Corrosive Powers are Season 2's take on outdoor player power: poison-flavored effects you attach to your belt and bracers, live across the Coiled Isle, the rest of Midnight's outdoor zones, and Delves. They cost you nothing in dungeon or raid balance for one simple reason — they switch off the moment you zone into instanced content. Fuel comes from Corrosive Souls. You spend them at the Altar of Corrosion.
There are twelve powers, you unlock them in whatever order you want, and the collection is account-wide, so every alt inherits it. The depth hides in the poison engine underneath: half the list pays out more when a target is Poisoned, and one power exists purely to Poison you on command. Get the pairings right and a belt-and-bracers slot most players never think about turns into a real edge for farming and Delves.
Corrosive Powers sit somewhere between an enchant and a borrowed-power system. You apply a Corrosive Soul to a belt or bracer, which turns the item "Corroded" and grants it one of the twelve poison-themed effects. The effect works as a cantrip. It doesn't replace your enchant or your sockets, so nothing you already gemmed or enchanted is lost.
Two rules define the whole system. Corrosive Powers are active only in Midnight outdoor zones and Delves — never in dungeons or raids. And they are temporary: the entire system, souls and powers alike, retires when Midnight Season 2 ends. Blizzard built it that way on purpose, keeping a seasonal power spike for world content and Delves out of Mythic+ and raid tuning, so there's no pressure to farm it for raid night.
Progression is split in a way worth understanding up front. Unlocking a power is account-wide: earn it once and every character on your account owns it. Activating powers is per character, saved to each toon's own loadout. You start with a single active power. Once you have unlocked eight of the twelve, a second active slot opens, and running two at once is where the combos open up.
If you played The War Within, the closest design cousin is the Corrupted Powers from Horrific Visions Revisited, a pool of strong, swingy effects for a specific content type rather than a universal upgrade. The Ophidian Maw snake proc and the Gorgoneion Gaze petrify have that same "did that just happen" flavor.
Access starts with a short questline, and there are two ways to trigger it. The first is a mysterious item that can drop from any outdoor activity that awards Corrosive Souls — kill rares, run events, and it will show up eventually. The second is deterministic: reach Delve Journey Rank 2 and the questline is handed to you, guaranteed, no RNG involved.
Finishing the chain opens the Altar of Corrosion and its choice interface. From there you spend Corrosive Souls to unlock powers in any order you like — no forced tree, no weekly gate on which power comes next. Pick the effects that match how you actually play, set your active loadout, and swap it per character whenever your plans change.
Corrosive Souls are the only currency the system uses, and they come from the season's outdoor loop rather than from one grindable node. The Coiled Isle is the primary source, with a few extra taps outside it. One caveat from the PTR: souls are intentionally less common than they were in the first test build, so treat each one as a real decision rather than a throwaway roll.
| Source | Details |
|---|---|
| Vaults of Atal'Utek | Coiled Isle group content and rotating public events that build toward a boss fight. |
| Curse Surges | Rare elites that spawn at five rotating spots across the Coiled Isle. |
| Lair: Nymrissa | The Tidebound Grotto lair boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller. |
| Prey: Ral'Kala | The new Prey hunt target added on the Coiled Isle. |
| Weekly Prey hunts | Your standard weekly Prey clears feed souls on top of their usual rewards. |
| Bountiful Delves | Bountiful chests once the Season 2 Delve track is live. |
Because unlocks are account-wide, this is a grind you only do once per collection — not once per alt. Spend early souls toward the two powers that form your main combo, then keep unlocking until you hit eight and open that second active slot.
Farming souls means running a lot of Midnight Delves and Coiled Isle events. If you'd rather skip the outdoor grind and jump straight to a stocked collection, our carries handle the legwork.
Every power is built on Nature damage and poison, and most of them either apply a poison or reward you for hitting something already poisoned. Below is the full list with exact effects, grouped by what each one is for. All twelve are unlockable in any order, so read the table as a shopping list, not a tier order.
| Power | Role | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Ophidian Maw | Offense | Damaging an enemy has a chance to call a giant snake that erupts and gnashes the target's location, dealing Nature damage split between nearby enemies. Any Poisoned non-boss creature damaged below 20% health is executed outright. |
| Plague of Corrosion | Offense | Chance in combat to apply a stacking Poison to all nearby enemies, dealing Nature damage every 2 sec for 1 min. When an afflicted enemy dies, the Poison and its remaining duration jump to a new target. |
| Ula'tek's Gift | Offense | Your harmful abilities can afflict the target with 5 stacks of the Gift, dealing Nature damage per stack every 5 sec for 1 min. While you are Poisoned, each application adds 5 more. At 20 stacks it Corrodes, dumping the rest of its damage at once. |
| Miasma Geyser | Offense | Chance in combat to stir a geyser under a nearby unit that erupts after 10 sec, dealing Nature damage split between enemies and healing every ally inside the area. Poisoned units take increased damage and healing. |
| Virulent Mucus | Defense | Entering combat wraps you in 5 layers of Mucus, each layer negating one instance of incoming damage that would exceed 5% of your max health. Damaging a Poisoned enemy has a very low chance to grant an extra layer. |
| Lithic Plumage | Defense | Taking damage has a chance to fortify you, reducing incoming damage by 75% up to a cap. Each nearby Poisoned enemy raises that cap. |
| Gorgoneion Gaze | Defense | Drop below 50% health and every enemy within 10 yards is petrified for 10 sec, stunned and invulnerable. When they break free they are Poisoned, taking Nature damage each second and slowed 50% for 5 sec. 1 min cooldown. |
| Accursed Poison | Utility | Chance in combat to poison the strongest enemy for Nature damage every 1 sec over 1 min. The next time that target casts an interruptible ability, the poison triggers, interrupting it instantly before removing itself. |
| Viperine Grasp | Utility | Your harmful abilities have a chance to pull up to 2 nearby enemies onto your current target, dealing Nature damage. Up to 3 nearby Poisoned enemies are dragged in on top of that. |
| Mephitic Cloud | Group | Chance in combat to spread a cloud to nearby party members and enemies for 10 sec. Your allies' hits Poison their targets for Nature damage over 5 sec, but affected enemies' hits also heal whatever they strike. |
| Ouroboric Cycle | Stats | Chance in combat to begin a cycle: all Tertiary stats for 5 sec, then all Secondaries for 5 sec, then your Primary stat for 5 sec. A kill during the cycle triggers another loop; while you are Poisoned each step lasts 1 sec longer. |
| Insidious Venom | Stats | Chance in combat to Poison yourself, lowering all Secondary and Tertiary stats while greatly raising your Primary stat for 12 sec. |
The trick to this system is spotting the poison loop. Six of the twelve powers get better against a Poisoned target or while you are Poisoned yourself: Ophidian Maw's execute, Lithic Plumage's cap, Viperine Grasp's extra pulls, Miasma Geyser's bonus, Ula'tek's Gift's doubled stacks, and Ouroboric Cycle's longer steps. So the strongest two-slot loadouts pair a poison source with a poison payoff.
One power matters more than its plain effect suggests. Insidious Venom Poisons you, which is exactly the condition those "while you are Poisoned" clauses want. It is the enabler for any self-scaling build, even on a class that never applies a poison of its own.
Here are the loadouts worth building toward once your second slot is open:
One power to skip in group content: Mephitic Cloud. The ally-poison half is fine, but it also heals the enemies your group is beating on, which is the last thing you want in a crowded event. Solo, the healing rarely matters; in a zerg, it actively works against you.
Before you reach eight unlocks you only get one active slot, so don't overthink it — run the single power that matches your main activity. Plague of Corrosion if you're farming, Virulent Mucus if you're deep in Delves like Venomfall Deeps against Azta'rec. Prioritize your unlock order toward the pair you plan to run at eight.
No. They are active only in Midnight outdoor zones and Delves, and switch off completely in dungeons and raids. The system is built so it never affects Mythic+ or raid balance.
In Midnight outdoor zones (the Coiled Isle and the rest of the expansion's open world), plus Delves, including the Season 2 Nemesis Delve, Venomfall Deeps.
One at first. After you unlock eight of the twelve powers, a second active slot opens and you can run two at the same time.
Belt and bracers. A Corrosive Soul applies the effect as a cantrip, so it does not replace your enchants or sockets on those pieces.
The unlocks are account-wide, so every character shares the collection. The active loadout, though, is saved per character, so each alt sets its own picks.
No. The whole system is temporary and lasts only through Midnight Season 2. Corrosive Souls and powers alike retire when the season ends.
