Mythic+ Dungeon Portals Guide

Updated 30 Nov -0001 | Author: Kir | ~5 min

Time is money, even across the expanses of Azeroth. And Mythic+ dungeon portals are an excellent way to save time on regular flights to the entrances of coveted encounters, even though the dynamic flight system has made the process far more enjoyable. In this article, we'll tell you absolutely everything you need to know about Mythic+ Dungeon Portals and how to unlock them.

What Are Mythic+ Dungeon Portals and Why Unlock Them

Mythic+ Dungeon Portals are your personal portals that allow you to teleport directly to the entrance of the corresponding dungeon, saving you a tremendous amount of time. Unlike mage portals, you can't share this convenience with other players, but that by no means makes them any less useful.

When considering why you should be interested in adding Mythic+ Dungeon Portals to your collection, the following points stand out:

  • Instant Access: In just a few clicks, your character can appear at the dungeon you need (provided the portal has been unlocked through the Keystone achievement system).
  • Faster Group Summoning: You can join your teammate at the Meeting Stone in seconds to summon the rest of the group more quickly and start the dungeon run.
  • Farming Legacy Content: By unlocking portals to past dungeons available in the Mythic+ rotation, you can hunt for achievements, transmog, and mounts from the past with far greater convenience. For example, a portal to Kings' Rest saves you the flight from Zuldazar to the instance entrance.

As you can see, Mythic+ Dungeon Portals are well worth completing the seasonal achievement, which we'll discuss later.

How Do Mythic+ Teleport Spells Work

Once you've completed the necessary steps to unlock a teleport, it will appear in your Spellbook (default key P) — no items cluttering your bags, just quick access at any time. It's easy to find by its icon, which references the dungeon. All that's left for you to do is click the icon and teleport to the dungeon entrance.

What Happens to Portals When a New Season Starts

Regardless of the current season, your character should have access to all portals ever added to your collection. The seasonal Mythic+ rotation has no effect on this whatsoever and simply allows you to gain access to more and more dungeons. This is especially convenient when it comes to dungeons from the past that were never part of the Mythic+ system or were included before the portal system was introduced.

How to Unlock a Mythic+ Portal

For dungeon portals to appear in your Spellbook, you need to complete them within the Timer at Keystone level +10 or higher. Once you do, the new ability will automatically appear in your spellbook.

During the first season of Midnight, you can add portals to the following dungeons to your collection:

  • Magisters' Terrace
  • Maisara Caverns
  • Nexus-Point Xenas
  • Windrunner Spire
  • Algeth'ar Academy
  • Seat of the Triumvirate
  • Skyreach
  • Pit of Saron

The portals to Magisters' Terrace and Windrunner Spire may prove especially useful in the future — both dungeons have mounts with a low drop chance. It's quite likely that many players won't manage to obtain them before the end of the current season and will return for them later. Save yourself time on future farming by unlocking the portals now.

M+ Portal Troubleshooting: Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them

There are two main issues when a portal doesn't unlock. The first and simplest one is that the in-game reward process isn't the most visually intuitive. Fortunately, it's easily resolved, and if you completed the dungeon in time but don't see the portal, proceed as follows:

  • Check your Spellbook, not your bags — this is not an item. The portal with the dungeon's corresponding name and icon will be waiting for you in the General tab.
  • Make sure you're on the same character that completed the dungeon, as portals are not account-wide.
  • Recall whether you actually beat the Timer — this is a mandatory requirement.

In case you're struggling to conquer a dungeon at Keystone level +10, stick to these basic tips:

  • Defensives: Use them when you know heavy damage is coming your way shortly, not after the damage has already hit.
  • DPS Cooldowns: You don't necessarily have to save cooldowns for bosses — sometimes they're far more needed on trash packs.
  • Affixes: Don't ignore affixes under any circumstances; at least one person in the group should be diligently handling all conditions.
  • Stops: Interrupt dangerous casts from enemies to avoid unnecessary damage and allow your group to deal extra damage.
  • Talents: Use builds optimized for Mythic+, not raid setups.

Your attempt to conquer a +10 dungeon may unfortunately end in failure, resulting in your Keystone becoming depleted and losing one level. This might set you back slightly from your goal, but it's not critical: to get your +10 level back, you simply need to complete a dungeon at +9 within the Timer. After that, you can assemble a group once more to emerge victorious with a timed +10 dungeon and the portal to go with it.
