Platinum is the second Completionist camo in Modern Warfare 4 and the first one that forces you to play a whole weapon class rather than one favorite gun. It opens on a weapon only after every weapon in its class has Gold, and each class has its own challenge, from 50 headshots with assault rifles to prone kills with snipers. The game also corrected several camo requirements in the launch patch, and a few launch-week guides still show old numbers, such as 125 shotgun hipfire kills instead of 50. Below you'll find the exact Platinum challenge for every class in multiplayer and DMZ, tips for each one, and the order that gets you your first Platinum fastest.
Platinum is earned on each weapon separately, in two steps:
You can finish a Platinum challenge in multiplayer, in DMZ or with a mix of both, and the progress adds up. DMZ versions need more kills because AI soldiers count there.
The table lists each class's Platinum challenge as it appears in game after the launch patch.
| Class | Golds needed | Multiplayer challenge | DMZ challenge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assault rifles | 8 | 50 headshots against players | 100 headshots |
| SMGs | 5 | 25 player kills from behind | 75 kills from behind |
| Shotguns | 2 | 50 hipfire kills against players | Not confirmed yet |
| LMGs | 3 | 3 player kills without dying, 15 times | 3 kills without taking damage, 50 times |
| Marksman rifles | 3 | 75 player kills while prone | 150 kills while prone |
| Sniper rifles | 3 | 75 player kills while prone | 150 kills while prone |
| Pistols | 4 | 20 player kills from behind | 75 kills from behind |
| Launchers | 4 | 2 player kills without taking damage, 15 times | 2 kills without taking damage, 50 times |
| Melee | 1 | 3 kills without dying, 15 times | 3 kills without taking damage, 50 times |
The shotgun challenge is 50 hipfire kills in multiplayer, as the in-game screen above shows. Several launch-week lists still say 125, a number from before the patch.
Because Platinum needs Gold on every gun in the class, small classes get you there fastest. Shotguns need only two Golds, and snipers, marksman rifles and LMGs need three each. Assault rifles, with eight weapons, take the longest. Finish one class completely before you start the next: one finished class gives you a Platinum camo far sooner than five half-done classes.
The melee class has only the knife, so its Gold is also its whole class, but its challenges are some of the hardest in the game. Launchers are the slowest to level, with max levels in the 40s, so level them in DMZ alongside other work.
Each class needs a different approach. These tips come from players who finished the first Platinums in launch week.
Play core modes rather than Hardcore. In Hardcore, body shots kill so fast that you rarely land the headshot. A precise build with a good optic and low recoil helps more than raw damage.
Ground War is the best mode. Place a Tactical Insertion near the enemy spawn and flank with a suppressor, Ghost and Dead Silence, so players don't see you on the radar or hear you coming. Avoid flipping the spawns, or the enemy starts coming from your side.
Small maps like Transit 213 keep fights inside shotgun range. A laser attachment matters most: your hipfire bullets go where the laser points.
Hold a strong position in an objective mode and stop the streak before you take risks. LMG players can also switch to DMZ, where the challenge asks for kills without taking damage on AI, which is easier to control with a suppressor in a low-threat zone. For the knife, smoke grenades on the Hardpoint and a Trophy System keep you alive long enough.
Level the weapon to max before you start, so you have the best optic and an extended magazine. Then play large maps from a prone position with a long sightline, such as the ones on Sentry or in Ground War.
Shoot from cover and high ground. The RPG-8 can ricochet off flat ground at close range, so keep your distance. Scavenger doesn't refill launcher ammo, so bring a Munitions Box. If you'd rather skip a hard class, our MW4 camo boost can unlock Platinum on the weapons you choose.
Once all 33 weapons have Platinum, every weapon opens Harmonic Break, the third Completionist camo, with a new challenge per class. 33 Harmonic Breaks then unlock Divergence and the Mastery camos. The full ladder is in our MW4 camo guide.
These guides cover the steps before and after Platinum.
These are the questions players ask most about Platinum.
Get Gold on every weapon in a class, then finish that class's Platinum challenge on each weapon, for example 50 headshots with each assault rifle.
Per weapon. Every weapon in a class has the same challenge, but each has to complete it.
50 hipfire kills against players in multiplayer. Older lists that say 125 are out of date.
Yes, wholly or partly. DMZ versions need more kills, since AI counts there.
Shotguns, because the class needs only two Golds and hipfire kills come quickly on small maps.
