Kings' Rest Mythic+ Route Guide

Updated 30 Nov -0001 | Author: Kir | ~11 min

Kings' Rest originally shipped with the Battle of Azeroth expansion, and these days it occasionally finds its way back into the Mythic+ rotation. Normal and Heroic difficulties offer a glimpse of what the zone has in store, but Mythic+ has a habit of turning even the most familiar encounters into something far more lethal. Below, we'll walk you through the optimal Kings' Rest route, along with the trash packs and boss mechanics that demand your full attention.

Kings' Rest Mythic+ Route Overview

Kings' Rest throws four boss encounters at your group, with plenty of trash crammed in between. The clock gives you 33 minutes to complete the run if you want the best rewards, a Keystone upgrade, and a healthy bump to your Mythic+ score. Here's the route that will carry you through the dungeon without unnecessary headaches — even if you're running with a PUG.

Given the nature of this dungeon and the sheer volume of trash inside, we'll mostly focus on the packs you should skip rather than the ones you need to kill — let's save you some precious time:

  1. At the entrance, ignore the pack of 2x Animated Guardian.
  2. Pull the pack of 2x Animated Guardian and 8x Minion of Zul, then drag them into the next room with the spawning adds to burn everything down under Bloodlust.
  3. Kill the first boss and make your way to the second, slaughtering every single enemy in your path.
  4. After the second boss encounter, the approach is exactly the same.
  5. Same story after the third boss — in this dungeon, almost every mob counts toward your forces.
  6. Once you've killed the mini-boss before the final boss, you're clear to move on to the last encounter.

Now that the route is sorted, let's get into the details on the most dangerous enemies waiting for you inside.

The Golden Serpent Trash and Notable Abilities

Unlike many modern dungeons, Kings' Rest is refreshingly straightforward — no special conditions to unlock the first boss, no situational buffs to hunt down. Just plow through the trash on your way to the bosses, keeping its peculiarities in mind.

Trash Abilities
Minion of Zul These mobs collapse instantly once their Bound by Shadow shield is stripped away — bring purges if your group has access to them. If one fixates you, keep moving, because their melee attacks apply the Pit of Despair fear.
Animated Guardian Cannot be crowd controlled. Healers should expect heavy group damage from Heavy Slams, particularly after the mob drops below 50% health and activates Released Inhibitors. Hug the mob so you can sidestep the random target Suppression Slam frontal without trouble.
Umbral Warrior Tanks need to be ready for the instant-cast Shadow Slash that comes out at irregular intervals.
Risen Hexer Hex Volley needs to be kicked on every single cast. Shadowfrost Bolt flies at random players — use spare interrupts on it, and if one slips through, clean it up with a Magic dispel or freedom effect.
Shadow-Borne Champion Cannot be crowd controlled. Soothe the Ancestral Fury enrage if your group has that option. Shadow Whirlwind deals AoE damage — stay out of the circles and pop a defensive if your health isn't full. Vigilant Defense points a shield at a random player; reposition behind the mob when this happens.

The Golden Serpent Boss Tactics

The boss emerges from the well after a special object in the room is activated—if you're not planning to start the fight immediately, stay well away from it. Here are the key tactical nuances you need to keep in mind:

  • Spit Gold marks 2 random players — use a defensive if you need to, and try to place the puddles near existing ones since they turn into Animated Gold when Lucre's Call is cast. Burn these blobs down quickly, using slows and CCs to stop them from reaching the boss and empowering it.
  • Healers should plan ahead for the Serpentine Gust channel — coordinate group defensives or healing cooldowns to keep everyone standing.
  • Tail Thrash hits the tank, but it's not a serious threat on its own.

Mchimba the Embalmer Trash and Notable Abilities

Once the Golden Serpent is dead, your group will need to fight through a gauntlet of troll Kings and Queens. The order they engage you in is random.

Trash Abilities
King Rahu'ai Cannot be crowd controlled. Healers should watch for the chaining damage from Forked Lightning. Get out of the Overload AoE the moment it appears.
Guard Captain Atu Strip the Captain's Bulwark buff off other enemies with a purge, or delay the cast with CCs.
Seneschal M'bara Unholy Mending is a must-kick on every cast — if one gets through, purge it right away.
King Timalji Cannot be crowd controlled and splits health with Queen Wasi. Erupting Slam targets a random player — move away from your allies so you don't cleave them. If you're fixated by Bladestorm, kite the boss.
Queen Wasi Cannot be crowd controlled and splits health with King Timalji. Bind Soul needs to be interrupted every time. Throw spare interrupts at the random target Soul Bolt.
Queen Patlaa Cannot be crowd controlled. Watch out for the random target damage from Shoot. Stay out of the puddles created by Shadow Volley. The Serpent Strike DoT lands on a random player — remove it with a Poison dispel or break it with a freedom effect. Bestial Berserk enrages both the boss and her raptor — use soothes if you have them.
Skeletal Hunting Raptor Cannot be crowd controlled. Hunting Leap fires a frontal through a random player — be ready to dodge out of the way.
King A'akul Cannot be crowd controlled. Mortal Bleed hits the tank — use a defensive or bleed cleanse if available. Blood Drain deals damage to any player currently bleeding and heals the boss — be ready for this extra pressure.
Bloodsworn Assassin Sudden Rupture debuffs a random player — use defensives or bleed cleanses, especially right before King A'akul's Blood Drain.

After the gauntlet, you'll push toward Mchimba's room, where more new enemies are waiting.

Trash Abilities
Purification Construct Cannot be crowd controlled. Healers should be ready for the Heavy Slams AoE damage, especially when it overlaps with the big Purification Strike hit.
Embalming Fluid Dodge the Embalming Fluid circles these mobs leave behind when they die — if someone gets hit, use a Poison dispel.
Interment Construct Cannot be crowd controlled. Healers need to anticipate the Heavy Slams AoE damage. Entomb traps a random player in one of the nearby sarcophagi — use the extra action button to shake it and break them out before Wail of Mourning deals too much damage.
Half-Finished Mummy Wretched Discharge is a must-kick on every cast.

Mchimba the Embalmer Boss Tactics

This boss fight will keep you on your toes — constant movement is the name of the game. Here's what you need to prepare for:

  • Drain Fluids channels into a random player — avoid the circles it creates, and if you're the target, break the channel with a defensive or combat drop. If the cast completes, healers need to push the target's health above 90% to remove the debuff.
  • Burn Corruption marks a random player — drop these fire puddles away from the boss and sarcophagi so they don't cut off your movement.
  • Ensure everyone is topped up before Awakening Slam, then cleave down the two Half-Finished Mummy adds that appear. Keep interrupts on their Wretched Discharge casts.
  • Entomb locks a random player into one of the four sarcophagi in the room. Spread out fast to find which one is shaking — if you don't free them in time, the boss will summon extra mummy adds.

The Council of Tribes Trash and Notable Abilities

In the rooms and corridors between the second and third boss encounters, you'll need to deal with absolutely every enemy. Given the cramped spaces, there was never really a chance to sneak past them anyway.

Trash Abilities
Spectral Shaman Switch to the Healing Tide Totem the moment it spawns and destroy it immediately. Watch out for the random target Frost Shock — remove the slow with a Magic dispel or freedom effect.
Phantom Hex Priest Hex should be interrupted or removed with a Curse dispel on every cast. Spectral Bolt targets a random player — use spare interrupts on it.
Royal Berserker Cannot be crowd controlled. Bloodthirsty Axe marks 2 random players — use defensives or bleed cleanses as needed. Stay out of the random target Violent Lunge AoE.
Ghostly Brute Cannot be crowd controlled. Soul Crush hits the tank — use a defensive for the damage amp it applies. Avoid the Seismic Upheaval AoE around the mob.
Honored Raptor Hunting Leap fires a frontal through a random player — be ready to dodge it or stop it with a CC.

The Council of Tribes Boss Tactics

While there are technically three bosses, you'll spend most of the fight squaring off against just one of them at a time. Below, you'll find the key tactical notes to help you navigate this encounter.

  • Severing Axe targets a random player — use a bleed cleanse or defensive if needed, otherwise healers should focus that target.
  • Avoid the initial AoE and spinning projectiles from Whirling Axes. We recommend you to tank Kula in the centre of the arena, because this ability keeps being cast from her body's location even after she's dead.
  • Group up in a safe spot for the Barrel Through soak, and remember that this still happens after Aka'ali is defeated.
  • Tanks need to watch out for the Debilitating Backhand knockback and debuff — either kite until it fades or use a major defensive to survive the damage amp.
  • Healers should brace for the group damage from Arc Lightning, which always chains off the tank. Everyone else should keep an eye out for Poison Nova and make sure it gets kicked.
  • When Call the Elements goes out, prioritise the Explosive Totem first, then the Thundering Totem, and at last the Torrent Totem.

Dazar, the First King Trash and Notable Abilities

As you make your way toward Dazar, a single mini boss blocks your path.

Trash Abilities
Shadow of Zul Cannot be crowd controlled. Shadow Barrage shots random players — use defensive abilities if this overlaps with other damage. Pool of Darkness creates 2 soaks — make sure players soak them quickly to prevent AoE hits. Dark Revelation marks 2 players — move away from your group to prevent the damage from the cleave attack, and purge or focus the appearing Minions of Zul that spawn from them.

Dazar, the First King Boss Tactics

So, the final battle. The first king will be actively aided by his loyal raptors — be ready for that. And here's even more information in our encounter cheat sheet:

  • On pull, the boss summons Reban. At 80% health, he gets empowered as he mounts T'zala, who he shares an Eternal Bond with. I recommend focusing Reban down first to remove the extra mechanics before the boss powers up.
  • Tanks need to be aware of their positioning — Reban uses Hunting Leap to jump to you and then does a frontal through your position that everyone should avoid. Reban also attempts to cast Deathly Roar, which should be interrupted at all times.
  • Aerial Smash targets two players — spread out and avoid cleaving allies. Once mounted, this becomes Quaking Leap, which now targets 4 players and deals additional AoE damage that the healer needs to prepare for. This effect can also be cancelled by combat drops if you're the furthest target, which is incredibly useful for reducing group damage.
  • Tanks should be ready with a defensive for the Blade Combo buster, which ramps up over the short channel. When mounted, T'zala will use Savage Maul just before the combo — be ready for this extra damage and use a bleed cleanse if needed.
  • Make sure healing is ready for the Gilded Destruction AoE. Tanks should also point the boss away from the group during this, as it causes the boss's melee swings to become frontals.
  • Throughout the fight, watch for the Impaling Spear circles. If you get hit, use defensives or bleed cleanses to reduce the damage.

Kings' Rest Bloodlust Usage

Finally, a quick word on where to spend your biggest group cooldown. Every run plays out a little differently, and you shouldn't treat this as gospel. But in most cases, it'll help you pick the right moment to hit that button and spare your group a world of pain. For Kings' Rest, the best times to use Bloodlust or Heroism are:

  1. The first big pull inside the dungeon.
  2. The second boss.
  3. The final boss.

This kind of timing lets you push through the nastiest spikes your Mythic+ run can throw at you.
