Patch 12.1 opens the way to the Vaults of Atal'Utek — a sprawling underground zone beneath The Coiled Isle, packed with rotating public events, a new talent tree-like system, and plenty of rewards to chase. In the guide below, you'll find everything you need to know about the Vaults, from Temple Assaults to the Altar of Corrosion and beyond.
The Vaults of Atal'Utek are a sprawling subterranean subzone of The Coiled Isle, introduced as part of Patch 12.1.0. Where the surface of the isle leans into exploration, treasure hunting, and world events, the Vaults are built around combat and endgame-focused content. Your time here is spent pushing back the Children of Ula'tek through a variety of rotating Public Events, all while unearthing the darker secrets of the serpent god's influence.
While there are still plenty of achievements, mounts, cosmetics, and housing decor to collect, the true draw of the Vaults — aside from housing the entrances to The Venomous Abyss raid and the Altar of Fangs dungeon — is the Corrosive Coin currency. These coins are gathered from activities throughout the Vaults and can be used at the Altar of Corrosion, a new talent tree-like system that empowers you across the entire Coiled Isle. Once you recover the Codex of the Soul Coilers, you can even extend Ula'tek's venomous influence into all open-world content, including Delves.
Alchemists will also find a new recipe for the Liquid Luster potion, and players of every profession can further their knowledge by earning reputation with Zul'jarra's Forces, making the Vaults a worthwhile destination regardless of your preferred playstyle.
Access to the Vaults of Atal'Utek is granted early in the 12.1 campaign, right after completing the quest What Lies Beyond the Fog. Three entrances are located on the western end of The Coiled Isle, each marked by a distinctive gate:
While flying mounts cannot be used once inside, every tunnel leading into the Vaults grants you The Serpent's Path buff, dramatically increasing your ground mount speed until you have fully transitioned into the zone proper.
Once inside, seek out Warleader Abdumati or Mok'sa the Stone to pick up the introductory quest Into the Vaults of Atal'Utek. This quest and its follow-ups will quickly introduce you to the zone's flightmasters and key points of interest. From that point on, all major activities are unlocked account-wide for your entire Warband, allowing you to jump straight into the fight against the Children of Ula'tek without delay.
Unlike the surface of The Coiled Isle, the Vaults of Atal'Utek do not feature traditional treasures or rare spawns — with one notable exception. Instead, the caverns are dotted with useful items, largely concentrated around the Amani Foothold and Northern Encampment. These objects can aid in navigation, offer protection against the serpentine foes that prowl the tunnels, or serve as smaller loot containers holding standard Midnight world content rewards. Below are some noteworthy examples and their effects.
Spiritwing Gusts are your primary tool for navigating the Vaults of Atal'Utek, which are otherwise overrun by the Children of Ula'tek. Running into a gust propels you forward or upward and grants Spiritfall, letting you glide safely back down. With no flying mounts allowed inside, these gusts are essential for scaling the caverns' many ledges and escaping venomous pits. Spiritwing Feathers offers the same effect on demand for 30 seconds, and certain Altar of Corrosion talents will reveal even more Gusts and Feathers throughout the zone.
The Vaults are scattered with relics that grant helpful temporary buffs. Key examples include:
Two repeatable treasure spawns appear throughout the Vaults: the Soulcoiler's Cache and Soulcoiler's Trove. Both commonly contain Coffer Key Shards and Voidlight Marl, with a chance at Corrosive Coins, weekly profession knowledge, Adventurer-level BoEs, or Potions of Venomous Return. Troves are often perched on high ledges, so be ready to use Spiritwing Gusts or Feathers to reach them.
Shortly after completing Into the Vaults of Atal'Utek, you will receive the quest Vaults of Atal'Utek: A Toxic Tour, which introduces you to the Vaults' core gameplay loop: Temple Assaults. These public events are always active in the zone and consist of three interconnected tiers:
Each week, you will be asked to complete the Purging the Vaults quest by participating in a successful run of each activity type. Smaller daily quests, such as From Whence it Came, Patrolling the Temple, or Decisive Incursions, offer additional objectives for finishing individual tasks.
Temple Patrols are the lightest form of engagement in the Vaults. These are quick, single-objective tasks designed to be knocked out in a minute or two without assistance. Each patrol awards a small amount of gold and a Handful of Corrosive Coins, making them an efficient way to chip away at your weekly Purging the Vaults quest when you're short on time or simply passing through the area.
Up to three patrols are active at any given time, refreshing every ten minutes. Since some patrols activate automatically as you approach them, players who want to opt out can speak with Warleader Abdumati at the Amani Foothold to clear any active objectives.
Temple Strikes offer a noticeable step up in difficulty. Each strike requires you to complete two related objectives, which typically involve defeating Elite enemies. While solo players can still manage these with a solid build, the added durability of the mobs means bringing a friend or two will make the process considerably smoother.
For the extra effort, you'll be rewarded with a Corroded Pouch, which contains 75 Corrosive Coins and 5 Veteran Mistcrests. There's also a chance to find Voidlight Marl or even a piece of Veteran-track gear inside. A single Temple Strike remains active at all times, except when a Temple Incursion is currently underway.
Temple Incursions represent the most demanding of the standard assault activities. These multi-stage events feature a chain of objectives that must be completed within a strict ten-minute window. Because of the tight timer, tackling an Incursion solo is generally not feasible; you'll want to form a party to clear the objectives in time.
Given the difficulty, the rewards are fittingly substantial. Completing an incursion grants a Corroded Satchel, containing 175 Corrosive Coins, 10 Veteran Mistcrests, and a significantly higher chance at gear drops. Incursions don't run back-to-back: a new one begins 15 minutes after the previous event has concluded, replacing whatever Temple Strike was currently active.
Ancient Foes serve as the capstone of the Assault cycle, awakening immediately after a successful Temple Incursion. These are powerful enemies that must be brought down within another ten-minute window, demanding both coordination and burst damage from your group.
If you manage to defeat the Ancient Foe before time expires, you'll loot a Venom-Drenched Sack, which contains 200 Corrosive Coins, 10 Champion Mistcrests, and a guaranteed piece of Veteran-track gear. Additionally, the first Ancient Foe defeated each week will drop a Corrosive Soul and a Venom-Cursed Fragment, making it a priority target for character progression.
While exploring the Vaults of Atal'Utek, you'll eventually run into Er'inye — a spirit who studied venomous arts before things went wrong. Her questline starts with One Coin Too Many and wraps up with The Altar of Corrosion. Once that's done, you'll be able to interact with the Altar itself and start spending points in a brand-new talent tree. It's a separate system from your normal talents, and it only works inside the Vaults and on the Coiled Isle.
There's a lot to chase down here, including two mounts. The main achievement is Assault the Vault. It's a meta that requires the following:
Finishing Assault the Vault rewards the Venomous Coiler mount.
Pro Poison Patroller is the grind achievement. You need 250 Temple Patrols. That's going to take a while, but at least three patrols are up every ten minutes, so you can chip away at it over time. The reward is the Emerald Skyfang mount.
A few others worth noting:
We hope this guide helps you navigate the Vaults of Atal'Utek with confidence. Good luck down there, and don't forget to check our Coiled Isle guide for more information about patch 12.1 zones.
