Nazjatar Unlock Guide

Updated 03 Aug 2026 | Author: Kir | ~6 min

It might seem like everything interesting in modern World of Warcraft is crammed into the endgame. But make no mistake — that's a huge misconception. The zones and activities of the past hold a staggering amount of treasures. Nazjatar is no exception; the ruins of this ancient elven kingdom are a veritable goldmine for collectors, offering access to a host of achievements, pets, toys, and mounts. In this guide, we'll tell you everything you need to know about how to gain access to Nazjatar and all of its riches.

How to Unlock Nazjatar in World of Warcraft

To unlock Nazjatar, you need a character at level 50 or higher and the starting quest, Send the Fleet. This quest will automatically appear in your quest log, or you can pick it up directly on the ship, provided you have World Quests unlocked and possess the Heart of Azeroth. Immediately after that, you'll gain access to this coveted Battle for Azeroth zone and all its collectible rewards. In this guide, we'll break down everything you need to know about unlocking access to Nazjatar on your account in full detail.

Requirements for Unlocking Nazjatar

Before you can dive into the ancient elven ruins, make sure your character meets the following conditions. Most of the time, this is exactly where problems arise.

  • Character Level: You need a minimum of level 50 (this was level 120 before the level squish in Shadowlands).
  • Heart of Azeroth: The legendary necklace is a must. If you skipped obtaining it, head to Magni Bronzebeard in Silithus through the quest A Dying World.
  • World Quests Unlocked: You need "Friendly" reputation with the three main factions of your capital city. This is achieved by completing the quest Uniting Kul Tiras (Alliance) or Uniting Zandalar (Horde).
  • Character Boost: If you used a paid level boost, you will be locked out of Nazjatar and other BfA endgame content for 24 hours.

Does your account and character meet all the requirements? Let's move on to the zone unlock guide!

Nazjatar Unlock by Faction

To begin the process of unlocking access to Nazjatar, choose your faction below. Completing the chain takes about 15–25 minutes, and in both cases, the steps are very similar. However, just to be safe, we'll lay out the correct path for both Horde and Alliance.

Nazjatar Alliance Unlock Walkthrough

  • Step 1: The Wolf's Offensive and Send the Fleet. The quest should automatically pop up in your quest log upon hitting level 50. If it doesn't, check the Hero's Call Board in Stormwind or your Adventure Guide (Shift+J). Report to Genn Greymane on the ship in Boralus Harbor.
  • Step 2: Setting Sail. Speak with Harbormaster Cyrus Crestfall to set sail for Nazjatar. Watch the cinematic or skip it.
  • Step 3: Arrival in Nazjatar. You end up shipwrecked on the ocean floor. Follow the initial quests to establish your base, unlock the portal back to Boralus, and receive your first piece of Benthic Gear.

Nazjatar Horde Unlock Walkthrough

  • Step 1: The Warchief's Order and Send the Fleet. The quest automatically appears at level 50. If not, head to the ship The Banshee's Wail in the Port of Zuldazar and talk to Nathanos Blightcaller.
  • Step 2: Into the Abyss. Join Lor'themar Theron and Thalyssra on board. Prepare for a rough journey to the bottom of the ocean.
  • Step 3: Securing a Foothold. Follow the quest markers to rescue crew members, establish the Horde encampment, and open a portal to Dazar'alor. You'll also receive your first pieces of Benthic Gear.

Unlocking Nazjatar on Alternate Characters

If you've already completed the full introduction on your main character, you can skip the entire thing on your alt. To gain access to Nazjatar on your other character, follow these steps:

  • Pick up the starting quest Send the Fleet.
  • Board the ship and talk to the captain.
  • Choose the dialogue option: "I've heard this tale before..."
  • You will be instantly teleported straight to the camp in Nazjatar, skipping the entire scenario and battle.

Having alternate characters allows you to complete the tasks required for the A Farewell to Arms meta-achievement much faster.

Nazjatar Unlock Troubleshooting: Why Can't I Start the Quest?

If the quest required to access Nazjatar isn't appearing, try the following fixes. Choose the method based on your specific problem:

  • "The quest disappeared from my log." If you accidentally abandoned it, go straight to the ship: The Banshee's Wail (Horde) or the ship in Boralus (Alliance) and pick it up manually.
  • "There's no quest marker on the map!" Check your minimap settings. Right-click on your minimap and make sure the "Trivial Quests" option is enabled. Since you've outleveled the zone, the marker might be invisible.
  • "I haven't completed the War Campaign." You don't need to finish the entire campaign, but you must have established a foothold on enemy territory (the quests leading to Uniting Kul Tiras / Zandalar).
  • "The Heart of Azeroth is missing." Check your bank or Void Storage. Without the Heart of Azeroth equipped or in your bags, starting the Nazjatar introduction is impossible.

If none of these solutions help you, contact the game's developer support.

How to Return to Nazjatar

Once you've unlocked the Nazjatar zone, you can return at any time using these methods:

  • Portal Room: Find the portal to Nazjatar in Boralus or Zuldazar.
  • Hearthstone: There's no innkeeper here, but you can bind your Hearthstone to your faction's camp.
  • Dalaran Hearthstone: A handy travel trick: it will quickly whisk you away to portal hubs.

Choose your method based on your plans: if you need a one-off visit, the portal is more than enough. If you plan to farm the zone's activities regularly, you're better off binding your Hearthstone there.
