Modern Warfare 4 launched with 33 weapons across nine classes, from the Han 86 assault rifle every player starts with to the Signal 50 anti-materiel rifle at level 50. Nine of them are ready the moment Create-a-Class opens at level 4, and the rest unlock as you level up to 55. Every firearm except the launchers also has an Apex attachment, a late-game reward that changes how the gun works: the M4 becomes a 50-round 5.7mm rifle, the Oden turns into a semi-auto sniper, and the Striga goes akimbo. Below you'll find every weapon with its unlock level and max level, all 28 Apex attachments, how the Gunsmith works and what Season 1 may add.
The table lists every launch weapon with the player level that unlocks it and its max weapon level, which is how many levels it takes to unlock all its attachments and Military camos. Weapons marked as level 4 are available as soon as Create-a-Class opens. A few community trackers still show max levels from the beta; the values below are the launch numbers from Infinity Ward.

Apex attachments are the final reward for leveling a weapon to its max level. Each of the 28 firearms outside the launcher class has exactly one, and it goes in its own Apex slot, so it doesn't take up one of your five regular attachment slots. Most Apex attachments change how the gun plays rather than tweaking stats: conversions, alternate fire modes and built-in gadgets. In exchange, many of them block certain regular slots, such as the barrel or optic.
You can preview a weapon's Apex attachment before you unlock it at the end of its Progression tab in the Gunsmith. Weapon Prestige keeps your Apex attachment unlocked. In DMZ, the Apex slot costs no DMZ Cash once the weapon is fully leveled.
| Weapon | Apex attachment | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Han 86 | Han X20 Skybreaker | Targeting optic and a 20mm airburst launcher that bursts at a set distance |
| M4 | M4 Hurricane | Top-loading 5.7mm conversion with a 50-round magazine and very low recoil |
| Hyeon Burst | Hyeon Hyperburst | A very fast 3-round burst, then slower full-auto |
| Patriot XMR | Patriot XMR Volt | Underbarrel launcher firing stun darts |
| Kastov 762 | Kastov ARC | Barrel with an RF pulse that disables infantry, electronics and vehicles |
| Oden | Oden Sentinel | Converts it into a semi-auto sniper with a bipod, suppressor and scope |
| Axion | Axion Reaver | Hipfire build with a chainsaw-style grip and canted aim |
| Cronen Squall | Cronen Maelstrom | Underbarrel missile you steer while aiming |
| ISO Nightshade | ISO Trace | Rounds tag the targets you hit so the optic tracks them |
| VEL 46 | VEL 46 Snap | Sling for faster weapon swaps |
| WZ.55 Striga | Striga Rampage | Akimbo |
| PPSh-41 | PPSh-41 Ember | Underbarrel incendiary that leaves lingering fire |
| X-58 Nyx | X-58 Void | Subsonic rounds that hide skulls and hit indicators |
| Rezi 12 | Rezi 12 Enforcer | Pump-action conversion with explosive slugs |
| Warlord | Warlord Lumen | Strobe that blinds enemies when you aim, then recharges |
| FiNN LMG | FiNN Adverse | Uncapped fire rate that overheats into semi-auto |

The Axion's attachment appears as Clearcut in Infinity Ward's launch blog but as Reaver in game.
The beta had two extra Apex attachments, the Hyeon Auto full-auto conversion and the Kastov 545 conversion. They were early seasonal event rewards and aren't in the launch game. Infinity Ward says they will return soon, and Season 1 events award Apex attachments.
Gunfight uses random loadouts, and many of its rounds hand out weapons with an Apex attachment already equipped. It's a quick way to see which ones are worth the grind before you level a gun to max.
Every firearm has five attachment slots plus the Apex slot. Attachments cover optics, muzzles, barrels, underbarrels, magazines, rear grips, stocks, lasers and ammunition, with extra slots such as triggers or cylinders on some guns. Launchers and the knife only take cosmetics. A few systems change how you build and level weapons this year:
Our MW4 camo guide explains how weapon levels feed into the camo grind. If you'd rather not level 33 guns yourself, our MW4 weapon leveling service can max the ones you choose.
MW4 launched with the time to kill from the second beta weekend, which players preferred. SMGs got stronger at close and mid range, and one-shot weapons were toned down: the Oris 8.6 now one-shots only to the upper body and head. Infinity Ward has said more tuning is coming soon after launch.
In the first days of multiplayer, the most used weapons were the Han 86, the VEL 46 and the M4, followed by the ISO Nightshade and the KG-7 Vulcan. The Han 86 leads partly because it is the only assault rifle until the M4 unlocks at level 14. The meta usually settles a week or two after launch, so treat early pick rates as a snapshot.
The Vault Edition adds five signature weapon blueprints. The four firearms come with attachments and their Apex attachment already on the blueprint:
| Weapon | Blueprint | Apex on the blueprint |
|---|---|---|
| Kastov 762 | Voltspine | Kastov ARC |
| ISO Nightshade | La Sombra Venenosa | ISO Trace |
| Rezi 12 | Shattered Code | Rezi 12 Enforcer |
| Oris 8.6 | Volt-Edge | Oris 8.6 Razor |
| Combat Knife | Sombra Besada | None, cosmetic only |
In DMZ, each blueprint can be built once for free from the Gunsmith, then at a discount. The blueprints reach Warzone in Season 1.
Season 1 starts on November 6, and Infinity Ward hasn't announced its weapons yet. An unnamed sixth SMG appears in an official DMZ video, and fans think it is based on the FMG-9 or the Magpul FDC-9, but none of this is confirmed. We will add new weapons to this list as soon as they are announced.
These guides cover what to do with your weapons next.
These are the questions players ask most about MW4 weapons.

Level the weapon to its max level. The Apex attachment is the last reward on its progression track.
No. Only the 28 firearms outside the launcher class have one.
No. Each weapon has a single Apex slot and one Apex attachment.
Not at launch. The SMG class has five weapons and the closest to an MP5 role is the ISO Nightshade.
Yes, the Warlord. The Rezi 12 also becomes a pump-action with its Apex attachment.
They were beta event attachments and are expected to return through events.
