficulty tiers — Tier 8 and Tier 11. While the lower difficulty is useful for learning mechanics, only the highest tier (Tier ??) is relevant if your goal is to obtain the Apophic Soul Crusher.
The Nemesis system also ties into multiple rewards beyond the mount, including titles, transmog appearances, and seasonal achievements. However, it is important to understand that only a full solo kill on the highest difficulty will grant the mount reward.
You cannot access Azta'rec immediately. You must first unlock his difficulty tiers:
This ensures only players capable of handling high-tier Delves can attempt the Nemesis fight. The Tier 11 unlock is the prerequisite for the Tier ?? difficulty where the mount drops.
According to PTR testing, Tank specs have a significant advantage in this encounter:
At the start of the season, Valeera Sanguinar will offer a short questline to level 90 players at the Delver's Headquarters. While this questline is not required to open the Nemesis Delve or to defeat Azta'rec, it does offer a unique reward — the Corrosive Victory toy.
The quest chain begins with the quest Slithering Spoils.
