TBC Classic Tempest Keep Guide

Updated 15 May 2026 | Author: Kir | ~6 min

Tempest Keep (often referred to as The Eye) is one of two raids introduced during Phase 2 of The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary. Considerably more straightforward than Serpentshrine Cavern, this instance gives the heroes of Azeroth the opportunity to obtain Tier 5 set pieces and other non-set gear starting at item level 128+. In this guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know before breaching Kael'thas's fortress — from boss encounters and strategies to detailed loot tables.

TBC Tempest Keep The Eye Overview

Tempest Keep: The Eye is a 25-player raid you can find in the Netherstorm region of Outland, serving as the stronghold of Kael'thas Sunstrider where players can obtain Tier 5 shoulder and chest tokens. The instance features four challenging encounters with the final boss being one of the most complex fights in the entire expansion, spanning five distinct phases. This raid is also famous for dropping the truly iconic Ashes of Al'ar mount, one of the most sought-after mounts in the game.

TBC The Eye Entrance

The entrance to The Eye can be found in the eastern reaches of Netherstorm at coordinates /way 73.5 63.7. If you'd prefer not to travel on foot, you can make use of the neutral Flight Master Harpax, located in Cosmowrench at /way 65.2 66.8.

Tempest Keep Entrance

Be aware that you should use a flying mount to get your character to the Eye entrance.

TBC The Eye Attunement

There is a specific attunement which allows you to get access to the second raid from the Phase 2 of the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary. To get The Tempest Key, you have to complete the following steps:

  1. Collect The Hand of Gul'dan / The Hand of Gul'dan quest in Shadowmoon Valley.
  2. Complete the questline which concludes with The Cipher of Damnation quest.
  3. Find Khadgar in Shattrath to get The Tempest Key quest.
  4. Now you have to deal with the final bosses of Heroic Shattered Halls, Steamvault, Arcatraz dungeons, and Magtheridon’s Lair raid in addition.
  5. When you complete all these encounters, you will get The Tempest Key.

TBC The Eye Boss List

The Eye is a linear raid with no optional bosses. While it features more encounters than either Gruul's Lair or Magtheridon's Lair, the instance remains quite compact. Below is a breakdown of the main bosses:

  1. Al'ar
  2. Void Reaver
  3. High Astromancer Solarian
  4. Kael'thas Sunstrider

Be aware that you can kill the bosses in different order.

TBC The Eye Tactics

While The Eye's bosses may not reach the complexity of later expansions, they have no problem punishing an unprepared raid. That's why we're covering the essential mechanics and proven strategies to make each encounter effortless. Quick tactics for quick clears!

Al'ar Tactics

  • During Phase 1, one tank should wait on the bottom platform for adds, others spread on the upper platform to tank Al'ar and avoid AoE. During Phase 2 tanks should swap on Melt Armor.
  • During Phase 1, healers should spread to cover both platforms. During Phase 2, just prioritize raid healing from the big amount of damage.
  • Ranged DPS should attack Al'ar during both phases. Melee DPS should kill adds on the bottom platform during Phase 1 and then switch to the boss during Phase 2.

Void Reaver Tactics

  • Tanks should be aware that Knockback reduces threat significantly, so their should maintain strict threat order (1st, 2nd, etc.).
  • Healers should watch for Pounding (AoE melee damage) and heal through it if melee stay in. In addition, avoid Arcane Orb to prevent damage and silence.
  • Ranged DPS should avoid Arcane Orbs while burning the boss.
  • Melee DPS should watch for Pounding while damaging the boss.

High Astromancer Solarian Tactics

  • High Astromancer Solarian has two phases: Humanoid Form (100%-20%) and Voidwalker Form (20%-0%).
  • During the Humanoid phase, tanks should tank-and-spank, with a tank ready to pick up adds every 50 seconds for AoE. During the Voidwalker phase, all you have to do is pure tank-and-spank.
  • Healers should watch for Wrath of the Astromancer (increased Arcane damage taken) and heal through Arcane Missiles.
  • DPS should kill immediately two Priest adds which appear 15 seconds after adds spawn. In addition, you should stack to easily move out when afflicted with Wrath.

Kael'thas Sunstrider Tactics

  • One tank each should be attached to Telonicus and Sanguinar. One tank should kite the Phoenix when Kael'thas enters. A Warlock (with Salvation off) should tank Capernian early.
  • Healers should stay at range during Capernian to avoid extra damage. Otherwise, keep the raid alive.
  • Ranged DPS should kill Capernian, Thaladred, and damage suspended Kael'thas. Melee should focus on Telonicus, Sanguinar, and Kael'thas.

TBC The Eye Loot Table

As one of the Phase 2 raids, The Eye serves as an excellent source of Tier 5 set tokens. These tokens can be exchanged for shoulders and chest pieces with an item level of 133. Additionally, all bosses drop non-set items at item level 128, while Kael'thas himself rewards players with loot at item level 138.
