How to Level Up Fast as Shaman in Midnight

Updated 07 Jul 2026 | Author: Dmitro | ~10 min

Enhancement is the Shaman you roll when you want to wade into a pack with two weapons swinging and lightning arcing off every hit. It imbues its weapons for free, throws instant spells between melee strikes, and heals itself out of the same resource it kills with. For leveling through Midnight, that mix is a strong one: fast front-loaded AoE, real self-sustain, and enough mobility to string pulls together without ever sitting to drink.

The whole non-class half of the climb lives in our Midnight leveling guide: the zone route, dungeon pacing, and the checklist you run at fresh 90. This page owns the rest — the leveling build, the 80-to-90 talent path, the rotation, stats, race, and the consumables worth keeping on the bar. Run the two side by side and you hit 90 already playing your character the way its max-level self wants to be played.

Best Spec to Level Shaman in Midnight

Shaman brings three specs to Midnight, and two of them deal damage. Enhancement fights in melee; Elemental casts from range; Restoration heals. For raw solo speed Enhancement takes it on the back of its AoE, self-healing, and mobility, but it helps to know the trade before you lock in.

Why Enhancement

Enhancement clears packs about as fast as anything once it gets going. One Crash Lightning paints cleave onto your Stormstrike and Lava Lash, and your stacked Maelstrom Weapon dumps into an instant Chain Lightning that bounces the whole camp. Gather five mobs, open on them together, and they fall together.

The sustain is the other half, and it costs you nothing extra. Those same Maelstrom stacks feed an instant Healing Surge whenever a pull bites back, so you top off mid-fight instead of stopping. Add the class's mobility (Ghost Wolf between camps, Feral Spirit for the speed boost on top) and you spend far more time killing than walking.

Alternatives

The other two specs are fine, just built for other jobs. Elemental deals its damage from range, which keeps you safe from melee mechanics, but it kills slower per pull and it is squishier when something does close the gap. Restoration is the healer — slow at murdering the open world, yet it queues for dungeons instantly. If your whole plan is wall-to-wall instance spam, flipping to Restoration for the free queues can out-pace questing outright. For everything else in the open world, Enhancement is faster.

Best Race for Shaman

Shaman is locked to a shortlist of races on each faction, so the choice is narrow to begin with, and none of it moves your leveling speed much. Pick the look you like.

For the marginal edge: Horde leans Orc for Blood Fury, a flat on-demand burst that lines up perfectly with your cooldowns, with Troll's Berserking haste burst a close second. Alliance takes Dark Iron Dwarf for Fireblood, which clears effects and spikes a stat, or Draenei for the passive heal on Gift of the Naaru. Honestly, race is the last thing to stress over here.

Spec and race are the only calls a Shaman makes on its own. Everything past that is shared ground: which zones to clear at each level, when dungeon queues start to out-earn questing, how the 1-80 grind feeds into Midnight's new 80-90 content, and what to set up the moment 90 lands. We keep that whole route in one guide that stays current for every class, and it reads right alongside this page.

Midnight Leveling Guide (1-90)

Best Enhancement Leveling Talents in Midnight

Enhancement's leveling tree is forgiving, and nothing you pick is permanent. You respec anywhere out in the world as long as you are out of combat, so treat the build below as a starting point, not a contract. It comes in one package: the copy-paste string, the hero tree to commit to, and the exact talent to grab at each level from 80 to 90.

Hero Talents - Stormbringer

At level 71 you unlock Hero Talents. Take Stormbringer for leveling. It builds the whole tree around Tempest, a supercharged lightning nuke your Rolling Thunder stacks toward automatically, while Awakening Storms peppers nearby enemies with free lightning as you fight. More on-demand burst and more passive cleave is exactly what a solo leveler wants. The other tree, Totemic, is the stronger pick for organized groups.

Talent Order While Leveling 80-90

Every Midnight level from 81 to 90 hands over one talent point. Most of them pour into Storm Unleashed, the spec's new Apex Talent that turns Crash Lightning into a repeating, ground-electrifying cleave; the rest top up your class and hero rows. Take them in this order:

Before 80, prioritize the core rotation: grab Stormstrike and Elemental Assault so your builders feed Maelstrom Weapon hard, pick up Crash Lightning and its cleave nodes early so packs die together, then rush Doom Winds and Feral Spirit for the burst windows. The rest bends toward the imported build.

Enhancement War Mode Talents for Leveling

War Mode is worth running for the experience bonus alone, and it opens three PvP talent slots that pull weight even against ordinary mobs:

  • Shamanism cuts your Bloodlust cooldown down to a minute, so you can burst nearly every elite pull.
  • Burrow dives you underground to shrug off a bad pull and cleanse roots — a genuine panic button out questing.
  • Lightning Lasso locks down a dangerous caster and chips it for heavy damage while it hangs there helpless.

Enhancement Leveling Rotation

Your leveling rotation is a short list of buttons, and it plays almost the same on one mob as on a full camp. Keep your weapons imbued and Lightning Shield up — Instinctive Imbuements reapplies Windfury Weapon and Flametongue Weapon for you now, so it is a set-and-forget. Single target, top to bottom:

  1. Open with Flame Shock to plant the DoT, then Doom Winds on anything tough.
  2. Stormstrike on cooldown — your hardest hit and biggest Maelstrom builder.
  3. Lava Lash next, to keep the damage flowing and Flame Shock spreading.
  4. Spend 5+ stacks of Maelstrom Weapon on an instant Lightning Bolt.
  5. Crash Lightning on cooldown once you have it — in Midnight it buffs your damage on a single target too.
  6. Voltaic Blaze or another builder as filler when nothing else is up.

Packs run the same order with one change: lead with Crash Lightning so your next Stormstrike and Lava Lash cleave the whole group, dump Maelstrom into Chain Lightning instead of Lightning Bolt, and drop a Fire Nova off your Flame Shocks. For big or elite packs, stack Feral Spirit with Doom Winds to delete them, and pop Ascendance on the scary ones. When a pull turns dangerous, drop Earth Elemental as a pocket tank and instant-cast a Healing Surge to steady yourself.

Building out the full tree, gearing it up, and swinging through ten levels from 80 to 90 adds up to real hours at the keyboard. When that grind is the part you would rather hand off, Conquestcapped's WoW PowerLeveling can take the Shaman the rest of the way to 90.

Best Stats for Leveling Enhancement Shaman

Enhancement Shaman Leveling Talents and Build

While you level, raw item level beats perfect secondaries almost every time, so equip the higher-ilvl piece even when the stats look wrong. When two upgrades sit close, rank them like this:

Agility > Haste > Mastery > Critical Strike > Versatility

Agility is your primary stat, so any piece carrying more of it is a straight upgrade. Among secondaries, Haste leads on the Stormbringer build: faster swings mean more Maelstrom Weapon, more instant casts, and quicker cooldowns across the board. Mastery follows close behind, pumping the damage of your elemental and physical hits alike.

Best Consumables & Gear

Here is the Midnight consumable list worth keeping active on the grind from 80 to 90. Every one sells on the Auction House, so you stock up once and forget it:

Skip the weapon oils — your Windfury Weapon and Flametongue imbues already fill that slot, and they beat any oil you could buy. Hold the flask and combat potion for dungeons and elite pulls; the food is cheap enough to keep up around the clock.

Best Addons & Macros for Shaman

A tidy interface buys you more leveling time than almost any single talent. Enhancement juggles Maelstrom stacks, weapon procs, and mouseover swaps on the fly, so a couple of sharp macros and a light addon set keep you casting instead of hunting across your bars.

Macros

The first one to bind is a mouseover interrupt. A Wind Shear macro kicks a caster the instant you hover it, without dropping your current target or wasting a global to swap back. Nothing else you bind pays off this often, and your first dungeon makes it mandatory.

#showtooltip Wind Shear
/cast [@mouseover,harm,exists][@target] Wind Shear

Next is a one-button burst macro. It fires Feral Spirit, Doom Winds, and both trinkets at once, so every cooldown lands on the same pull instead of drifting apart. Keep it for elites, rares, and the dense packs where that burst decides the fight.

#showtooltip Feral Spirit
/cast Feral Spirit
/cast Doom Winds
/use 13
/use 14

The last one is a pulling tool. A mouseover Flame Shock tags a single mob from range and peels it off a pack without committing your melee, which keeps your pulls controlled when you thread through a crowded quest hub.

#showtooltip Flame Shock
/cast [@mouseover,harm,exists][@target] Flame Shock

Addons

No class-specific pack is needed to level Enhancement; the staples are the ones every leveler already runs. A quest helper to auto-handle turn-ins, a cooldown tracker so no burst window slips past, and the auction tools that keep your consumables stocked cover the essentials. Our general Midnight addon guide walks through the full set and the settings worth changing.

Shaman Leveling FAQ

Is Enhancement the best Shaman spec for leveling?

For most players, yes. Enhancement's cleave, self-healing, and mobility make it the fastest, safest way to grind through the open world. Elemental is the ranged alternative and Restoration wins on instant dungeon queues, but for solo questing Enhancement clears the ground quicker.

Enhancement or Elemental for leveling?

Enhancement in the open world, thanks to its melee AoE, constant self-healing, and better mobility. Elemental keeps you at range and out of melee mechanics, which is safer on a single tough target, but it kills slower per pull and folds faster when something reaches it. For pure leveling speed, Enhancement pulls ahead.

Do I still have to imbue my weapons every hour?

No. Instinctive Imbuements keeps Windfury Weapon and Flametongue Weapon applied on their own, so the old busywork is gone. Just keep Lightning Shield up and you are set.

When do Shaman Hero Talents unlock?

At level 71. Take Stormbringer for leveling, since its lightning procs and the on-demand Tempest nuke add burst and cleave right where you want them. Totemic is the stronger group tree, and you can respec to it for free once you are done leveling.
