The Coiled Isle Overview

Updated 19 Aug 2026 | Author: Kir | ~9 min

Patch 12.1 has flung open the gates to a brand-new endgame zone, packed to the brim with all manner of activities — from open-world objectives to revamped World Boss, fresh Delves, a new dungeon, and a raid. In the article below, you'll discover everything you need to know about The Coiled Isle and all the ventures this place has in store for you.

Midnight 12.1 New Zone: The Coiled Isle

The Coiled Isle lies off the eastern coast of Zul'Aman, shrouded in dense, unnatural mists that have kept it hidden from outsiders for generations. That changed when Zul'jarra forced a path through the fog, opening the way for her united troll forces to pursue the treacherous Ula'tek and the dark powers he seeks to awaken. Now, alongside Zul'jarra's Forces, players will storm the isle's serpent-infested shores and descend into its depths to confront an ancient evil. The patch introduces a new dungeon, Altar of Fangs, and a new raid, The Venomous Abyss, both tied directly to the escalating conflict on the isle.

The Coiled Isle itself serves as more than a staging ground. It features Tokka's Landing, a bustling central hub for adventurers; two new regular Delves and the Season 2 Nemesis Delve; an instanced world boss lair known as The Tidebound Grotto; and the sprawling underground labyrinth of the Vaults of Atal'Utek. Beneath the surface, players will face rotating public events, unlock a new talent tree-like system, and earn reputation with two distinct factions. Above ground, rares prowl the jungles, treasures hide among the rocks, and Cursed Surges periodically erupt across the landscape, offering combat challenges and unlocking Cursed Fishing opportunities.

The Coiled Isle Unlock

Access to The Coiled Isle is granted during Chapter 2 of the Patch 12.1 campaign, The Curse of Ula'tek. The quest What Lies Beyond the Fog serves as your introduction to the island and sends you across the water for the first time. Once the introductory questline is complete, every character in your Warband can fly to the island freely.

The Coiled Isle Flying

Flying on the Coiled Isle is available immediately upon arrival, and as an island located off the coast of Zul'Aman, you will need to fly or otherwise travel across the water each time you wish to do content there. Skyriding Glyphs are scattered across the isle for those looking to fine-tune their mounts. However, while inside the underground Vaults of Atal'Utek, flying is disabled and you will be restricted to ground travel.

How To Get to The Coiled Isle

The Coiled Isle is part of the Eastern Kingdoms proper, so you can reach it by flying mount, by taking a flight path to Tokka's Landing once it is unlocked, or, for the particularly bold, by swimming from Zul'Aman — though the waters are patrolled by sharks and threshadons. Additionally, after completing a short questline to unlock Prey in Season 2, a portal between Astalor's Sanctum in Silvermoon City and The Coiled Isle becomes available. This portal works both ways and is the fastest method of travel between the two locations.

The Coiled Isle Activities

The Coiled Isle offers a wide variety of activities for players of all interests. Alongside the expected assortment of rares, treasures, and lore objects, the zone introduces two new factions, an instanced world boss, and a sprawling underground region with its own progression system. Cursed Surges provide dynamic open-world combat, while fishing enthusiasts will find a new friendship reputation to cultivate with Captain Tokka.

World Boss Lair

The revamped World Boss Nymrissa Wavecaller is located at the bottom of the bay just below Tokka's Landing, within the instanced lair of The Tidebound Grotto (/way 60.1, 66 The Tidebound Grotto). For the first time since world bosses were introduced, players can choose from multiple difficulty options:

  • World
  • Normal
  • Heroic
  • Mythic

Each tier offers corresponding gear rewards, ranging from Veteran track all the way up to Myth track raid-level equipment. Because the encounter is instanced, you must form a group before entering on any difficulty above World. A Summoning Stone is available outside the entrance for convenience.

For more information about this lair, including strategy tips and a full reward breakdown, consult our dedicated Tidebound Grotto guide.

Zul'jarra's Forces Faction

Shadowpine, Witherbark, Revantusk, and Amani soldiers fight as one united front under Zul'jarra's command. This major faction takes the battle directly to Malacrass and Ula'tek on The Coiled Isle, and helping them offers access to a full Renown track of 20 levels packed with rewards. Let's check some examples:

To learn everything this Renown has to offer, check out our dedicated Zul'jarra's Forces Renown Rewards guide.

Vaults of Atal'Utek Zone

The Vaults of Atal'Utek stretch beneath the surface of The Coiled Isle, forming a massive underground network where players can grow stronger through the Altar of Corrosion, a new talent tree-like system. The Vaults also host a perpetual world event, Defeat Ancient Foes, where the forces of Ula'tek must be pushed back, and offer new cosmetic rewards for those who delve deep.

For a full breakdown of activities, rewards, and strategies within this zone, keep an eye on our dedicated Vaults of Atal'Utek guide.

Cursed Surges, Cursed Fishing, and Captain Tokka

Cursed Surges are rotating world events that erupt across The Coiled Isle, tasking players with a small objective before summoning a mini boss. Defeating these surges rewards Adventurer-level gear and crests, while also infusing the surrounding land and water with energy that enables Cursed Fishing.

This fishing system is deeply tied to the Captain Tokka friendship reputation. As your reputation grows, you will unlock access to profession recipes, a mount, decor, transmog, and The Coiled Huntress, a best-in-slot fishing pole that grants underwater breathing and swim speed throughout the Midnight zones.

The Coiled Isle Rares and Treasures

Between events and instances, The Coiled Isle still offers plenty to do. Hunt down Skyriding Glyphs and hidden treasures, take on rares for a chance at two rare mounts, and piece together the island's history through scattered lore objects.

The Coiled Isle Rares

The Coiled Isle is home to twelve rare enemies scattered across its mist-shrouded landscape. Defeating all twelve will earn you the Coiled to Strike achievement, which rewards the Amani Forge decor item for your collection.

Each rare has a chance to drop Item Level 266 Adventurer 1/6 Warbound until equipped gear, making them a solid early target for gearing up fresh characters. Additionally, any of these rares has a small chance to drop one of two rare mounts: the Ruby Writhe or the Topaz Skyfang.

The Coiled Isle Treasures

Hidden caches and forgotten relics are scattered across every corner of The Coiled Isle. Discovering all of them will earn you the Treasures of the Coiled Isle achievement, along with a fittingly venomous mount reward: the Auriferous Venomfang. These treasures are well worth seeking out for completionists and collectors alike.

To learn in detail how to complete the treasure hunt achievement, check out our dedicated Treasures of the Coiled Isle article.

The Coiled Isle Lore Objects

Scattered across The Coiled Isle are ten lore objects that shed light on the island's dark and tangled history. Collecting all of them will earn you the Student of Hissstory achievement, along with the Cursed Badge of the Soulcoilers toy. This intriguing trinket transforms you into a snake-like humanoid and, notably, does not break while in combat.

The Coiled Isle Skyriding Glyphs

The Coiled Isle features eleven Skyriding Glyphs hidden across its rocky cliffs and dense jungle canopy. Collecting all of them will reward you with The Coiled Isles Glyph Hunter achievement. Beyond the achievement itself, there are no additional rewards for tracking them all down, but they offer a convenient way to fine-tune your Skyriding talents while exploring the island.

The Coiled Isle Achievements

The Coiled Isle offers a solid selection of achievements for completionists, ranging from exploration and collections to story-driven feats. At the top of the list sits Ula'tek Uncoiled, a meta-achievement that ties together the zone's most significant activities, including its collections, lore, story, and quest objectives. Earning it will require a thorough investment in everything the island has to offer.

Ula'tek Uncoiled Meta-Achievement

The Ula'tek Uncoiled meta-achievement requires completing four specific achievements tied to the main content of The Coiled Isle. These are:

Finishing all four will complete the meta-achievement and mark you as a true champion of The Coiled Isle.

The Coiled Isle Additional Achievements

Beyond the aforementioned meta-achievement, players can expand their collection with seven more achievements dedicated to collectibles and diving deep into the lore, main storyline, and quests of the zone. The full list of these achievements is laid out before you:

Together, these achievements offer plenty of incentive to linger on the island long after the campaign has concluded.

We hope our guide helps you navigate the new Midnight zone with confidence. Good luck in your adventures, and don't forget to return to our platform for more insightful information.
