Mythic+ Crests Guide

Updated 30 Nov -0001 | Author: Kir | ~6 min

Starting with the Dragonflight expansion, players upgrade gear using a currency called Crests. These are divided into five types, covering everything from low-tier open-world drops to Mythic raid loot. In our Mythic+ Dawncrests guide, we'll share everything you need to know about farming this currency in dungeons and spending it on gear upgrades.

What Are Dawncrests?

Dawncrests is a Midnight version of the gear upgrade system which allows players to increase their item level and stats without hunting for new gear pieces. Crests come in several tiers, and you can earn higher-tier Crests by completing more challenging content like higher-level Mythic+ dungeons or raids. Players can use Crests currency at an upgrade vendor to improve equipment, and once you outgear a certain Crest type, you can often trade lower-tier Crests up for more powerful ones.

Why Crests Replaced Valor Points

In the past expansions, to upgrade gear you have to use two currencies together, Crests and Valorstones. However, developers listened to the audience's complaints about the difficulty of the system and removed Valorstones in Midnight. Now, gear upgrade depends only on the Dawncrests you obtain.

Taking into account the already huge number of various currencies in the game, it is truly great news.

The Five Dawncrest Types

Dawncrests in Midnight, like in the previous expansion, divided into five types. Depending on the type, you should head to a specific in-game activity to earn it. Let’s take a closer look:

Crests Type Source
Adventurer Dawncrest Repeatable open-world events, open-world treasures, Tier 4 Delves, Heroic dungeons, LFR.
Veteran Dawncrest Repeatable open-world events, Heroic dungeons, LFR, Trovehunter's Bounty Tiers 4-5, Tier 5-6 Delves.
Champion Dawncrest Weekly open-world events, Mythic+ dungeons from +2 to +3 Keystone levels, Normal raids, Tier 7-10 Delves, Trovehunter's Bounty Tiers 6-7.
Hero Dawncrest Heroic raids, Mythic+ dungeons from +4 to +8 Keystone levels, Trovehunter's Bounty Tiers 8+.
Myth Dawncrest Mythic raids, Mythic+ dungeons from +9 and above Keystone levels.

Sure, Adventurer Dawncrest will be your goal only in the early stage of the season. But all others will be valuable until it ends.

Complete M+ Crest Drop Table

In Mythic+ mode, starting from the +2 keys, you can earn Champion, Hero, and Myth Dawncrests. You can find them in the end-of-run chest, and their number will depend on key difficulty. The exact information waits for you in the table below.

Key Level Crests Type and Number
Mythic +2 12 Champion Dawncrest
Mythic +3 14 Champion Dawncrest
Mythic +4 10 Hero Dawncrest
Mythic +5 12 Hero Dawncrest
Mythic +6 14 Hero Dawncrest
Mythic +7 16 Hero Dawncrest
Mythic +8 18 Hero Dawncrest
Mythic +9 10 Myth Dawncrest
Mythic +10 12 Myth Dawncrest
Mythic +11 14 Myth Dawncrest
Mythic +12 16 Myth Dawncrest

It is important that +11 and +12 keys don’t offer players better gear pieces, only the bigger number of Crests.

How Timer Performance Affects Crest Drops

Timer Performance affects Crests drop only in one case: out-of-time runs. In that case you will get the reduced amount of currency, but still get some. No matter what time reserve you end run, the number of Crests won’t be higher.

How to Spend Dawncrests

There are two options to use your Dawncrests: upgrade your gear or exchange Crests of one tier into another. All these actions can be completed through two vendors in Silvermoon City. So, when you collect the required amount of the currency, go to the expansion capital.

Where to Upgrade Your Gear

Talking about vendors, let’s introduce them to you:

  • Cuzolth (/way 48.6, 61.8) can help you to upgrade your gear.
  • Vaskarn (/way 48.6, 61.8) is responsible for Crests exchange.
Mythic+ Crests

Both of them wait for you in the central part of the Silvermoon.

How Many Crests Does Each Upgrade Rank Cost?

All items no matter what tier can be upgraded up to 6 ranks. Every step costs 20 Crests, no matter if it is Champion Dawncrests or Hero, for example. So, to upgrade items from 1 to 6 rank you will need 120 Crests in total. But be aware that you often will loot items of higher than 1 rank.

The Crest Discount System

Yes, there is a discount system tied to the Crest currency. But it works only in two specific cases:

  • Same Slot Discount: If you have two items for one slot with a different item level, you can upgrade the item with lower item level to the level of a better item for free.
  • Warban Crest Discount: If you complete achievements from the list below, your other characters will get an opportunity to upgrade their items with a 50% discount.

Talking about achievements, all of them are tied for gearing and require you to reach the required overall item level:

In addition, these achievements unlock an opportunity to trade your lower quality Crests into higher.

When to Spend vs. When to Save Your Dawncrests

Always choose wisely on what item you spend your Crests. In most cases, they should match some requirements:

  • Slot Order: In most cases you will prefer firstly upgrade your Weapons - Trinkets - Tier Set Items - Other Items.
  • BiS Items: Try to spend your Crest on items you will change with a lower chance.
  • Upgrade Track: If you have an opportunity to obtain the alternative of higher tier for your current item, save your Crests for this moment.

It is always the right decision to save your Crests if you don’t think that upgrade can strongly empower your character.

The Best Crest Farming Strategies for Mythic+ Players

Depending on Crests level you need, there are various keys ranges most profitable for Mythic+ farm. While every key level rewards you with gear upgrading currency, some specific level maximise the number per run:

Spamming dungeons at this level is your best option to obtain coveted currency.

Speed-Farming +12s for Myth Crests

If you’re aiming for Myth Crests, your best strategy is to run the easiest seasonal dungeon at +12. In the current season, statistics point to two standout Mythic+ dungeons for quick clears:

  • Skyreach: highest timed completion rate at 87.3%.
  • Magister’s Terrace: close behind with 87.2%.

Keep in mind, this impressive data comes from +15 keys, so completing either dungeon at +12 should be even easier.
