Ochre Dreamtalon Mount Guide

Updated 12 Jan 2026 | Author: Invord | ~7 min

The Reins of the Ochre Dreamtalon is a guaranteed Emerald Dream mount earned through a time-gated quest chain that plays out like a small long-term project. Instead of chasing a rare drop, you nurture a scorched sprout through multiple growth phases and return every few days to complete the next short step, making progress steady and predictable.

Collectors value Ochre Dreamtalon for its distinct ochre-and-dream palette and the way it matches Emerald Dream visuals - natural, warm, and clean-looking alongside many druidic, nature, and “dream” transmog themes. It is also a classic check-in mount: each visit takes just a few minutes, but the overall unlock rewards consistency over time, so it fits perfectly into a routine alongside weekly resets, reputation goals, and other collectible grinds without feeling stressful or grind-heavy.

  • Added in patch: 10.2.0 "Guardians of the Dream"
  • Mount type: Ground
  • Source: Time-gated quest chain (Emerald Dream)
  • Requirements: Emerald Dream access
  • Estimated completion time: Minimum 23 days (waiting time between steps)

How to get Ochre Dreamtalon

Ochre Dreamtalon

The Ochre Dreamtalon is awarded at the end of a short quest chain with five time gates. You are not doing daily quests - you are waiting for growth timers to finish, then completing the next objective. In practice, the whole chain feels like a “check-in” mount: a few minutes of work, then several days of passive progress.

Time-gate breakdown (minimum):

  • After Quest 1: wait 5 days
  • After Quest 2: wait 5 days
  • During Quest 3: compost timer 72 hours (3 days)
  • After Quest 3 turn-in: wait 5 days
  • After Quest 4: wait 5 days

Step 1 - Unlocking the Emerald Dream

Before you can start the sprout quest chain, you must unlock access to the Emerald Dream on your character. Head to Valdrakken and find Shandris Feathermoon near the Seat of the Aspects.

NPC location: /way #2112 50.2 53.0 Shandris Feathermoon

Fire Season quest start

Pick up Fire Season and follow the short intro chain until Raise the Alarm brings you back to Valdrakken. After that, accept Call of the Dream, travel to the Emerald Dream entrance in Ohn'ahran Plains, and complete Emerald Welcome.

Once this is done, you unlock a permanent Emerald Dream portal in Valdrakken (account-wide portal unlock), which makes all future visits faster.

Step 2 - Find the Smoldering Sprout

Travel to the Emerald Dream and go just south of the Central Encampment. You are looking for a small scorched plant called the Smoldering Sprout.

Starting location: /way #2200 48.7 67.9 Smoldering Sprout

Important: dismount before interacting. Click the sprout to put out the flames, then interact again to clean it. After that, the sprout should offer the first quest.

Quest 1

Accept Some Water... and speak to the Herbalism trainer Professor Ash in the Central Encampment. He is on the eastern side, near the trade and general goods vendors.

NPC location: /way #2200 49.6 62.8 Professor Ash

Professor Ash location

Pick up the nearby water bucket (make sure you have at least 1 free bag slot), then fill it at the pools under the World Tree.
Fill location: /way #2200 51.11 65.70 Fill Bucket

Return to the sprout and water it via the new dialogue option. The sprout becomes a friendly NPC and gains a visible growth bar called Plant Phase Growth. This bar fills over time - your next step becomes available after 5 days.

Quest 2

After the first growth timer finishes, return to Professor Ash to pick up A Dash of Minerals.... Head to Haven Cascades and kill Fathomless Lurker to loot 5 Fish Bones.
Farm location: /way #2200 51.0 32.0 Haven Cascades

Tip: Fish Bones are not guaranteed per kill - an underwater mount (or any swimming speed tools) improves efficiency a lot.

Turn the quest in at the sprout (now a dewy sapling). A new growth bar begins - wait another 5 days.

Quest 3

When the next growth phase completes, pick up The Right Food... from the sapling and talk to Professor Ash again. He provides Ash's Recipes to Delight and Nourish Your Plant Pals, which outlines the ingredients you must gather.

You need:

Quick waypoints:

  • Saelienne: /way #2200 49.87 61.65
  • Turtle eggs: /way #2200 41.15 75.97
  • Lashers: /way #2200 56.46 55.18

Once you have everything, combine the items to create Combined Fertilizer Ingredients. Use the correct item in your bags to combine them - do not click the bananas unless you want to eat one by mistake.

Now comes the most “hands-off” part of the whole chain: the fertilizer needs to compost for 72 hours (3 days) in your inventory. Keep it in your bags and avoid deleting it while cleaning inventory.

Extra safety tip: if the composted item changes state while you are actively online, some players recommend logging out and back in before using it, just to avoid rare quest-credit issues.

After the compost timer is done, return to the sapling and pick the dialogue option "Spread the fertilizer underneath the plant.". Then choose any entertainment option (joke/poem) to finish the step. A new growth bar starts - wait another 5 days.

Quest 4

When the plant is ready again, pick up And a Pinch of Magic from Professor Ash. Travel to the Singing Fen area (east of Amirdrassil is a convenient reference point) and complete the “totem siphon” objective.
Objective location: /way #2200 63.0 52.0

Use the quest item to place the totem, then fight the flame-corrupted Roottender mobs nearby. The key is to bring enemies below 40% health near the totem so it can siphon their magical energy. Once done, return to the plant (now a thriving sapling) and turn in the quest.

This starts the final long growth phase - wait 5 more days.

Quest 5

After the last growth bar completes, pick up A Little Hope is Never Without Worth from Professor Ash and fly to the plant one last time. The sprout should now be fully transformed into a blooming plant.

Speak to Professor Ash near the plant to turn in the final quest and receive your Reins of the Ochre Dreamtalon. Learn it to permanently add the mount to your collection.

Useful Addons and Tools

This mount is more about remembering timers than difficult combat. The right small tools make it much easier to stay consistent and avoid missed growth windows.

  • TomTom: Paste /way coordinates, create arrows, and minimize time spent searching
  • HandyNotes: Great for zone navigation if you already use it for Dragonflight collectibles
  • Kaliel's Tracker (or any tracker addon): Keeps quest objectives compact and visible
  • In-game Calendar reminders: Set 5-day and 3-day alerts so you never lose momentum

Final Tips for a Smooth 23-Day Unlock

  • Keep 1-2 bag slots free: the early steps require picking up quest items (bucket/fertilizer)
  • Do not overthink the route: each step is short - consistency matters more than speed
  • Treat it like a weekly reset routine: check in every few days, then move on
  • Use flight points and the Valdrakken portal: once unlocked, travel becomes trivial
